    Seems like there is some talking past each other here. The existence of God is not a presupposition apriori it is a result of aposteriori reasoning flowing from revelation not deductive reasoning independent or resident inside humanity as a result of some kind of legacy imago dei. Revelation and deduction are not the same thing. God has indeed revealed his mind in Christ and granted that knowledge (in and through his Son that is through participation). This communicated and revealed knowledge such that the believer alone knows things as God knows them in himself. (That is truly, but not exhaustively, since he has granted that human knowledge through the human being Jesus Christ so that we know the things in a human way. The only way we may know them). When the unbeliever however posits and says "God" all they can conceive of is an idol. Their knowledge of the idol therefore is kind of apophatic experience formed in privation and not as a revelation in and through Jesus other than an experience of the obverse. The incarnation as Word of God to man and word of man to God has made communication between the two possible not some kind of self evident general condition. These things were gifted in the humanity of Christ before the world was made. The above seems to be a challenge to Geisler's position without giving away ground to Van Til but perhaps i have not listened carefully enough.

    Jimmy Akin doesn't make sense. Worship isn't based on the recognition that someone or something is uncreated. Many pagan cultures worshipped, venerated and prayed to gods they considered to be created or subordinate to an overall creator God. Also, we simply don't see the apostles praying to any saint who had just died, and they could easily have invoked the intercession of Stephen, the first martyr.

    17:01 “every day that we have lived for ourselves..” that’s a little off. Gregg had multiple wives and multiple honeymoons for example. He would be “living for himself” in enjoying that time w/ his wife. The issue here is one committing premeditated overt sin bottom line and all of this “living for yourself” nuance is too hard to pin down

    Steve Gregg is teaching that “Everyone did what is right in their own eyes” is the model for the Church. Yeah that’s nuts. The book of Judges in part is a polemic for the monarchy, you’re not supposed to think the chaos and relativism are good. But since Gregg rejects the institutional nature of the church this is all he is left with…cheering for chaos.

    1. Existence exists (There is something rather than nothing). 2. A = A (Whatever exists is what it is and not simultaneously what it is not). 3. Consciousness is consciousness of existence. (Consciousness is consciousness of something. A consciousness conscious of nothing is a contradiction of terms). These axioms are performatively affirmed even in attempts to deny them. They require no proof because without them, you couldn't prove anything at all. These axioms provide the grounds for intelligibility. Existence is metaphysically primary and conceptually irreducible.

    I think that there is a misunderstanding here. A person is justified through faith. We say “faith alone” because we are saved by grace through faith and nothing else(Ephesians 2:8-9). Not “faith and works” not “faith and love”, not “faith and sacrements “ , not “faith and church membership “. “Faith alone” means that the saving work of Christ is applied to a person through faith and nothing else. A person is saved by Christ by His death for one’s sins and resurrection. (1 Corinthians 15:1-4).This is applied to a person through faith.(Romans 5:1). There is nothing else necessary and anything else is adding to the work of Christ. When a person is saved, they receive the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13-14). Love is a fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). One cannot love until one is first saved. Likewise, a person cannot do good works until one is first saved. We are spiritually dead and cannot do anything pleasing to God unless we are first born again and saved (Ephesians 2:4-6). This is not a minor distinction. The reason being if you add anything to the gospel, you preach and/or believe a different gospel that is damning (Galatians 1:8-9). If you add works or love to the gospel of salvation by grace through faith, you are saying that what Christ did was not enough for your salvation and that you must contribute to it. This is a false gospel and if one clings to it, one will wind up in hell because one is not trusting fully in Christ for their salvation but are ultimately trusting in themself. One either trusts in Jesus for their salvation or they don’t, there is no such thing as partial trust in Christ. That’s why this is so important and that is why the reformers were necessary. I think that this issue is still a major divide between Catholics and Protestants and rightfully so. We’re talking two different gospels, the biblical one which saves and the Roman one which damns. The discourse on this video is good but we must remember that the issue of justification through faith is a major issue and we cannot have true spiritual fellowship until Rome repents of her gospel and embraces the biblical one.

