I feel a little better after watching part 2. The key is still putting the God of the Bible first, talking things through, carrying out the plan TOGETHER. Again I say do not be so rigid in the I am the man/leader thing that if you SEE a plan FAILING that you cannot change courses midstream. Dr. Tony Evans tells this story. The captain of the ship sees a light in his path and knows his ship and the other are on a collision course. He signals demands that the other ship change its course, because HE IS THE CAPTAIN. The one giving the signal says, no you change courses because I am a lighthouse. If the captain proceeded in his I am the captain mode, it would have been disastrous for all involved. Sometimes you don't need to see a thing through to the end to know it is not good. Your now wife will respect and trust you more and without effort, if she sees you are not going to shipwreck your relationship for the sake of "being the man". I love the way she says YOU POUR INTO HER. As she says, that makes her WANT to serve you. Submission is easier if you WANT TO. Keep doing that and you both will blessed in your marriage.

Thank you for this discussion. Hopefully in your quest for learning to submit, you have prayed about it. Wives are to respect their husbands and as a wife of almost 50 years, it is easier to respect a man who follows the God of the Bible intentionally. Talks out plans, hopes, dreams, and realities rather than just laying down the law. Submission actually works both ways, as Christians we submit one to another Ephesians 5:21. Submit in marriage simply means the man takes the lead for the sake of order. Like in the military, everyone cannot be the general, the major, the lieutenant, the sargent, the private. There is order. However unlike the military discussion must take place in marriage. As a husband you know that your job is is not only love your wife enough to die for her, but also be willing to live for her. I'll tell you I am uncomfortable in hearing the words from the Duchess that the plan is VERY UNCOMFORTABLE for her. As a husband it is your job to explain the plan, explain why it is for the good of your marriage, your family, and most of all explain how the plan will glorify God. She did say she expressed her concerns to you and even offered other suggestions. Don't dismiss her suggestions or her feelings. Dismissal will make a woman bitter. She is to be your help meet, meaning her concerns and ideas are valid and should be taken into serious consideration. She may see something down the road that as a man you do not see. Trust that God gives her insight too. Then she may say - this takes me out of my comfort zone, but I am willing to follow you in it. I suggest that you not be so rigid in your quest to carry out a plan. If you see this plan really is not working and it is now affecting our relationship in a negative way, don't be so determined to do the thing because - it is what men do. Have the honest discussion and say nope this really is not working for us, lets learn from it, build from it, but maybe we should try something different. To both of you I say kudos to you for having this conversation before saying vows. May our Lord richly bless your marriage.
