    I bought one last week for a friend. After the purchase I didn't receive any confirmation email, tracking code or anything. I contacted them through their website and they aren't able to see my purchase even though the payment went through. I am currently trying to find out what happened with my order. I really like their products so I hope the situation will be clear soon.

    Since you're measuring from the top of the string, I think you should subtract the string diameter from the reading to get an accurate measure of the distance from the fret, since string action is defined by the distance from the top of the fret to the underside of the string. These gauges are designed for string height at the nut, as there is more tension lower down the neck, making the strings less prone to flexing under the weight of the plunger.

      Yeah, I’m not a huge fan but If I get an unwound third string, I’ll have to find a different saddle for it to intonate correctly.

    I use the Mojotone quiet coil P90s they sound great. They aren't stacked, they are 2 coils side by side. Same size as the original. I have two guitars one with the stock P90's and the one with the Mojotone. The hum is the only difference I can hear. The Mojotone is very quiet.

    Wow that hum seems crazy bad. You probably need a power conditioner for your amp or something or have some electrical interference leaking in somewhere cuz that hum seems too extreme. I've got 3 p90 guitars and 2 single coils and none of them hum like I'm hearing yours

    • @olddogguitars23
      @olddogguitars23 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      This is a ridiculously noisy space. There’s a lot of electrical interference. On the pick ups, I put in here the biggest problem was my mistake mistakes and breaking the ground wire off of the back of the pick up.

    I have loved P90s since the first time I heard Leslie West back in the late 60s. Owned several, LP Jrs, a non-reverse Firebird with three of them ... love the tone, hate the noise. Right around Y2K, I acquired a Squier Tele Custom Deluxe with 2 Duncan-design P90s that sounded as good as any I've played. Only problem was, recording now as I do in a room full of electronics, it was kind of limiting to always have to be in the center position. I decided to try a set of alnico V Mini Humbuckers. I bought cheap ones (GFS), so I was able to go through several sets until I found one I liked. (I've since found use for all of them). The ones I settled on are right around 11.8-11.9k, and they sound pretty close to a P-90, albeit with a bit less edge and a tighter focus, but all in all, I like them a lot. I definitely reach for that sound a lot more than full-sized HBs. (An aside, I was considering that very Revstar, with the explicit intention of installing minis, but hated that tailpiece so much that I decided against it. 😀 Different strokes and all ).

      That’s awesome and yeah, I guess we all have different tastes! I got my mini humbucker adapters in today and I’m thinking of putting some in here just to see how I like them. It’s an easy switch back if I don’t.

      Once I fixed my mistake on these pick ups, they are remarkably quiet and sound really good. I think I’ll be happy with them for a while.

  • @olddogguitars23
    @olddogguitars23 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

    OK, I had a few problems I discovered when investigating today. First thing was, I had broken the ground wire on the base plate of the pick up while I was installing it. The second problem was, I had installed the bottom coil upside down, thereby doing away with the hum canceling effect. Finally, the middle position still didn’t sound right so I reversed the wires on the bridge pick up and everything sounds much better in each position now. I may try to post a short showing the comparison.

  • @Mrlz56
    @Mrlz56 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Get a ISP Decimator II. "100 bucks" it's not a line gate and I'm not sure how it works but it does do the job without effecting the treble. I've used it in noisy clubs with a strat type guitar. it fixed the same issues your having. Buy a good cable. Klotz la grange for example. Check your amp and Tubes. Keep in mind Fender inc. doesn't make good quality amplifiers anymore. See if the Yamaha has any shielding. Check the ground wire that goes to the bridge.

    • @olddogguitars23
      @olddogguitars23 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I’ve heard of those pedals. Seems like a pretty cool approach. This guitar is grounded pretty well, but I broke the grounding wire off of the back of the pick up when installing it. Found a couple of other mistakes and now they sound great with very little noise.

