These Students Built Their Own Instruments!
Ross Sutter has been visiting Stevens Elementary for over 20 years to teach 4th graders how to build and play a one-string version of a fretted string instrument known as a dulcimer (not to be confused with the hammered dulcimer). Sutter estimates that he has helped students make 26,000 dulcimers over the years.

Which part of Thailand you lived in woman lol don’t get me wrong but I’m Thai too so please don’t stereotype our culture
excellent learning video Dave. All the best to you.
Love, love, love it, Mary. Long ago you entered my "gems" category (you and your Mom!). Carry on. You do good.
We were always made aware in due time what happened to our wounded. Always. A former point man was now a company clerk. He would send word in varied ways. Always.
Difficult to recall or remember every detail..sometimes. The other day I was answering questions from a fellow teacher, who was much younger than I. The stream of consciousness awakened by the request from him to elaborate about the scene, event and what happened so long ago started playing a movie in my memory that recalled the day in surprisingly clear details. I was oblivious to the listener ask relived the mine field incidents that happened that day so many years ago.
What an amazing man !!!!
Those were meat grinder years in Vietnam, Marine. Nothing but respect for you and your brothers in arms.
100% truth spoken here !
IMHO, human emotion is fine but it can be very disastrous if not handled/managed properly 😊
Thank you for your service SIR.
❤mercy and kindness goes along way man ❤.
Good for you, brother!
If you don't read the book, you're missing out on a lot of his story.
Awesome…. I will sure to visit on my next trip to your State.
I'm a Marine Vietnam veteran, but I was an aviator. I doubtlessly killed far more NVA and VC than Craig and his 3rd Battalion 5th Marines did. But I did it high in the sky from an air conditioned cockpit, and although I saw the antiaircraft fire exploding around me that made combat intensely personal to me, I didn't experience the mud, the blood, and the mangled bodies that Craig did. His Vietnam experience was very different from mine. The sphincter puckering fear I felt only lasted for a few minutes at a time, sometimes only seconds, and then after my bombs had been dropped on the enemy, I flew serenely back to my sanctuary in Thailand, a lousy can of C-rations, and a night's sleep on a dry cot in the jungle. In the Marine Corps, we were all trained as infantrymen first, and then later in our combat specialties like, as in my case, aviation. Regardless of our specialty, we never lost sight of the fact that the "grunt" infantryman on the ground was our brother. He was the tip of the spear. It was our first and foremost mission to protect him to the utmost of our power and ability even if it meant putting ourselves in utmost risk of death. I salute Craig and the legions of young Marines who fought the war in the most ugly and terrifying way for what I still believe was a just and noble cause. He's right that our lives were cynically risked by politicians and bureaucrats in Washington DC and by our leaders at MACV in Saigon who had no earthly idea about how to prosecute and win a war. Johnson, McNamara, Rusk, Rostow, Westmoreland, and their minions were blissfully ignorant of the conditions our fighting men were needlessly enduring because of their strategic ignorance or military incompetence. It is criminal the way that Fulbright, Church, Kennedy, and John Kerry sold out our South Vietnamese allies and the US and ARVN dead and wounded who fought to prevent the Republic of Vietnam from falling to Communist oppression and economic privation. Craig said that the Vietnamese are doing well now under a softer form of Communism. But one only has to look to South Korea to see how much better off they would be under a democratic system of civil rights and free market capitalism. Personal liberty goes hand in hand with economic prosperity. You cannot have one without the other.
The Jungle is the harshest environment to operate in this is why the SAS spend a month there on selection and all of them say its the hardest part.
Much love and deepest respect to all our veterans. Living and passed. ❤
Marine infantry VN '67 here...The thing is, we were never going to win a war where we weren't allowed to go into the enemy's country (North Vietnam) with a massive presence on the ground. And of course the geo-politics of the time with the Russians supporting North Vietnam, that wasn't going to happen. So no shame for the American military withdrawing without a "victory."
Feel sorry for the Veterans Blame the Government who sent them.
God bless all those who went to that hell Aisha’s place and fought
Thanks
My parent were the same. I joined the Marines. As it turned out my parents and the bible were right
There were no lines and all area was defined as occupied. The US Army used body counts to “grade” battle victories. Of course, about 1/3 or 220,000 of these were estimated to include non-combatant civilians.
