Dia De Los Muertos, Day of the Dead 2024 in Huatulco, Celebration at the Cemetery
#diademuertos #mexico #dayofthedead
You’ve seen last week’s video… Days of preparation for today’s big event! November 2nd is the biggest celebration of this incredible tradition of Dia de los Muertos, meaning Day of the Dead.
We have set up our altars with marigold flowers and petals scattered to attracted the souls of the deceased family and friends, through the scent of these flowers, known as cempasúchil, as well as candles lit and offerings of foods, drinks and reminders of enjoyed past times - we remember and celebrate those who have passed.
Their souls are returning today, to spend time with the living, as memories are shared.
This is the day, when those who celebrate this tradition go to the cemetery, to clean the graves and decorate them with similar things as the altars. By evening, the cemetery becomes a sea of flickering candle light and orange cover of marigolds. Bands play lively tunes, as they pass from grave to grave, and people bring lawn chairs to sit and greet the souls of the departed.
This tradition, that has been embraced by so many non-Mexican people (including us), is such an incredibly positive, emotional and special celebration of remembrance and appreciation, one which we hope, you will enjoy through this week’s video.
Tapete de aserrin (sawdust carpet) are made, Dia de los Muertos headpieces worn, cempasúchil (marigold flowers) scattered, candles burned, music played and stories told. These are just a few of the highlights of this amazing celebration - Day of the Dead in Santa María Huatulco.

      Omg there's always the bitter commenter. I am Mexican and this tradition is for EVERYONE. It's for anyone who desires to make it part of their life. It's a specific way of seeing certain aspects of life and death and many people around the world might see it differently yet learn to see other possibilities. It's up to them to use, make part whatever beliefs, traditions they wish to incorporate into their life regardless of where they start it. That's what makes the world a fun, open, humble place. There are non Mexican people who might find spiritual answers or paths to ease their pain or other, perhaps they find answers by incorporating this tradition that allows them to re- connect with loved ones who passed which perhaps they couldn't because it's not acceptable or a tradition in their born culture. Dia de los muertos is a beautiful way to accept life with death, a natural event that we all must one day live and in a way that's spiritual. It also allows us to teach others the beauty of appreciating it all, cherishing loved ones, talk to them and find closure. These beautiful outcomes are to be SHARED with everyone in the world. I do yoga and that's not Mexican and I'm sure you do many things that are not Mexican! So stop telling this lady what she can or not incorporate. Btw .. these people are rare most Mexicans appreciate and want the whole world to take part ❤🎉

      We are coming to the end of the rainy season. Yes, very lush, we have the best of everything, South Pacific warm turqoise waters, surrounded by jungle and mountains. Thank you for watching 👀

      Thank you for watching! Yes, a gem that we knew of, but didn't realize how beautiful it actually was, or how fun the zip lining was! Well worth the trip, for nature lovers and fun seekers! :)

    I like watching real videos like this. Unfortunately I could not hear what herb that you planted for your son, your voice was a little too quiet u der the music. I love all the greenery by your place but not the creatures that come with it. Looking forward to more videos like this😊❤

      Hello Joan (hope I'm getting that correctly). Thank you so much for watching and your lovely comment. We truly appreciate hearing back from you. The herb I mention is comfrey (aka "knit-bone") - of course, this is not medical advice, but it's what I love and use. The creatures we have around here, well, they are definitely something else... LOL Thanks again! ❤️

      Yes you got my name right. Thank you for replying. I love herbs and natural remedies. The only thing I don't look forward to about Mexico or the creatures

    • @KristinaandDavid
      @KristinaandDavid หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed, natural remedies are the way to go, if possible! Most creatures don't want to come and visit us humans, we just happen to live too close to nature lol, so that's why we see them lots...

    I was lucky I fueled up the night before before the storm announcement. Line ups were quite long everywhere for the pumps.

    Preparing for natural disaster is not easy, bc you never know what will happen. But anybody went through on some ( flood, tornadoes etc) knows how important it is.

      Yes, even just a little bit always helps, if not for yourself, but maybe fortunate enough to help others.
