Here in the Netherlands we finish oak with nitrostain and 2 layers of transparant varnish . The middle to dark brown finish leaves the grain in full sight . The collor of the stain is usualy E50 . Cleaning with a damp cloth is all it takes to keep it new , even after decades . Thanks for the good video .

As a Dutchman I love the Mission stile furniture from Gustav Stickley the most . Sturdy yet elegant , with brilliant feel for dimensions and ballance , he was a true master .

I usually use bees wax but next time I work on a piece I will try the paste wax. Thanks for enlightening me.

Just recently, after retiring from the military and a law enforcement career, i’ve taken an interest in finding used and abused antique furniture.....and restoring them. (Currently working on a late Eastlake knockdown armoire....bridging the gap into Arts and Crafts style). I know the purists out there cringe at amateur restorations, but I try to stay true (if at all possible) to original finishes....but in the end, I want the item to be used, appreciated and attractive...and I target primarily used and abused items. I continue to look for a Stickley chair; and I have to say that “hunter green” leather? Gorgeous choice! Bravo-Zulu, job well done, on saving that side hair and bringing new life into a beautiful piece!

Well I just waxed a piece with clear wax. Now I want to go back and add a color wax. Also , I let it dry too long. How do I go back? Furniture cleaner?

How about using mineral spirits to clean it?

Unfortunately Bruce is a complete inept idiot. Another talking head with more ego than brains. Rescued for cheap from some poor sucker.

Perhaps you could explain why? This seems to be a fantastic video with excellent advice. Or are you just a troll?

If I use this wax to finish my bed or dining table, does the wax rub off any stain my mattress/clothes/tablecloth etc?
