Rogue virgin in the Cell Builder

One of the things I love about the Front Range Cell Builder (see th-cam.com/video/sG0SKWlu58k/w-d-xo.html ) is its flexibility an adjustability the slides and queen excluders allow you to easily adjust the format to fix problems in a perfect word the frame of (almost all capped) brood that got moved to the side that goes intermittently queen less should have been placed in the 1 frame chamber b...

What is a fly back split? it when you move the hive you want to split over a few feet and let the foragers fly back to a new hive in old location.. in the new box you leave a frame or 2 of open brood and the queen (or not).
48hours post grafting
มุมมอง 1142 ปีที่แล้ว
at this point the cells are portable and can spend 10 hours outside the hive, with out bees as long as they don't get overly hot or cold or dry out. this is handy for placing in queen less splits as they will have a 2 day head start on any cells the bees make and will emerge 1st, a great way to control genetics while still making easy splits

    Better Way, go to your local fish mongers and grab the polystyrene box's with lids. Put dividers in and rotary doors. 8 in one.

    I just found your channel. I like the no nonsense style of your videos. The way you fixed that crosscomb issue was awesome. Your channel, and videos deserve way more views and likes. I'm wanting to get back into beekeeping with the top bar hives I used, and your version of the foam mini nuc like the USDA has plans for gives me a way to do it. I had an idea about making foam nucs, but was considering the Klindworth type. What I do know is I'm not gonna pay the prices they want for the commercial foam mini nucs.

    You don’t add the cups to the builder the day before for cleaning and polishing like others do. Have you tried this? Your take seems too be high but might it be higher if you did?

      @frontrangequeensllc9098 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      "The cups don't need to be polished by the bees. Graft right into new cups and place them in your cell builder. I set up about 50 cell builders during the season, each with 48 grafts, and average 46 ripe cells, and often get 48"- Michael Palmer Most of the "big" guys use them right out of the bag, so that's what I have done.. I tried it once and didn't see a difference my feeling is polishing is a hold over from the days of wax cups

    I would tell them to do them with a mosquito net; because with an excluder they don't know, they are also better with a mosquito net. With an excluder, as they don't know how to emulate the swarm, they remain in a B quality. With a mosquito net to transfer it is too easy. What they don't know is to get superior quality with an excluder, not even similar.

    i did this earlier this week. works great except when the queen cells are against the top bar. 4 of them in 3 inches.

    for the "glue" people here is my 180 pounds standing on a box www.beesource.com/attachments/dscf1278-jpg.54241/ strong enough to do what it needs to These were for club work shops screwdrivers are cheap and many people can bring there own. glue makes messes witch limits were the work shop can happen

      mabe, but it also makes messes remember this wasn't a "build the best" nuc out there project, its intent was for club workshops and not geting glue on a venues tables/desks was a key consideration far easer to have a dozzen screwdrivers then a dozen caluk guns

    If you like that you should try using 1 inch foam. Makes a much sturdier box. No glue? Also get the screws with a washer style head. I love the skewer for the top bar. The bee supply shop have lost their minds. 20$ for the nuc plus frames 💩

    Mine absconded my first time too. I put an afterswarm in a blue cube mating nuc, and that took off. After I sell that queen I'll put in the divider and two queen cells.

    I picked up the tip last year from Lankford (Woolie B's) about catching them every few hours while they harden up. I have caught several like this and I'm now grafting. But your idea is stellar! I have probably 50 or more swarm cells right now in several hives. I'll be going by Lowe's after work. Thanks! --subbed.

    Thanks so much! I had been looking at some mini nucs in bulk, but the prices stateside were crazy and I didn't want to have to order them from across the world. I have several mating nucs but definitely expanding my Russian line this year. Thanks again!

    @noahriding5780 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Couple questions; In the video you don't say either way on if your size was to match compatibility with other systems' manufactured mini-nuc frames? And you didn't really talk about how the frames would work for this at all. You did briefly mention bamboo skewers, but didn't really explain if you were going to let them just make their own stuff to hang off that, or if you put something pre-made from the market in there, etc? Could you maybe comment and advise us on that?

      sure but I can be in, out, and done before I could even get the smoker lit and going Plus smoking can often make the queen hard to find and every thing that is going on is pheromone based, don't want to mess with it Its easier/faster for me to just put on full gear

      Yep The cup of bees has been smoked and sprayed with water and shook and tossed They don't have a clue WTF is going on and don't atack. usually I will give her a little spray of water so she can't fly and shake her out of the cage in to the nuc, but those dam leather gloves were fighting me so I just dropped the cages in after I popped the lid
