Back to Telling my Ancestors Story | Garifuna
I didn’t know commenting on a recent Garifuna documentary would spark so many reactions, you all brought me out of retirement and God revealed his perspective for my life regarding my ethnicity. I’ve been researching about my Garifuna roots for the past 15 years and 11 of those years were spent in my family’s hometown, the first Garifuna settlement in Central America, Punta Gorda, Roatan.
I look forward to sharing more with the world and connecting with other Garifuna people in search of their roots.

      I'll make a longer video about this but in short, the spouse visa you don't have to adjust your spouse status when they arrive to the United States. They enter the U.S. with their green card.

    Are you able to live bicoastal with 3 children?

    • @ThenCameRoatan
      @ThenCameRoatan 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes We’re doing it, having children is what confirmed for me at this phase that I want a bicoastal lifestyle vs. digital nomad because you’re simply designing the structure that fits your family’s needs in two places. As our children get older, we will adjust the plan accordingly. I know eventually it’ll become more “digital nomadish” but for now with 3 children under 8, I’m good with bicoastal

    I want to make this tonight! How long do you simmer the soup?

    • @ThenCameRoatan
      @ThenCameRoatan 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You bring the soup to a boil before adding the fish. If you fry the fish, you only need to simmer for 10 minutes. If you don’t fry the fish let it simmer for 20 minutes. But you have to constantly move the soup around so the coconut milk doesn’t separate. Instead of stirring it, you push the spoon up and down. Because if you stir it, you will break up the fish

    I love this post, thank you. My biggest regret is the loss traditional medicine in many African countries which guaranteed longevity and strength in the people. Now people celebrate new hospitals, the irony of which, a sad acknowledgment of prevalence of sickness. Eat traditional please, stay away from the happy meal and all the poison from McDonalds and other co-conspirators in the criminal enterprise of the pharmaceutical business.

    Arawak or Kalinago?

    • @ThenCameRoatan
      @ThenCameRoatan 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      They are two different tribes. Arawaks are mixed and include the Tainos from Puerto Rico. Kalinago tribe came from the southern part of the Caribbean and they traveled north mixing with the other tribes. The British labeled them red Caribs, yellow Caribs, and the Garifuna black Caribs. Garifuna are mixed with both plus the African side.

    Very cool! I've recently been looking into the history + flora n fauna of the Guianas and came across some info on the kalinago, garifuna + arawak. I love learning about all the west indian nations in general but recently I've been getting outside the islands, europe + north america that I've always visited in the past and seeing more of latin and south america. Ppl assume I'm a spanish speaker w' amazing proficiency maybe bcuz of my appearance lol but I have a strong anglophone background + only speak basic español. I've heard the garifuna cook with coconut milk + catch and eat seafood, y'alls food is described as quite flavourful. I have 2 try it sometime. During my travels I've found mayan food to be the most bland😂quite simple....but bland *sigh* perhaps bcuz I have a trini🇹🇹 or yardie🇯🇲 palate where I like my food to be very seasoned/marinated lol even desserts must have some essence + flavouring to them, my caribbean roots rejects the bland taste😂. Sazonador es importante para mí .

      lol I totally understand. Garifuna people are Caribbean so you will love our food. We eat the same. You give a Garifuna grandmother and a Jamaican grandmother coconut, plantains, fish, and some mutton pepper or scotch bonnet and I promise you they will cook the same meals. I'm glad you're expanding your knowledge of the Caribbean and Latin America. It's great to see more people discovering our amazing cultures!
