    Heya! Its good to see your podcast. Love the spinning. I can't wait to have the space to get my wheel refurbed and join the making wool movement :) Well done on the stash busting! To be honest, I think that deciding a yarn isn't for you, then its perfectly fine to simply let it go. I have done the same. I've stopped the constant yarn buying by giving myself the goal of getting the stash down to only having the yarn for the next 3-5 big projects and a few smaller balls for socks/beanies/gloves. That way I am always using yarn that's new and exciting. I do allow purchasing to get enough yarn for finishing projects. I love knitting shawls, not a huge wearer though. Trying to get better at knitting what I or others will wear instead of just knitting with yarn that's pretty.

    • @TheMakersCorner
      @TheMakersCorner 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's good to see you here again too! I do love seeing familiar faces :) Ooooh 3-5 main projects sounds like a very manageable amount with some yarn for smaller projects thrown in there. I would like to half my stash into one box rather than have two. Especially now that I'm also spinning. Spinning is so fast! I'm not totally ready to give up on shawls but we'll see how much I actually wear the 2nd Avenue before I cast on another. I did wish I had one or a cardigan when I was at the beach the other day. The temps drop enough for me to feel a little chilly after a hot day. More cardigans also I think ;)

    • @RAHowes
      @RAHowes 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheMakersCorner I've got a couple of nice felt bags that I want to make my stash fit into. So, similar goals in amount. I settled on the knitting projects as I felt it would help keep me focused on the end goal. If it doesn't work I try something else. I want to have my spinning in another couple of those bags and intend to meld spinning into the projects goal. Eventually, I want to be able to prepare, blend, spin and knit most projects.

    • @TheMakersCorner
      @TheMakersCorner 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RAHowes We definitely have similar goals. Learning to process fibre from scratch is deeply satisfying. My friends and I were given a fleece recently. It's pretty old but we might still be able to get some good yarn out of it and if nothing else, our small little spinning circle will learn how to clean and process it as a practice.

    This is very late so not sure if useful but the yarn harlot had a good explanation on her blog about big bust/large back adjustments. Think she has a similar frame to you. Essentially it was following two different pattern measurements and consider the back and front as different sizes til the bust is done.

    Hi Sarah, I really enjoyed this episode. I can completely relate to the overwhelmed feeling. I love so many crafts and never feel I have enough time to do all the things I want and this has made me feel frustrated in the past and guilty too for some reason! Like you, I’m trying to look art things differently this year and focus on making a few things well. I am sticking to knitting, sewing and embroidery and trying to incorporate embroidery into dressmaking projects where I can too. Although now you have got me thinking about spinning too! 😀 I loved all the yarns that you spun and I’m excited to see what you make with them xx

      Hello Lizzie! It's so good to see you there and thank you so much. The overwhelm is real and I know logically it's silly and that our crafts should be slow and enjoyable but somehow the speed of life seeps in. I really love spinning so much. And you always inspire me to try embroidery. It's definitely on my list and I actually think it would be helpful with our heat. I'm playing around with the idea of detachable peplums on a few projects and I think embroidery would be so wonderful on those.

    Hi Sarah, that was a lovely episode. I adore spinning. I only really got deeply into it during Covid and now I have a lot of hand spun yarn. Friends have suggested I sell it at one of the makers markets, but I'm not ready to part with it yet. Yeah I can't believe what a difference it makes. It really feels so much bigger and flows better. It's always the way. Those embroidery hoops sat on my counter for like 6 months and it took about 30 minutes, including washing and drying the fabric to get them crease free ha ha ha. I am having a bit of a purple moment. Logwood is one of my favourite dyes. Not all dyes smell nice when you're using them but logwood reminds me of herbal tea and it's such a pleasure to use. Oooh yay for fractal spinning. I've been a bit obsessed by it for a while but didn't think my spinning was good enough yet but I won't get better unless I keep spinning.

      Hello! Thank you so much. I just love yarn and fibre and naturally dyeing and adding garment making to my hobbies felt like the next right step. I'm not Aussie born. I'm Scottish born (but in Germany), started school in Hong Kong (army kid) and have lived on 4 continents (I love to travel) and I've called Australia home for almost 18 years now. Until recently, I would have said I feel very international and certainly foreign everywhere I go but then Outlander happened 😂 and I suddenly feel very Scottish again! I look forward to the day when my pups are calm shop dogs but for now, they get a little too excited around customers so they have a garden out back and their own dedicated space inside.

    your comment about maths made me think of how ridiculous some maths questions are. i still remember in my year 12 exam there was a question about an orange in a washing machine and you had to use the weight of the orange and the speed of the machine to calculate how fast the orange would spin around or something. i would have paid much more attention if they made questions about knitting! the shawl looks stunning on you! perfect colour.

You are definitely good at maths! I say knitting is maths for women because it is relevant to the garment they want to make. Love your hand dyed mohair. And so in awe of how completely you have embraced the stash down. Love the puppies playing.
