On the Homestead Protecting the banana trees
California retired couple turned their lives upside down when they left city life for an acre of undeveloped land in Northeast Texas. Now they work harder than they ever did in the past. There have been a number of difficulties, challenges and surprises they had no idea they would face. All in all, the Lord has been with them and the blessings have been numerous.

Also be aware that snakes like piles of limbs and firewood. I really don’t mean to be an alarmist… it’s just that the wrong snake could seriously ruin your day. Y’all have a safe trip!!!
Hi neighbor! I believe that’s a “tropical soda apple”. In spite of the cool sounding name, I don’t believe it is edible. We have those growing on our ranch in central Texas. They’re considered invasive. Also, please be extra careful when lifting plywood sheets like that. Especially ones laid across timbers leaving a space. This is a favorite hangout of snakes… including rattlesnakes and copperheads. I’ve definitely had some close calls on our place. 😮
I think that is golden rod. I’ve had some success with identifying plants with my iPhone. We’re southwest of you in central Texas.
Thank you neighbor. I will look up golden rod and see what google has to say about it. I should have you identify the fruit tree we have. It might be Asian pear or at least that is what I suspect. The fruit is small and we need to figure out whether it is a good tree to leave in the yard or remove. If I think about it next time I am on the property I will take a picture of it.
I missed it. How did you decide to homestead ? Do you have experience? Do you think it’s what you thought it would be. I live in a suburb and I have had the desire to move to tn for the last 4 years and do something like what you’re doing. But wondering if I could manage it. But wondering if I’ll regret it if I don’t try. Thanks
We did not think we would live in the country. We had a plan to live on a houseboat, but first we could not find a lake around here that had houseboats and secondly the boat slips with electricity is very expensive, so we decided to look for property. At the same time, the craziness of living in California during covid and the economy going sideway was what prompted us to move away from the city. We only have an acre and at time it seems like a lot and at other times we consider buying another acre connected to the property we currently own. I feel so at peace when I am at the property even with all the work involved. When we finish a project, we feel so good. Learning to garden to produce our own food has been a challenge but learning is about the what if. I do not think you will regret moving to the country. Find a piece of property near a small town and I think you will love it. What state do you live in?
@@reverendontheroad.pastorbrinda I currently live in California. But I have been looking hard in Tennessee. My kids are still young. So trying to figure out what is best for them. I’m glad you are so happy and feel at peace in your country home
Looks like everything’s coming along. There will always be some ups and downs, but that’s a part of gardening and learning the process. We are still fencing in the first few acres of property, but once done, I’m sure we are going to start figuring out where are gardens are going to go for the upcoming year: Love y’all’s videos!
We need to get back to fencing ourselves. The ground is really hard right now with the clay. As soon as it rains a few times, we will get back to the fencing. Thanks for watching and for commenting.
I’ve never seen that before! Maybe google photo search it?
They may be little tasks, but they always have to be done! I love your underground bunker!!! I’m hoping to have one of those these days! Keep up the good work and keep the videos coming!❤
Yes, that is so true. They have to be done. Thank you for watching us. The shelters are a necessary thing, not cheap, but necessary.
You did an awesome job! Hate that it ripped but it seems like you did an awesome job reinforcing it!
Thank you. I think it should hold through the winter.
Time will tell on the repairs. I guess it depends on how this winter lands out. We will definitely have to redo it next year. Thank you for keeping in touch.
New to the channel! Happy to have found it! We just bought land and starting to work on our own homestead! ❤ looking forward to watching more videos!
We are glad you found us too! Our homestead is not that large, but a lot of work, and it's getting there. I hope you are having fun with yours.

All are strays?
Yes they are. The mama cat which is feral brings her babies to us when they are 5-8 weeks old. I guess she knows we will care for them. A couple of the older kittens have neurological issues. One of them I think is mentally off. We are up to 7 of her babies. We also have an older cat that found its way to our garage and there is another of her 5 month old kitten that comes and goes. We have become a cat sanctuary and we do not know what to do about it. We have an appointment for the older male cat to get fixed this Wednesday. We are trying to tame them so we can catch them to get them fixed. But this is going to get costly. We found a place that charges $35 for males and $40 for female strays. It is part of the fix and return program. These three kittens showed up 4 days ago. They only come out when we are not represent.
You are working so hard. Thanks for sharing this video.
You are welcome. Thank you for watching!
Good job on getting the job done. Thanks for sharing. Have a wonderful day 😊
Thank you too. We appreciate the encouragement.
Good morning ☀️ What a great idea!
think it will work well to keep the cats safe when it is finished, especially when we are not there.
You are doing a great job. Thanks for sharing. Have a wonderful day 😊
Thank you.
Yes everyone should be growing your food. Its a learning experience. You are doing a great job because you are trying. Happy gardening 😊
Thank you for the encouragement.
I bought a hodge podged jet ski, though I didn't know it at the time. From day one, nothing but problems. It's burnt 2 computers, various leaks of all different kinds. That guy threw whatever he had available on it instead of a proper repair. It has beat me for now. There were cleaner skis, which I thought were a bit overpriced, but now, in hindsight, I would gladly pay for because of the trouble I've had with this one. It's stranded me out in the water, too. I've learned a valuable lesson about watercraft. Good luck, my friend.
So for your troubles. We never know what we are getting when we buy used,. We bought a tractor that needed work and that boat we own has been down more than running., so I understand your frustration. The skis we bought were perfect. It took only two tries to lift our granddaughter out of the water. She went 3 minutes on her first try. She was so happy and excited to try and ski again.
@reverendontheroad.pastorbrinda Down more than running, I resemble that remark. Yeah, you never know what you're going to get, even though you felt you were cautious or you were trying to be. There's always someone who doesn't mind passing their problem on to you. Sometimes you know up front, sometimes they don't tell you. One good thing. I leave this more knowledgeable about buying and repairing jet skis. Good luck with your boat.
It looks like worms. We get them here too

Work smarter not harder, friend. You don't have to carry a push lawnmower and its easier on the arms. Mow as close to the edges of the pots and structures as possible and through each aisle or lane then do your easy weedeating..
Thanks for the advice and thank you for watching. I was blessed by your song "should have been me".

I love your netting ideas of watermelons zucchini’s and tomatoes.
Thanks, its all I had. I bought spoils of toulle years ago to make tutus for my granddaughter and for also for crafts. I have tons of it, so why not use it. :)
Yes get the flood lights and run an extra 2 or 3 hours and stay inside during heat of day. Or go to town during that time. You can get there at 3 or 4 am to work thru sunrise.
I was joking when I said it, but reading your words, sounds like a good idea. Do our town shopping during the day and working before the sun rises.
Good❤💞🖐️🙏

Tulle covered and it in the heat water then freezer harvest tomatoes. Whole, blended for sauces., diced. Wide sliced. Hurry up on freezer the tomatoes as soften, there are other things coming. Pickling, the cucumber, massive freezer, grapes,m strawberries, mushrooms,, and Blueberries. To make your canned later and in sections. Almost everything can be done later. But you have to have the used freezers to do it, and an outside kitchen rigged up, between what will be your kitchen and storage building. You are sun burn, girl get lightweight long sleeve old men clothes from goodwill to cover up. You German, European is coming thru. Lasso that branch first next time. She can pull also.
Lee comes from the Danish and I mainly come from the Scottish. Either way you are correct.
