    No to the gloss on a dust jacket. Fiction tends to be better as a matte jacket. I'd do the matte case laminate underneath with a simple design in the color you want. The files for that aren't too difficult to do. Then you have more control over the spine.

    I was stationed with "Jake" when he came into the Marine Band at Parris Island. We were Lcpls together but not for long as he was rehearsing the band as a Lcpl and very very quickly moved into the NCO ranks before my time in the PI Band ended in '85 and we both went our separate directions. Great leader even from the start of his USMC career!

    I haven't read the work of this author before, but I love the idea to have an ebook, book, and audiobook for each book published! I think audiobooks are just as important as books in written form: after all, oral stories were apparently so important before the printing press! Anyway, a tangent, but I appreciate authors who make sure to produce good audiobooks. ))

    Clean Fantasy? Prudish Fantasy?

  • @greblaksnew
    @greblaksnew 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I think it's all about finding your reader as far as clean/dirty or anywhere in-between fantasy goes. As far as trigger warnings go, I don't like them, and I don't use them, I feel they are part of cancel culture; however, I don't have anything against a rating system like we have for movies and in the front matter of my book I state "graphic sex and violence. reader discretion is advised". just on that statement a discerning reader should know whether to pick up the book or not.

    • @grendhillchron
      @grendhillchron 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I think in some cases a content warning is appropriate, but I would be wary of an across-the-board system. I already don't like how traditional channels put a line between YA and adult, since I don't feel like there's any group that "shouldn't" read my book. Then there's Harry Potter - it's middle grade at the start, YA at the end, and it's darker in the later books. It might be somewhat difficult to categorize individual books if there were a universal rating system.

The same has been said about Paul Simon: th-cam.com/video/5J4t_Xz2RrA/w-d-xo.html (0:28-1:29) I think it's the area about the eyes - the plaintive eyebrows combined with contemplation. Also, I got the same reaction when trying to telepathically contact my mom following a fourth grade La Boheme rehearsal (the children's chorus, guys - the kids weren't putting the opera on by themselves, sheesh 🙄 😜), but that's another story.
