Stay safe with that crazy weather out there in the Caribbean !
@@CarolineBarnes-d2g thank you! I think we are through the worst of it but we will be cautious!
Ha ha! Welcome to your new life. Check your privilege at home. Bon voyage.
Yes! Thank you!
Welcome to Roatan, it was fun to meet you ☺️
It was awesome meeting you. We are back on Roatan but down at Fantasy Island for a bit. Hope you are having a nice vacation.
Good to depart at last. Sailing again! Too bad you can't swim in the Dulce, but it seemed like a pleasant journey down the river. And back on the ocean, how exciting to see the Dolphins come over for a visit! Liked the Maddie cam. Utila is a nice stop, of many to come we expect.
Yeah it was a bummer not being able to swim. I think the Rio will change a lot in the near future as it is a great hurricane hole and there is a lot of potential. It was awesome seeing the dolphins. They made us so happy!
The device you are missing is not the BMS they have a BMS inside each battery, You are missing a V.E. Bus BMS which talks to the system. Each of your batteries have Bluetooth which talks from the BMS. I truly can not see how they can charge so much for each battery. $5,500 I could have got 60kw of battery storage. You got 30kw for around $15,000. When I built my 60kw battery storage system for my house it costs me $9,000 2.5 years ago so you see how much prices have dropped.
You should say LFP instead of Lithium Ion. LI are prone to runaway current and catch fire. LFP are so much safer.
Thanks for the tip 🙌
I know how frustrating it is playing the waiting game. It’s been very interesting seeing all the dots that have to be connected to get work done from order to completion. We take so much for granted in our life in our part of the world! Glad you’re close to setting sail❤
Yes, it is very true when you leave the instant gratification world that patience becomes key. Glad they have arrived and looking forward to a new adventure.
interesting enough the videos are getting better and better!! Keep at it! Your babies are goanna thank you some day for this adventure which will help them be more unique than they can describe for a while... and Mr. Sailing Big Lost, I encourage you to be a bigger part of the VLOG... great to see Mrs. Sailing Big Lost but would like to see more of what your thoughts are . certainly, you're not as dull as what is going on with your channel, seeing as how much is being done but when it comes the a channel?.... build it from the beginning ... I am viewing for a family sailing, and you are in large part, just not in the family which isn't true... Thanks for being willing to VLOG in a raw fashion, this is helpful, look back in a few years and when the sailing is actually going with the place-to-place adventures I am sure your babies will be shining and hopefully Mr. Sailing Big Lost will find his rhythm as well. Many of us soon to be sailors are gaining valuable insight into some things to expect as we begin our journey. would be helpful to hear his insight as well.... May not be his thing but obviously it is your thing so why can't it be his thing.... kind of how Sailing Vagabond started so why not SBL!!
I must agree re Mr.SBL. I am certain that he has much to contribute! 😁
Thanks for your feedback! Greatly appreciated. I agree 100%. I have had a stern talking to Mr. BL and he is going to do his best to get more involved. Personally I think it just takes time to get comfortable being on camera. Please continue to follow along to see how we all improve. When do you plan to set sail?
Good to see those batteries, and.... more troubles, but at the end it seems you're back on track. Smart move with the labels to stop the bad juju, lol. Unusual, to have to evade a gator on a shopping trip?! 🐊 Rooting for ya, good luck.
Yes, thank goodness took almost 3 months to get the batteries. So crazy when you are used to Amazon dropping your packages off every couple days. We are making plans to depart the Rio in the next couple of days so crew morale is high!
Omigosh! It seems everyday brings a new problem! Just like owning an RV!!Hope you get to “pull anchor” soon and catch up with your friends! XO M
@@srd924 we are planning on it!
Cant imagine being stuck on a boat with small kids. How miserable.
It can be a bit tight sometime but the rewards of boat life make it all worth it!
Great info on the life raft!
So very happy she was well celebrated ❤❤❤
Don’t know how I missed Maddie’s birthday ❤🎉but there is another birthday party in a bag waiting at Roatan I hope🫶❌⭕️grams
She can’t wait!❤
good to see the raw realities of boat life at the dock
Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm glad each time I see a new episode on this promising channel. As you probably know, many sailing channels have spent a lot of episodes at dock doing maintenance; that is (unfortunately!) not unusual. Delays with shipping of parts are not uncommon. At least you have time to complete the finishing touches. I enjoyed this episode featuring Maddie, helping with boat work and enjoying her celebrations. The cruising community is awesome. Also enjoyed the parade which featured the local equine culture. Good stretch of the legs there.