That verse is the main reason why I stick with the 430-year timeframe as I can't see a logical way to interpret Genesis 15:13 in any way except that they were actually afflicted that long. At 13:30 when he summarizes the argument from Spinoza would he not need to show the necessity for such a perfect being to exist Before he concludes God exists? How does he make the jump from defining what a perfect being is, to requiring that a perfect being must exists? Couldn’t the atheist just deny the existence of a perfect being? Am I missing something? It’s a hard argument for me to follow. God bless!

    my biggest problem with the Catholic view on this, is that just taking a "pattern" of how Jesus treated Peter, and extrapolating that out to be some kind of head of an earthly conglomorate, is a stretch. All of those passages have to be interpreted a very specific way in order to reach the Catholic conclusion. It could just as easily be said Peter was the head ... of the apostles. He was in charge of them, not the whole body of Christ. Nowhere in the Bible does it lay out anything that is actually clear, regarding the pope/papacy, and Rome, and a head quarters, etc. if God wanted to set up a political like structure for the church, where there's some kind of "head" on earth, and bishops with all the garb etc ... he would have done what he did in the old testament and given us the blue print for it in his word, with rules and structure etc. Going off a couple verses where Jesus elevates Peter, and building out the entire thing we see today with all the rituals, garbs, etc etc, is one heck of a stretch.

    I usually agree with Steve on what he has to say, but I do disagree on what he said about Michal and David (or at least, I see him as being inconsistent with what he just said prior). David went and married other women after Michal was taken from him, so according to what Steve just said, doing such a thing is accepting the divorce (just like a man who gets married after his wife leaves because she is committing adultery). How are the two scenarios different? In other words, if a man is mad that his first wife leaves him because she is committing an adulterous relationship, so he goes on to marry another, but then his first wife is sorry and tries to return to him, is he still free to take her back even after he has married?

    Church is a fellowship of believers, not necessarily FOR unbelievers. Although they could attend. Church is global then there is a local sampling of congregations. There is no loyalty to a denomination … there is one leader of the body of those who follow the gospel and keep Gods Will as set forth in the written word. And there is one church from beginning to end. But there are congregations that would be worse than no congregation… Paul pointed out. It’s an invisible spiritual union, the global body. But, there are qualities of the institution. One overall church. Baptism is the initiation rite. The members are identifiable. An institution was expected. The apostles were the initial institution. They set up deacons and elders who aren’t chosen hastily, they are to be ordained after they’ve had ‘time’ in the body. The body should obey and submit, respect them… Jesus gives apostles authority to set rules… bind and loose… forbidding and permitting… need for organization, offices and structure outlives its members… Roman’s ch 12… leader is a servant not dictator… if they speak against God, are acting outside the Word of God… but with binding and loosing … it’s up to the apostles to set the standard … recall ‘where two or more are gathered’ approach. The church sets penance for sin.

  • @OfftoShambala
    @OfftoShambala ปีที่แล้ว

    Leader is a servant not a dictator. The leader must obey God and if they act outside, the body does not have to obey. What is bound and loosened on earth will be bound and loosened in heaven. This was said to the apostles… but it applies to the church to follow the apostles. But, because it was the apostles will be the ones who set the norms for future leaders to follow. But there is a need to deal with new situations, beyond the lives of the apostles. But it should follow apostolic tradition.

  • @OfftoShambala
    @OfftoShambala ปีที่แล้ว

    Notes… Catholics Both/And … Union of all believers. Many elements of Grace. Mathew 16 & 18 … 1 overall church, points to it being an institution. It’s membership is identifiable and baptism is part, excommunication can be part of it… Jesus expected it to be institutional. Starting with the 12 apostles who went forth to set up… by setting up deacons and elders… Paul and barnabas set up churches then set up deacons and elders. Hebrews 13:17… sets up an authority in the church… the authorities set up rules… rules of conduct… Peter also plays in.

    • @OfftoShambala
      @OfftoShambala ปีที่แล้ว

      In any given area, there is a need for a leader to maintain consistency thru the various churches in the area. By the 1st century, this had been established. They had bishops presbyters and deacons. The people seemed United in the acceptance of leaders up to 2nd century. It doesn’t take long to depart from the tradition. Seen in Old Testament. The leaders have oversight for the purpose of keeping the traditions. Issues came up in Corinth. In the epistles, Paul mentions Stevanos, he told them to submit to people who are living the tradition. But leadership was needed… takeaway, leaders lead by example. Church is obligated to not contradict scripture but sola scriptura was not ‘available’ in early days… everyone needed pastors to teach from the scriptures as few were privy to the scriptures. But, there’s the problem of false claims due to imperfection. Leadership isn’t ‘the church’ … Jesus first appointed apostles who then appointed leaders… but there will be a single church … gives leaders jurisdiction to establish rules, based on apostles … the church would endure till the end of time
