Oscar is a great ambasssador for the Duoro and what it produces. If in Porto make sure you visit their tasting venue. Quevedo excellent ports with a huge range of types/styles - and the Xmas advent calandar is top.

Madeira wine is very complex and interesting. There are three other varieties you did not mention. Terrantez, Moscatel and Bastardo. One other variety is Listrao which I believe is only grown on Porto Santa and Blandy’ have recently released a vintage of which I have two bottles. Worth mentioning is a producer Barros de Susa that no longer exists and was bought recently by D’Oliveiras. They produced a very drinkable Moscatel but sadly no bottles are now available in Madeira. In my opinion the only Madeira wines worth drinking are 10 years or more although the 5 year old do make a nice cocktail with a good tonic and a slice of lemon peel.

Great tips! How long will Special Reserve Port last once opened? I have a bottle of Cockburns (bought for around £10) that’s been open around 8 weeks.

Very good video! Thank you. One question, in case of Colheita(Vintage) what is exactly the difference between vintage port and colheita? I heard Colheita is matured in wood, not a bottle. But vintage port is matured in bottle for a certain amount of time. It looks confusing. Please help

Thank you for this great info. I bought a vintage port and it’s so delicious. I just don’t have a stopper (cork) for after it is opened. Do you have any advice for that? I only drink port once or twice a month, but a small quart glass. I’d love to store this specific bottle. Also, do I store it in the fridge or cupboard? (It’s super cold in my kitchen)

I am on a quest to find out what ruby barrique would be. I found the info "matured in ruby port barrique" on a bottle of whisky, which does not make much sense to me, ruby is matured in large tuns, they are never put into a 225 litre barriques. Or are they?