@@FrankJamger Thank you for your support!
Hard to imagine hot & humid like that here in Idaho! Thanks for the great video of your hike, the views, the bridge‼️
Glad you enjoyed Charlene. We all had a nice hike once the kids made it to the top!
Connor screaming at 706! LOL. What are all the butterflys or moths?
@@mdh4748 I thought they were moths but I have since been told they are butterflies. They had several huge hatches and they were everywhere! Annoying!
We really appreciate your family sharing your journey, right from the beginning, learning to sail and getting certified! Bravo! We're right there with you!
@@raysalden4 thank you that is so nice to hear. Trying to show the reality of it. The kid’s ups and downs, our lack of knowledge but even with all the unknowns we are thankful for the journey and prefer living life our way. Wish you and your family all the best on your adventure!!
A wonderful jungle experience, especially on the suspension bridge. Aside from that heat, which a YT viewer is spared. Was a tough trek for sure, but the family overcame the challenge and I think all emerged with improved health and knowledge. Good hobby for Maddie, she's got talent. I looked up the Bay Islands and they look amazing. Hope you got those batteries.
Yes the bridge was awesome! We will definitely be sharing our future island adventures.
Se llama machete
Jajaja
Miss you finn!!
Just watched a couple of your videos … you’re working HARD … getting sick !?! … doing schoolwork … sounds pretty normal and looks like quite the adventure (except for the illnesses everyone but Conor (apparently) suffered. Thanks for letting us ride along on your adventure! Stay safe and healthy; we love you and miss you!
@@SawtoothBackcountry we are all feeling better now. Acclimated to Guatemala now and doing well
So interesting to see all the work you’ve done & are doing! I’m excited to be bringing down bits & pieces that will be used in your efforts. I enjoy knowing what’s going on in the country of Guatamalo like the torch run‼️Thanks for the update. Love seeing Maddie & Finn in action❤
Good to see all the fixes and improvements, making the _Lost_ home better than ever.
Very nice place & the food looks fantastic! What are prices like?
Food is great and has many options for kids! Looking forward to sharing some Meals with you❤
Looks like fun! Was the food good? Can’t wait to get a taste of local cuisine! And to see those smiling faces in person ❤
What a treat watching your Sunday adventure on our big screen TV! I think it’s great how you’re exploring the area and taking us along! Maybe the kids can get extra credit for what they’re learning‼️Love to you all, char/mom/ grams💞
Haha I hope they are learning! At the very least they are being dragged along and enjoying the parts they enjoy and complaining about the rest❤ one day I hope they look back and think, “wow, that was awesome!”
Nice trip. That lake is a wonderful place, rich in biology and culture. Liked the tropical flora, the birds, the lily pads, the frog. (Not so much the moths lol.) The castle is really awesome, enjoyed your historical review. Good choice of game.
@@FrankJamger glad you enjoyed. The moths are insane. Seems like every few days over the past week there are huge moth hatches. Not sure what the deal is but they are almost like snow in the sky they are so plentiful.
Looks like such fun!!!! Glad to see you’ve found families you can enjoy spending time with‼️
Kelly it was hard to see you so sick & not rush over to help, offer Healing Touch & love, cook etc. interesting to see the clinic. Thanks Chris! It really was the worst. I hardly ever get sick and when I do it is nothing like this!
Very calming
Absolutely…boat repairs made convenient with help & materials, side trips with new friends, always loved the charm of our travels to MEXICO mainland & Baja in the small of the grid villages‼️
Annoying voice
No
We encounter here the downside of a tropical biome, of all that lovely flora and fauna: bugs! Particularly in this case, a microscopic one. The bug you got looks really awful and I'm glad to see you recovered. So true about the blessings of clean water! I myself much prefer "Big Lost" to "Big Dog". A humorous name for novice explorers in the wild, I think... will engender some smiles. "Lost" but indeed you _found_ a refreshing lifestyle. Homeschooling appears to be going well. Of course, that new power supply will be a boon.
