    Sounds like the big difference is awareness of how you’re playing sounds and being able to adjust to balance things out. Honestly I think empathy can play a role in this too. You gotta put yourself in the listener’s shoes.

    I think everything's pretty much there except A FEW THINGS. You need some hard tape distortion on every track. Trust me my friend. I'm considering starting a channel devoted to this style because of the lack of understanding on TH-cam. Another thing is that regardless of what you've been told, there's not a ton of close mics on drums for this style. If they're there, they're super low in the mix. You'll get most of your drum sound from the overheads and the room. Any close mics are to add a little body to your snare and toms. Kick is the only essential close mic. Mono OH. Use plate verbs on vocals and spring on guitar. Slapback on, vox, gtr and bass (to taste for the song). I'd love to see an updated video if you try these methods!

    Very good video. It also shows that comparing digital equivalents to real amplifiers doesn't make much sense. There are too many variables, and the guitar tone is more about the character of the sound than about accuracy with the original.

    I just bought one of these and could not help but take the bottom cover off. That tube is indeed wired to the board. Looking at the circuit I do think it does something.

    • @grif900
      @grif900 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Shure enough that tube is indeed backlit by an led but it does do something. The one that came in my unit is a genuine vintage G.E. 12 AX7 ,and as a tube amp builder , rebuilder ,fixer; overall enjoyer, this thing is really good. I got it into an auto -wah mode that sent me into a Garcia -Terrapin Station mode that I made me grin so big I messed around with it for hours. Really nice sound from a 70's tele into a freshly rebuilt 1966 Fender Super Reverb with a vintage tube complement. Absolutely incredible combination. I'm in love again at the ripe old age of 58.

      @@grif900I LOVE Terrapin. It's hard to find people who really appreciate that piece of music the way I do. I'm not even a massive Deadhead, although back in the 80's most of my friends were. There are just certain things they did that I think were stellar. I prefer the era from Terrapin through In The Dark. Brent Mydland did for the Dead what Jimmy Page did for the Black Crowes. He was the spirit-possessed driven prodigy who whipped them into shape and made them do their best.

    The panning is fine, but everything sounds very isolated because there's no reverb anywhere. I'd put some stereo reverb on the drums to fix this, but everything else is solid.

    This comp is really good already out of the box. I rebought one, after listening to an old track I recorded through it 10 years ago. It's really clean and smooth. Crazy, you can get them for 20-40 bucks used. Would you still do the mod or let it as it was ?

    The evolution my understanding of what I need to be a good drummer: Ok I just need to have good coordination. Ok my arms can't take it. I need to learn to hold my sticks properly while coordinating my arms and legs. Ok my average person sense of rhythm isn't enough. I need to pay attention to it while trying to hold my sticks properly while coordinating my arms and legs. If I wanna play faster all said skills need to be even better. Ok turns out I need to accent notes. I need to pay attention to the accents while paying attention to the rhythm while trying to hold my sticks properly while coordinating my arms and legs. Ok so practicing on the pad does not translate to the drum set very well. I need to keep in mind the physics of all the cymbals and drums and to turning my body around while paying attention to the accents while paying attention to the rhythm while trying to hold my sticks properly while coordinating my arms and legs. As a side quest, also I also need to find the height of the throne and my position on it and in relation to the drums set that fits me. Ok now that I can play faster and longer my arm cramps are back in addition to the shoulder and back cramps. I need to stay relaxed while keeping in mind the physics of all the cymbals and drums and to turning my body around while paying attention to the accents while paying attention to the rhythm while trying to hold my sticks properly while coordinating my arms and legs. Ok so my sense of rhythm is still awful. I need to start counting the notes (preferably out loud) at least from time to time while trying to stay relaxed while keeping in mind the physics of all the cymbals and drums and to turning my body around while paying attention to the accents while paying attention to the rhythm while trying to hold my sticks properly while coordinating my arms and legs. Ok my band members complain that I'm being too loud. I need to pay attention to the volume while counting the notes while trying to stay relaxed while keeping in mind the physics of all the cymbals and drums and to turning my body around while paying attention to the accents while paying attention to the rhythm while trying to hold my sticks properly while coordinating my arms and legs. Ok my band members and I constantly de-sync. I need to pay attention to what they are actually playing while paying attention to the volume while counting the notes while trying to stay relaxed while keeping in mind the physics of all the cymbals and drums and to turning my body around while paying attention to the accents while paying attention to the rhythm while trying to hold my sticks properly while coordinating my arms and legs. Ok I just watched some video that tells me that not only do I need to pay attention to the volume but to the consistent and intentional volume of different parts of the set. I need to hit the same spot of each part of the set consistently with the same angle of the each hit while paying attention to what the band is actually playing while paying attention to the volume while counting the notes while trying to stay relaxed while keeping in mind the physics of all the cymbals and drums and to turning my body around while paying attention to the accents while paying attention to the rhythm while trying to hold my sticks properly while coordinating my arms and legs. And my coordination, rhythm and technique still need to be worked on not to mention the advanced techniques of "shanking", "sliding", "moeller", etc. Devil's instrument.

    I recently purchased a used MDX 1200 from Guitar Center for $60. Much to my surprise, it arrived in mint condish. This was my second way back then, my first was a DBX 163 to which i lost my virginity but in my defense I was drunk and emotional.

    ON electric guitar : it sounds to me like you just moved the "modded" mic a cm closer to the grill resulting in a tiny lil' bump in the low end. The mod really isn't worth the effort. But hey......youtubers 😂😂😂

  • @Ash_Hudson
    @Ash_Hudson ปีที่แล้ว

    Halfway through the vid, but to your credit... other than some wobbly time and inconsistency on the snare hits, I felt your performances had more energy. Could contribute that to the louder playing on the cymbals, whereas your brother's cymbal playing was clearer and tighter and more controlled but both performances could have their place on a song. Obviously overall your brother is the better drummer, but I don't think you sounded terrible at all, man. Regardless of how good anyone is anyway, playing live is a million times easier than recording tracks in a studio.

    I have one of these and I love it. Unfortunately I'm having problems with it lately. The main issue is that the grey buttons have become very unresponsive, especially the up and down buttons . Its an old unit so I don't know if the buttons have become worn out or else if dust or grit has gotten into the unit. Anybody else had this problem?

    It's likely that, your overly hot pickups lead to the unwanted distorted sound. The solution is to set the Volume on the guitar to about 90%. I am not sure. What do you think?

    Bought this unit a few months after it came out, it was way ahead of my BOSS GT-6 for direct amp tones, I kept it until a few years ago, sounded pretty good into the effects return of a Marshall style tube head I also had, I kinda wish I didn't sell it, I liked its simplicity, maybe with a small IR Loader it could still kick ass. I also had the Tonelab LE and I remember it kicking ass live though I can't remember what I used to amplify it o_O
