“The Way Home” can be seen as a musical metaphor for the journey of life - filled with moments of peace, joy, and discovery, ultimately leading us back to a place of belonging. It evokes a feeling of ease and relaxation, associated with a sense of journey or return composed in a South Indian classical (Carnatic) music scale “Bahudari” which creates a very light-hearted and joyful mood. The composition is set in a complex 7 beat cycle but flows naturally and gives listeners the impression of a more common 8 beat rhythm, an illusion that showcases the composer K J Diliip’s ability to blend complexity with accessibility, creating a smooth and continuous musical journey. A key feature of the piece is the engaging interplay between composer Diliip and the renowned bassist Mohini Dey. Their solos and “trading” add a dynamic layer to the composition, highlighting their deep musical connection and creating a sense of dialogue and spontaneity that enhances the overall joyous mood of the composition.