Yes, I am so glad we will have our solar up and running soon. Our boat was really designed to be running a generator or to be on shore power 100% of the time so will be thankful to not be so dependent on that. I had never been so sick and am not one to run to the doctor so glad Conor got me there or I may have been in real trouble given how dehydrated I was. Homeschooling is always a challenge but we are doing our best. Thanks for loyally watching our show. Glad you like the name.
Totally enjoyed watching this episode of your adventure! Thanks for letting us share the time with you!
@@SawtoothBackcountry glad you enjoyed our adventure! Great to have you along for the ride!
thank you for sharing your adventure with us! I smiled through the whole thing although I held my breath when the kids were all floating in the fast moving river to Conor! These videos keep you "close" so I don't feel that you are so far away. Be safe. We pray for you every day!! Love love love you all! XO M
@@srd924 love you too!
This nature reserve is a visually stunning place, aside from all the nice swim holes. Some of my favorite scenes: 14:35, 18:16, 20:44, 27:33. The jungle trek along the river and the ride down were fascinating. Prehistoric, yes. Kept expecting to see a pterodactyl fly over. That lodge is an awesome treehouse. Where there is so much sun, water, and flora there will be bugs also, and I can imagine those bites and discomforts. But, well worth it here I think. Thanks again for sharing.
Thanks Frank. Pretty crazy how much the river changed in 14 hours. Rain in the jungle is powerful! Always appreciate your comments.
What model is the boat?
@@johnkennedy689 it is a Robertson and Caine Custom 6200 built by Leopard in 2002. They only made 4 of this model.
My dream. And I’m 70.
@@stevedawson7649 hope you come visit!
Lovely journey up the jungle river. Wondering if you spotted any raucous monkeys or colorful birds in the canopy. More relaxing, for sure, than the work regimen you related. The approach in the tender also fascinating... definitely entering the tropics, could be a jaguar lurking. Maddie thinking of a friendlier cat, perhaps she would take care of it. Nice to meet up with fellow cruisers holed up in the area. A serious matter with your water supply, hope you get that worked out soon. The improvements you're planning should make camp life on the Big Lost more comfy. Well wishes.
No we didn't spot any animals only heard bird noises. We did hear that there are manatees that live in the lake but they are a rare sight. Maddie desperately wants a cat but I think it makes traveling between countries too challenging. The kids are enjoying the other kids. We hope to have an our water system back to normal soon!
@@SailingBigLost 👍 Sad about a cat but I understand. The Sailing Machete channel just said (ep45) that they'll have to send their Mickey back home next episode because cats aren't allowed in places like the Galapagos. :-(
Oh boy. The fun of boat repairs, and in a foreign language. I enjoyed the catch-up story summarizing how you got here and then the hassle with needing to change marinas. Someone must know what the bridge height really is (probably in metric) but that should give you a go- no go on getting safely by it. And you have a drone aboard? Fun aerial shots. A small suggestion: When you are going from one place to another give a verbal of the end points so one can picture it on a map. I am really enjoying these vblogs. Keep 'um coming.
@@stevemalone3279 yes we do have a drone. Still figuring it out! Thanks for the suggestion. I will do my best to give better descriptions of our destinations. So far we started in Nanny Cay, Tortola in the BVI, sailed to Isla de Guanaja then to Livingston, Guatemala to go through customs and then up the Rio Ducle to Lake Izabal. Thanks for watching!
Really fun video to show what life is like on first crossing. I guess as expected, mechanical problems to hassle and then also some boredom to deal with. The time lapse of storing provisions was fun and gives a feel for the hassle of putting it all together under a deadline. So far so good and, as before, well done with the video.
Oh yes, we experienced all sorts of things, boredom, mechanical issues, sail issues, kid issues but we made it safe and sound and learned a lot. Thanks for watching!
I agree with Steve M…the high speed grocery shopping made me laugh out loud but I’m sure it wasn’t funny to you!! ❤
great start, it will be interesting to see how the next 2 months go
Agree, thanks for following along.
"in stunning HD 1080p quality" :D it might have been stunning 15+ years ago. Thanks for the video though!
Valid point. I will remove that from the description. Thanks for watching.
