I agree there are obviously bad employers but there are good ones too .Employment has its positives guaranteed salary , holiday pay , pension and most importantly workers rights.The conversation is about bad self employment, all the requirements of being employed with none of the benefits plus very sadly many self employed are on very poor pay . It’s a conversation worth having . Thanks for watching the episode

This podcast is really fascinating and provides a lot of value. I’m passionate about barbering and would like to turn this passion into a career. I’m currently looking for a course in Birmingham to start learning. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

An excellent interview. I spoke to our prospective labour mp at the last election about this very subject of VAT reform and registration of barbers. All barbers need to be educated about this and should write to their local MP about the subject.

I've just opened my barbershop in 2023 and gone through the struggles of this though year so I found this a very useful podcast and can relate to most of what's been said 👍

I was trained as a hairdresser after leaving school and did an NVQ 2 from 93'-95'. I was pretty inexperienced and at the time not very confident in my skills. I later joined HM Forces as a Combat Medic, I found my skills useful whilst on operations initially in Bosnia and later operations. It really got me accepted by my peers and aloud me to build a report with all at different levels within my regiments and battalions. I later after leaving the forces went to work in close protection in the Middle East as a CP Medic. Again I took clippers scissors and a comb and earned respect and a little bit more coin on the side too. These days I'm a remote Offshore Medic, but have often thought about opening a shop and tuning the Barber skills. I have some great Ideas for a them for my shop, that I think would attract the customers that would reflect my past employment ant travel but also a link between my two trades. I wouldn't need It as a primary form of income and could let it grow. My only concern is the amount of "Turkish" and general barbers in circulation they are ten a penny. would you have any advice?
