Wet and Cold Climbing- Te Araroa 24/25 Day 36
Started well but as we moved onto the back country track it rained and the wind changed. It was
very cold. Meet some great people on the stairs on the way down

I think most complaints on that section are the “uneven” ground along stop banks and trails. The road section is very short in comparison to other sections. Good progress guys
Hello
Beautiful weather!!! Keep going 💪
Yes it was awesome!
Glad for your unification. Your Whare is restored. Glad to hear.
Thanks for the support, it was a stressful time!
The tent Saga would have been stressful, glad you were able to successfully resolve it. Good you were able to successfully do the log crossing over the creek - I've often wondered how many people actually slip in, esp. on a rainy day....
Wait was very stressful
Welcome to my neck of the woods. I could see you at the top of Mt William. But you’ll be over Mt Pirongia getting into Waitomo now I’d say . Happy trails
You got it spot on
Eden is The Queen of the Swings 👑
Yes she is
Mangawhau (Mt Eden) - Georges childhood haunts and back yard.
Yes we really enjoyed it but the wind was blowing
Making good. Doing well. Great!
Thanks so much for watching!
amazing views
Thank you yes there were some incredible views, more to come
Often the trail doesn't go to plan😊 Flexibility is key.
Yes it was a great day
Kia ora Eden. Your pronunciation of Māori place names is a pleasure to hear. Keep it up. Ngā mihi.
Eden thanks you Rob
Kurt’s joke is getting a hiding across many channels this season 😂 Love it
Yes i wondered if someone would notice
Every step taken is one less to be taken.
Yes just let me ish my steps were bigger
Well done on the 500 K marker. I remember the climb from Pkiri as pretty tough and the walk to the cafe on SHway1 as a hard trek.
Yes a long day but not to bad
Take it slow, hope you're feelin better now
Yes all better now think it was the dehydration
Beautiful time to be up north with the flowering Pōhutukawa and the turquoise Moana.
Yes we enjoyed the scenery!
Looks like you are having fun 🎉 Thanks you putting up these videos as I'm enjoying travelling the trail with you both 😊
Thanks so much, we are really enjoying it.
You must be near Auckland city at the moment. Wishing you both a happy new year on trail. What a great way to see in the new year
You are right, it’s pretty awesome.
Good to listen to your body and rest when you need😊
Yes
Slay the day away
Thanks mate
Nothin quite like the bond ya both share....hikin through nature's wonder! When she sits at that piano, it's like magic fills the air. Keep going 💪
Yes the music was a special moment.
Good on you both. It is so good to relive my TA adventure through the lens of your camera. Thankyou so much. 😊
We are so glad you are enjoying it.
James is a stalwart.
Yes a real asset to the trail
Damn ... I was so hoping to see how you'd squeeze passed that other person on the walk bridge. If you cared - you'd go back and show us how you did it 😊
I'm sure you will get the idea - it was tricky!
What a wonderful adventure to do together..fantastic 😊 Enjoy making those memories
Yes, we are enjoying every minute of it.
Liking dad is useful haha ...
Yep very useful
Have an awesome Christmas!
Thanks you we are
You are becoming track conditioned! Yayyy!
Sort of
Meri Kirihimete to you both. Gee walkers are still starting behind you. You not at the back of the caterpillar.
Yes we found that out later
Good to see you recovered John and 'back out there'. That TA restlessness (I call it), when you've just got to feel the need to keep going! Keep walking! Take care! I must say - your videoing is improving. Keep sharing your experience. Keep sharing your wonderful story. Most importantly - ENJOY IT FOR ITS WORTH to you both. Noho haumaru 🙏
Thanks Rob yes it was very frustrating
Great to hear you are back on the trail😊
Thanks
I thought I was going to fall of that bridge when you put the camera over!! 😂 Glad to see you guys back on track and enjoying yourselves 😉❤
Great video then
Haha yeah that bridge was a bit scary!
Best wishes, do what you need to do to keep yourself well and safe.
Thanks
Are you keeping yourself well hydrated regarding your light headedness. Good call to get yourself and your medications reviewed. Take it easy. Hard to relax rest when you're a TA and you feel and know the need to keep going.
Yes and yes
Good call. Hope you recover quickly 😊
Thank you, I will
Keep up the great trail content. Rest up, Happy hiking 😊
Thanks! It's a bit of a challenge!
Nice to have a good rest and eating day! Keep going 💪
Thanks, and you are right it is needed!
I just pour boiling water on my porridge so I don't get a burnt pot😊
She has done that
Was the piano playing at the end of the video Eden? If so - beautiful. If not, still beautiful.
Rob no that was not but still beautiful
I found that I needed? twice the normal calories 😂 and eating regularly.
Yes we are finding that out
Awesome to see ya both enjoying your adventure 😀! I tried the Appalachia hike trail here in US but wasn't able to finish it in 2019, will try to attempt it again sometime in the future. It's over 2200 miles long. Subscribed from Maine, US. New Zealand looks a beautiful place to visit
Thanks just keep going I am sure you will do it
Thanks for the update about 'Poppa'😊
Thanks for caring to ask
Such is the Winterless north. Comes with "rain forest" and the sometimes endless humidity. You're in the north at the time of the season of Pōhutukawa. Ātaahua.
Yes very humid and hot
Loving the banter between the two of you 😂 especially Eden’s ‘art’ hehe
Thanks! Glad you like Eden’s art 😉
Could you let us know where you get to at night?
Black ridge campsite
I found hiker's wool really helps pad blisters 😊
Thanks
You guys are doing so amazing, I am so proud!!! Keep up the videos <3
Thanks, it's a bit of a challenge!
I forgot to mention the other day that valseline is a great preventative of sweat rash.
Thanks
I'm 80 and 7 years ago l did the TA from Cape Reinga to Hamilton total of 800 ks. I didn't have a single problem with my feet or muscles. I put this down to using Keen tramping boots much better support for ankles and lower legs than shoes. I also used 100 per cent wool socks and every morning massaged my feet with Vaseline, the Vaseline is an old marathon runners trick. Result not even the slightest suggestion of s blister despite the endless mud and stream wading of the 4 Northland forests. If you haven't been so fortunate at least start each day with the Vaseline and get some trampers wool from a chemist to cushion your feet. God bless you both.
That is amazing to hear about your TA journey, thanks for the advice!
