Great video, sir! I work as a direct sales rep for Tuff Shed and just wanted to clarify one point. Based on the screen captures of our shed design program in your video, you purchased a heavily modified/customized Sundance Lean-To model from Home Depot. What you ultimately wound up with is very similar in appearance to the Premier Pro Studio that we offer on the direct-sales side of the company, but your starting point was not the Pro Studio model that you've linked to in the video description. That model cannot be purchased from any Home Depot. The apples-to-apples comparison for the Sundance Lean-To that you purchased from HD would be the Premier Lean-To model on the direct-sales side of the company. In a 10x16 dimension, the base price of those two models is only about $300 apart and that's due to the Premier Lean-To including a longer warranty, upgraded flooring and radiant heat-barrier on the interior roof/wall sheathing. You definitely saved some money going with a customized Sundance Lean-To instead of the Pro Studio, but many Home Depots don't offer any customization of their Tuff Shed models--let alone customization to the degree that you paid for. The Pro Studio also includes a 24" front roof overhang vs. your 18" overhang, a taller back wall height, a full-lite entry door vs. the rough opening for your custom door and as a 10-year vs. 5-year warranty. Most folks will probably find that ordering the Pro Studio model directly from Tuff Shed is a much easier option to get the same overall look that you have in your shed--albeit a slightly more expensive route based on those listed differences. Thanks for your time!

I had Tuff Shed (through HD) build a 10 by 12 building for a studio in 1996 (28 years ago). The cost for the shed plus upgrades was $1600. I don’t renter the finish out costs, but I did all the work my self ( electrical, insulation, flooring and sheet rock). I put a new door on several years ago, had it reroofed and have had two AC units. Other than that I am still using the studio daily. Tuff Sheds last.

I finally caved to fill my wide angle gap with this. I'm looking forward to astrophotography, but besides that I'd say it's my least exciting lense purchase. All the other lenses gave me capabilities I didn't have before. But I have a decent ultrawide on my phone and that makes almost $500 seem like a stretch to justify.

I also got a Roku setup with the Stream Bar Pro, the surround speakers to the rear and the sub. Really like the performance. My really big complaint though that I thought going to the Roku system over the built in speakers is the clarity of the dialog. The Roku did not help even though it has a setting for that. From doing an online search I found many have the same complaint regardless of the audio setup. Seems the problem comes from the content provided now days. I have no problem understanding the dialog on older movies, TV shows, talk programs etc. However recent decade movies and network TV shows sound like the people are talking through a pillow. Has technology gone backwards. Some say it is the down mix from 7.1 to lower arrangements or other excuses but why can I understand the dialog on Cops which is filmed live in the field better than a controlled movie or TV shoot? Any suggestions?

Appearance is great: I am unconvinced as to the technical and spec end of things? f you were interested in efficiency, the floors would have been insulated, the walls would have been 2 x 6 and your roof would have been 2 x 10 allowing for more insulation which is always cheaper than more solar or grid power. Further, instead of separate heating and cooling units a single high efficiency heat pump would make more sense. IMHO The ceiling insulation job did you no favors as it is unventilated which shortens the life of the roof. If your purpose was a sound studio Tuff Shed might have advised you to use rock wool insulation instead of fiberglass for its superior attenuation qualities. As someone who has built multiple homes for myself and others, I am guessing the frankly insufficient stone work and the steel base framing will come back to haunt you. Lets hope my guess is off.

I know you said this is not a How-to, but I’m curious if your insulation/drywall contractor mentioned the complexities with the vapor barrier? I’m in the Pacific Northwest and am in the process of converting my 200sq ft Tuff Shed into an office space. The ceiling has the radiant vapor barrier like yours. Drywall and insulation contractors won’t touch the ceiling because of that vapor barrier and ventilation. Two have told me that baffles are required (which is an easy fix) but with 2x4s and the studs being 24” on center, that won’t leave much room for fiberglass insulation. The other problem I’ve learned after loads of research and talking to insulators is that insulating over the vapor barrier will 1. negate the function and efficiency of the barrier, and 2. create the perfect trap for excessive heat and moisture which eventually leads to all the problems. So, I’m curious about your ceiling insulation, are there baffles? Either way, how are you keeping the airflow between the vapor barrier and the insulation circulating? Have you noticed any issues yet now that you’re over a year in? (PS: I can’t get Tuff Shed to give me any answers about the ceiling and insulation, so any advice you have is great!!)