Tank you for telling us your extremely important story.
Thank You for your service. Semper Fi Hopefully you can let the War die and truly be Born again in Christ.
My dad was also a Marine R.O. in Vietnam and he got out of the Marines and enlisted in the Army after a 4 year hiatus. I hope this message gets to Vet Craig ...my Dad was working at the embassy in Iran when it wad taken but his Marine training got him out and he got to the airport in the trunk of an Iranian cab driver who risked his life to get my dad out of there and safety to the airport. So you mentioning the hostage crisis always makes me thankful that my dad was a Marine before and always because it saved him and his desire to live that came from Vietnam and the training he received. As my dad would "Semper Fi" Craig. ❤
Welcome home. Thank you for your service, dedication and humanity. You’re a good man. May the fallen heroes RIP and all the vets be blessed. The nation owes you a great deal of gratitude.
What a fckd up thing to deal with, to come home and go to college only to be shamed and degraded. No words…
I just got finished his book. Read it in three days. A great book.
Welcome home Lyle, thanks for sharing your story. I was with FIrst Recon, Chu Lai, 1966-1967, glad you made it home and retain a sense of humor.
I was also with 3/5, Kilo, collected several Purple Hearts. I was ultimately medically retired out of the Marine Corps one month before I was 21 years old. Semper Fi 68-69.
Welcome home Craig. First Recon A3 55-67.
Politicians do not do more because radical politicians amomg them want to cut their benefits! One them the hell out of office! We all know who thoze Congress members are!
So much respect to you sir!🙏☝️
This interview could've been half the length 😂
Murph and Bowes …. Great friends 👍🏻
You can blame Lyndon Johnson and the Democratic party for Vietnam the Republicans had nothing to do with it but the Democrats had the arms makers in their pockets
The airforces door said closed for lunch. 😂😂😂 it’s a premonition they got lunch.
May God grant you peace. Welcome home. Cold warrior. Army 89-93.
Thank you for your service and I'm freedom
Americans love war and killing people, then and still now. What a sick culture.
Listening to vietnam radio seems like it would put one to sleep while listening to it
Your a awesome man brother
I've never seen a man who has seen such trauma but carries himself with so much tranquillity. So calm. Praise God.
I know. I just finished his book and didn't want to put it down.
613 laws of GOD. It breaks it down as far as GODs laws
I just dont get it : you fight people in their country without them declaring war on you. They never threatened you. And now you are probably eating shrimp that Vietnamese harvested. And we all by stuff from communist china. To sacrifice is a noble thing, but you only have one life.
That is why you should NOT have any business in someone else’s sovereign land You are the invader You are the one who fired 4000 rounds So You must face the consequences No mercy for those who have no mercy to others
I respect our veterans so much! I never served, but I feel like I’ve been an amateur historian out of respect for those who did, my father being one of them. He was a flight engineer in a B-17 over Europe during WWII. I’m soon to be 64, and wish I could talk to my dad and get to know him better. He rarely spoke of the war. I was able to fly as a passenger on the B-17 “Texas Raiders” which later tragically crashed in an air show along with another vintage military plane. My brother-in-law fought in Vietnam also, and I know he also brought home demons of his own. After my sister died, I urged my nieces to convince him to go to VA and seek disability , which he finally received the last few years of his life. I lost one of my two sons, so I in a different way understand the grief and depression that doesn’t seem to ever get better. I wish all Americans would appreciate the sacrifices of our military and veterans, and realize even with all of our current problems, we still live in a country with freedoms and opportunities most of the rest of the world doesn’t have.
So glad for your healing!!
~10 years after returning from Vietnam I began a ritual of "assessment" of the part I had played. It was sparked by my inability to look at the American flag during, the pledge of allegiance. It was for another 10 years when taking a shower I would cry while attempting to make sense of my experiences while in the army. Several versions of my experiences would well up. I decided to reduce the length of versions: reducing it to 3 words, then one. The one word, said it all, was sufficient to evoke the emotion (the disdain/disgust) that my part played while overseas: SHAME
Our government needs to step up ,get off that fat cat ass and take care of the men and women that served this country !