  • @GretschenMunch
    @GretschenMunch 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

    One thing that seems to be missed here is the issue of pickup height. The alnico pickups are much lower in the guard than the ceramics were. Could be why it appears the ceramics has more output. When making comparisons its best to keep all other variables the same.

    There is an objective reason why people tend to relate to vintage guitars in a much more subjective way. There was much more of a human factor present in their manufacturing and, as a result, they were much more inconsistent. It might sound silly to say that one '59 Les Paul has a different "mojo" than another '59 Les Paul, for example, but, in a sense, it does, i.e. different specific individual guitars had qualities that resonated with people differently for reasons they may or may not have been able to objectively define.

    I'ma stop you right there. I like a SHAPE, or a TYPE of guitar, based on personal preferences. I like an LP, or an archtop, probably mostly from childhood and tv cowboys and rock stars and such. I don't care for strats. Maybe because I saw so many strat shapes over the years that they just strike me as sorta ho-hum now. But a specific guitar? Because its inexpensive and does what I need it to do, I need a metal shredder, I need something good for blues, I need something twangy for rockabilly, whatever the case may be. I may gravitate a bit more to the body styles I like, but the part that really matters is the feel and sound.

    • @olddogguitars23
      @olddogguitars23 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I get that. I have several telecasters and gravitate towards some over others due to how they feel and sound. There are obviously objective preferences involved but our cognitive bias can also have an impact.

    Years ago I had a 1956 Gibson ES 125, which this guitar is clearly based on. It played like a dream. Then for a while I switched from Jazz to Rockabilly, selling the ES 125 to get a 1961 Gretsch Double Anniversary (which I still have). But I always missed that ES 125 and regretted selling it. Having gotten into Jazz again recently, I decided to get one of these, as the average price of 3500 pounds for an ES 125 is now beyond my price range. Best decision I made. This guitar is like the return of an old friend. It does exactly what that old 125 did back then, and looks as cool. My 'test' piece for this guitar in the shop was the Barney Kessel intro to 'Cry Me A River'. The sound and tone was all there! I no longer mourn the sale of my old ES 125, and cannot recommend this guitar enough.

    • @olddogguitars23

      @ yeah in my experience, traditional Stratocaster pick ups have a very narrow signal response. I’ve tested some using an oscilloscope and they miss a lot of low and mid frequencies that you get from P90 or humbuckers.

    I just bought a Player II, Black with maple, bought a “DG” inspired 920D Customs loaded pickguard, t h wit custom David Gilmour “inspired” pickups as well as all the other electronics. Did that and a Tusq Nut. All together I’ll have about a grand in my tribute black strat . Been wanting to do one for years, fell in love with the Player II neck and decided it would be a great platform to start with. I know it’s been done A LOT, don’t care, I’ve always lusted after a black strat. Can’t pull off a custom shop one, so hopefully it’ll be at least close to the specs. And again that neck is just sublime on the new Player II’s, those rolled edges, satin back of the neck, should be standard on guitars. But that’s just me. 😂

    I recently have gotten into Firefly guitars and had heard about the Cort guitars as well. Prior to the Firefly I was really into Squire guitars and found them really affordable and a very good value. But the Firefly has a slightly wider neck than the Squires which I like. The string spacing is identical, but the wider neck allows me to play more comfortably. I played classical guitar for years so that kind of makes sense. I sometimes have an issue with the E string going off the neck with the Squires buy not with the Firefly. Does the Cort have an identical neck width as the Fender models? Thanks, just subscribed.

    I always install the jacks on the outside of the chassis to wire them ( before feceplate is installed) Same with some of the potentiometer wiring. You can wire some of the tube socket stuff before install as well. Also , double and triple check all the jumper.leads on the bottom of the eyelet board. It's a nightmare to tear it all out afterwards. Fender used to solder the eyelet board from the underside and it would produce nice domed solder joints on the topside. Use a dab of flux and clean the eyelets with 99% isopropyl first!! Nice job by the way! You'll find a load of great info on mods and improvements on rob robinettes web site !
