    Hello Gary. That's a beautiful thing you've made, and what a finish! I could sit for ages turning it around in my hands, it's so organic. Do you mind if I have a go at making one? Best regards from Inverkeithing.

    • @robertcornelius3514
      @robertcornelius3514 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, before you spray on the final clear coat, is it alright to gently sand the paint for a smoother surface?

    • @garylowewoodturner1289
      @garylowewoodturner1289 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Robert, thanks for your comment. You can use any black acrylic aerosol / auto paint as a base

    Very nice Gary. I guess the burnishing cream is more like a wax. You can smooth out the surface without hurting it. Thanks for sharing.

    Just started watching your videos. Did I miss something? I would not have believed the finished piece was the same as you colored. Only because I couldn't pick out all the colors you had used.maybe my eyes. Thanks.

    • @garylowewoodturner1289
      @garylowewoodturner1289 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Joseph, this was done 4 1/2 years ago but yes the finished item is the same one, all lacquered and parted off. There is also a different shaped one right at the end ready to be parted off. I do next to no editing (as I can't, lol) From applying the colour then lacquer I stopped the video till the lacquer was dry prior to parting off. Many thanks for watching. Gary

    Oh I love that one, thank you for the interesting video. As a 76 yr old artist with a snowballs chance in hell of ever operating a lathe, BUT I have learned some tips that I can possibly incorporate into some of my art pieces. I do at least have an airbrush. Thanks for taking us through your creative process. from AU

    HI Gary, I was wondering, is there anything to stop me finishing the bottom (tenon) of the bowl leaving sufficient wood for the jam chuck, that way I don't need to reverse chuck it later? Have you tried this? Debs

  • @thefish5861
    @thefish5861 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I love those pieces, Gary. Are you using dyes, or some type of very thin paint?

  • @debbiecoull6957
    @debbiecoull6957 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Gary, are you also burnishing the coloured section. I made one at the weekend, but I want to know how to finish the rim to reduce the different levels caused by the ink. I did go over it with 0000 steel wool, which made a difference, but I'm still a bit hazy as to how to finish the coloured to get a really nice finish.

    • @ChestnutProducts
      @ChestnutProducts 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Wayne. I'm sure Gary won't mind me diving in. This is planned as a 'formal', sit down demo rather than an exhibition. As such, we took the decision not to invite traders as it wouldn't be fair, they'd spend most of the day with nothing to do as their customers would be watching the demos. There will be other side stalls for when our headliners aren't on stage, with up close demos and displays. Does that help?