If I want to film everyday life, travel, walk tour to capture the environment and product reviews where I will behind the camera most of the time to do the talking, elements record for game making and I want to experiment music making with singing and instrument too and the video will be shot with a Panasonic HC-X1500 camcorder and Sony A7RV, what minimal multi use cases no show on screen audio setups are right for me, should I get just one stereo super cardioid shotgun mic or an omnidirectional audio recorder to do it all or combination of them to cover stereo and mono needs? That camcorder has an optional handle with LED and 2 XLR inputs but the setup will be tall even before add the mics, is XLR necessary and will I able to use the XLR handle on the camcorder as music recorder? The gear I have in mind are the unique looking stereo Sennheiser MKE 440, Deity V Mic D4 Duo, Sony ECM-B1M, Sony PCM-A10 recorder, Zoom H2n, Saramonic SR-VRM1, Roland R07 and Zoom H3-VR. For photography, I shoot mainly for document life and creative shots and potentially photograph for photorealistic shots, I haven't know how to get photography gig yet, I will use the A7RV to shoot photo but do you think it's for me I should go for RX100 VII, or something in between, but I think there's no much reasons other than weight to get unpocketable compact cameras because you get less handling and EVF but still need to carry with a bang or hang on neck, I know I can get great shots with RX100 VII or Lumix LX10 but I have some photographs ideas that might only able to achieve with interchangeable camera which is full body person with background blur from a distance, ultramacro and I want to try to join competitions. I not a bokeh person but a story and creativity driven person and prefer most of my shots to be fully in focused, and sometime I wonder do I really need to put so much effort into carry these gears when I can just google the photos I want to look at that other people already took, what you guys think, A7RV, G9 ii, G95, GX9, RX10 IV, LX100 ii/D Lux 7, LX10, RX100 VII or something else? I was plan to get the Sony 70-200mm F4 ii with 2X tele converter which can get 1:1 macro and 600mm digitally too but that camcorder can reach that hence it's less needed and just I need to figure out ways I can get more magnification of macro hopefully with a tele lens too to reach things further away.

Stereo is nice to capture and you can always make it mono later in post. Stereo mics into a camera can work well or using a field recorder like from Zoom with a stereo mic can work too. Best of luck on your projects.

I see, sorry for asked so much, but if after some research I come down to narrow my audio gears to just Sennheiser MKE 440 stereo mic, MKE 600 shotgun mic, Line Audio CW3 pencil condenser mic and Deity HD-TX small XLR recorder, is this good setup or I can still reduce it like using the stereo mic as mono shotgun mic by only using one and point it to source and extract the mono track from the 2 channel stereo tracks? Can the pencil condenser mic use at outdoor to record element and distance talk source without need shotgun mic? Or my setup is already minimal or I actually need more?

Hi sir I am planning about making an indie feature film mostly horror and thriller. I am looking at sony fx6 and Red komodo right now. Which one would you recommend for me ?

    • @BlakeCalhoun
      @BlakeCalhoun 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

I like the Komodo and the look of RED in general as it just “looks like a movie” right out of the camera. The FX6 is great too, and it’s more of an all-in-one video camera versus having to build the rig like with Komodo. And it’s a great option for documentary or run & gun style shooting. But for narrative fiction I prefer RED, but you will need to customize your rig. Best of luck with your film!

I then set up the speakers as rear speakers, and the sound quality improved, but I still ave to set the volume higher than I would prefer. I'm somewhat hearing-impaired. I'm thinking of adding a Roku Bass or a second set of speakers, or possibly both in order to increase the volume output. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sir, would be nice to attend a paid master class in person in Dallas or online. We can learn a lot from your experience to make our own films

What size is this shed? Scanned through and couldn’t find it, apologies if the information is in plain sight 😅

Hey, I’m interested in shooting my own short scenes (not a film yet until I get more experience). But I’m an actor, do you think it’s possible to act in it, monitor the sound and have someone record it if I show him what to do?

Sure! Lots of people act and direct at the same time. It’s not easy, but you can definitely do it. If you keep it really simple, you could just do a wide lock off shot and do it all by yourself, but it depends on what you’re trying to do. Good luck!

One thing I should add, is make sure you get quality sound. That will really make a big difference. Potentially wear a wireless mic or be sure the boom mic as close to you as possible.

I have a Streambar and like the sound quality. But it has one very annoying tic: The sound automatically mutes when I go from one channel to another; or from the Roku home page to another source, like my blu ray player or broadcast TV. Does anyone know how to stop it from doing this? P.S. Writing this in Apr. '24. I was finally able to get through to someone at Roku who suggested replacing the HDMI cable with a different one; something that never occurred to me. Well, it basically worked. Yay!

I built the same modern shed, from scratch, very similar, but i didn't do any of the landscaping? i'm not sure why you went that route. maybe when you were designing this you spent too much time on pinterest looking at the rocks/landscaping? i was more concerned about structural reinforcement from hurricanes, where i went overboard
