On Sunday we didn’t have the usual large no. of volunteers at the beach clean up and on the way to the island the sky was overcast with light drizzle. However, our spirits were high and we knew we couldn’t disappoint the crew from Sudin Lingkungan Hidup Kepulauan Seribu that is waiting for us at Pulau Damar. Upon arrival at Pulau Damar we were shocked to see the amount of trash on the beach and floating on the seashores. After a short briefing it was off to work, armed with our reusable gloves, picks and yellow buckets. In 2 hours, with 19 volunteers and the crew from Sudin Lingkungan Hidup Kepulauan Seribu, we collected 1,005kg of trash. It surpassed our expectation knowing that we were a small group. .

While we know beach clean up is never a solution, but from everyone that has ever participated in our beach clean up, we hope it was a life changing experience. .
