Started getting my son into karting. Got a good secondhand kart for him to learn in. Was doing well then all our local tracks switched to karting australia rules etc and got told ill have to change from the little comer engine we had to a minirok if we want to continue. Karts been sitting in the shed ever since.

The only thing Tom Williamson knows how to do is punt people off the track. What a flop.

Bad luck to Toby with these problems. I have roadraced for a long time. I could not do a night race anymore as I cannot read the track, oil down etc. And the glare. Dont like driving long distances at night anymore.. Day time with my glasses though is no problems. I also do classic speedway, supermods, generally better lit and no windscreen to glare. But the dust and methanol in the air makes me feel asthmatic and just gives me sore eyes. Have not visited a speedway in a couplke of years.

I haven't karted in 10+ years. Ran J's, Clubman then Rotax. Was thinking about getting back into it and I've heard the X30 engines are very similar and come good from the factory, so it comes down to driver and set up only instead of engines with 5 tenths difference between the good and the bad, is this true? I would only be competing at club level, what would you advise, is it worth it?

I think Tom is being a bit hard on himself saying he wasn't that good, he knows all too well what the biggest difference is between the 50 guys who get seats and the other 1500 good steerers who have to diversify, and that difference is not necessarily skill based....

before even watching it.....YES it is definitely struggling. Call me a dinosaur but i blame the loss of the Yamaha classes, the loss of Easter nationals and the rise of Rotax Nationals. I raced most classes over the 20 years i raced karts and the Yamaha classes were always the most subscribed. Once at Days Park (GCKC) i entered Clubman Heavy and we had 81 entries for a 21 kart grid!!! State opens regularly had 300 or so entries..Karting is karting, there is no point making karting like cars. I understand that the "powers that be" want to try and make seamless transitions from karts to cars, however why was it needed? And no disrespect at all, but i dont really get, or agree with Toms assessent of club days just being a place to learn. Back before it changed we saw the best of the best running club shows at any given weekend, now THAT is what makes the less experienced guys learn....I raced many a club day in a field with guys like Matt Wall, Hryniuk, Kel Treseder etc etc, and as a kid against a dozen guys who would go on to race professionally, and i found more in running with those guys than i ever would have if they weren't there. Sorry for the rant LOL

Great interview with Jordy. I never got to interact much with him in ipra, but always was genuinely nice when we did. This interview confirms it. By the way Brooke, I was at Northolm for a year in grade 8. As well as Matt Bryson who's a world endurance rally champion. They won't like this slogan but, "Northolm was a breeding ground for speed"😅
