That was good to see. I have a Kelpie, nearly 3. She doesn’t have stock to work but t try to get her involved in activities like Agility. She’s a very smart girl but very easily distracted by other dogs, especially little fluffy doodles and other Kelpies. She immediately goes into herding mode and it’s almost impossible to break her fixation. We live near the beach and she loves to have run but I have to make sure the beach is mostly empty. I get so frustrated with her that I’ve stopped taking her to the beach. Her recall is good if there are no other distractions. Any suggestions. We live on a few acres so there is some room to move.

Great video, but what If dog listen perfectly on the leash, but without leash she doesn't recall?

Never seen kelpies work before. Tough lite dogs.

Joe never ignore the mistakes the dog makes. Acknowledge and correct them. How?. Train obedience first on leash and while training pair the word good with a pet and praise. and a stern no with a correction upon the lead to teach a negative association and correction when the dog hears the word no. Once the dog has learned the words and what they mean, you can just use the words alone and this is very much needed off leash in the field

Hey Mick, that was great. One thing I'm curious of, are the sheep trained for dog training or are they just random sheep from the paddock? I have dorpers and found them pretty easy to train.

Surely you are teaching commands with body language. and the use of your lengths of poly dogs are great readers of body language.

I live in S Spain and see large flocks of sheep and goats moved by one or two shepherds and 4 or 5 dogs, mastins and sheep dogs. All you hear is the patter of feet and bells on the lead animals. Visited our local goat cheese maker and his goat farm. The pups and kids are housed together in a large airy barn so they grow up together. I have no idea how they train their dogs but the only time ive heard them instruct them.vocally has been when I walk by with my dogs and a younger dog comes to suss us out. Then they are called back. But even then its just a quiet voice command.

I would strongly recommend this channel wether you are an experienced handler or a complete novice! Yes people could argue that you have to pay but for anyone that has attended clinics we all know that everything has a price and the fact that we can rewatch these videos as many times as necessary really helps things to sink in!!!
