Legions Of Doom-Interview-Talking The Skull 3 debut album with Karl Agell
มุมมอง 29 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
The 2021 passing of vocalist Eric Wagner (The Skull, ex-Trouble, Blackfinger, etc.) looms over LEGIONS OF DOOM’s debut, as The Skull guitarist Lothar Keller and bassist Ron Holzner (also ex-Trouble) pick up with material that would have been on that band’s third full-length and realize it in a different form. With Wagner’s involvement in the composition and the blessing of the singer’s family, ...

I think what may have been missing is Chris DeGarmo. When he left the band, they struggled. Mike Stone and Parker Lundgren are both GREAT guitarists, but the Chris DeGarmo sound was still missing. Now with Scott Rockenfield and Geoff Tate gone, It can hardly be called Queensryche anymore. I did stick with them when Todd LaTorre took over vocals (Quite admirably I might add, considering the shoes he had to fill) but when Scott left, it was time for me to let them go. Thanks for all the great music, guys.

Perfect example of what's improper about what usually makes music popular; sensationalism. I must admit though, Corey Feldman is somewhat irresistible in that sense; I've watched his live performances many times. Sometimes I still wonder if he's actually self -aware, but it seems not so. I've also watched some testimonials of former touring musician-mates who tell of how bad of a guy he supposedly is, at least business-partner-wise.

First time I did a quick listen, I was like “what happened?” After a few listens, I started to dig it. Don’t get me wrong, there are some tracks that just don’t do it for me at all (Thrill), and 369 would’ve been amazing if it lead somewhere instead of just being a filler. I still like the album, has a lot of amazing tracks that make up for the bad ones, but like you said, it does feel like they’re trying to get out some radio-esqe stuff. I started getting nervous when they started releasing a lot of singles from the album months before the release (usually not a good sign), with the last single release basically saying “oh ya, we still have our sound”. I’m just nervous about the concepts of “progressing” or “maturing”, which to most metal heads means their favorites are about to fall off. Zeal and Ardor became my favorite band almost immediately when I heard them, so this was a hard kick in the junk.

@@hectorThechilldudeonacouch it’s weird. It’s one of those things where they set a really high bar for themselves with Stranger Fruit. They also surprisingly are not super well known. I mention them to people all the time and 99% of the time, the response is “who are they?”, and I’m pretty sure they’re aware of it. Maybe the radio-esqe tracks are to ease people in, but like I said, I’m also nervous about the concepts of “maturing” or “progressing” (looking at you, Slipknot), but is it my favorite, not even close. However, I don’t think it’s a complete throwaway. I just feel a lot of the tracks would build to something, and that something never came. Manuel also cut waaaaay back on the screaming/black metal vocals.

I think meshuggah originally tried triple bass' but the high gain amplification was too tough to get right for bass. It is definitely difficult to engineer. The modern music scene is such that people often need something to be popular before they give it an actual chance, and often the sound/melody is secondary to the imagery and/or vocal/lyrical content. I’d love to work with vocalist(s) in the future, but I think there are enough screamers/growlers out there and good singers are quite rare. Graephyre 6 is already sounding great. I’m attempting more noisy compositions this time, but I usually end up making things very melodic kinda unintentionally. Someone unsubbed and you returned my count to 100.
