Got front knuckles/wheel bearings off a 2500 from junk yard. Upper ball joint requires a tapered shim, lower ball joint bolts right up. Tie rods have to be flipped upside down, but they also bolt right up. We used the 9.5” front diff from the 2500 donor, including the cv axles - I think the splines on the 1500 axles might fit the 2500 bearings/hubs, but can’t remember for sure. There are mods required to fit the 2500 front diff, so if you’re keeping the gas motor, it’s easier to stay with the 1500 diff/axles if they are compatible. We swapped the rear diff/axle to the GM 10.5” out of a 2500 Suburban. Different gear ratios than the 1500. The total axle length is shorter, so wheel spacers are required for tires to clear. We did 3” spacers, but if I did it again, I would do 2” or maybe less if you can get away with it. Also, factory 2500 wheel offset doesn’t work - tires in front and back stick out beyond the body using factory offset. We used stock wheels from a 2019 Ram, which had the perfect offset, same lug pattern. Just had to get concentric adapters, as the dodge hub is slightly larger. You could also address the offset issue with custom wheels. 1500 has a 4-link suspension, 2500 has leaf springs, so all 4-link brackets have to be cut off the old axle and welded to the 2500 axle. 1500 wheel speed sensors use a different tone ring than the 2500, so ABS is not happy. You’ll have to get that reprogrammed or swap the 1500 ABS unit out for the 2500 unit. Nothing about those are the same, so will have to change plug on harness and possibly modify brake lines. We had our reflashed with a 2500 suburban VIN. There may be other ways to do it, but that’s what we did.

@@JScottShipman No, you don’t use fence stretchers - there is a ratcheting tensioner and a tension spring used for high tensile fence. We have an installation video on our channel that you should check out.

Lower ball joint is the same as the 1500 Yukon, upper ball joint needs a tapered shim for the tapered ball joint bolt since it is too small for the 2500 knuckle. Tie rods need to be spun so they are upside down and they also bolt right up.

Yes, some of the screws go into the tube, but the tube is open at the bottom and doesn’t retain water. You could tie all dead wires to ground, just extra cost.

Yes, power beyond works great. The 4430 has closed center hydraulics, so there is always pressure available, but fluid doesn’t flow until you use something. You just need to be sure that you get spool valves that are closed center or you’ll loose hydraulic pressure on the entire machine.

@@BlackHorseRanchIdaho That’s awesome! Do you happen to have a wiring diagram for what you did? Looks like with the 2500 frame on the Yukon it should be pretty strait forward mounting the drivetrain.

@@Back-Yard-Builds Yes I have wiring diagrams for what I did, though I would need to go through and clean things up to make them presentable. Unfortunately I have no time for that right now. Are you using the LBZ transfer case? The gmt900 4wd module won’t work with the gmt800 transfer case and the gmt800 4wd module won’t communicate with the GMT900 computers. The only real way to make that work well is to get a transfer case from an LMM. Our Yukon was AWD, so I had to add all that wiring. I made a 4wd module with an Arduino and used the LBZ transfer case. Once that transfer case bites the dust, I’ll swap over to the LMM transfer case. If you have a manual shift transfer case, you should be fine.

Totally understand not having time now but If, and when you get a chance to put together that wiring diagram, I would greatly appreciate it. Not many people have done this swap therefore, it’s hard to find good information. Thanks!

@@BlackHorseRanchIdaho what are some of the changes you had to make for wiring into the fuse box? Like for TCM power supply and how did it the lbz transfer case module work in the denali?

I am assuming your '07 Yukon XL is the new body style GMT900 - same as mine? You have to get the GMT900 engine/transmission harness out of an LMM. You can keep the injector/glow plug harness from the LBZ, but the biggest problem is that the wires in the main connectors (X107/C107 and X108/C108) were shuffled around between connectors when they went to the GMT900 platform. I downloaded all of the wiring diagrams from GM and made my own drawing because pretty much everything has to be spliced/moved as far as injector harness to engine/transmission harness. There are also some additional GMLAN high speed wires on the GMT900 (LMM) that weren't on the LBZ. AND GM swapped to different connectors and male/female ends! So you can't even re-pin the connectors! The LMM engine/transmission harness plugs directly into the fuse box with no mods. As far as 4wd goes, if your '07 yukon xl had 4wd already, the easiest thing would be to get the transfer case from an LMM (I believe that is the MP1626XHD transfer case). It should bolt right up to the Allison. The LBZ transfer case, shift motor and controls are completely different between the two platforms. The Denali was AWD, so it didn't have any 4wd controls or wiring. The 4wd control module from the GMT900 platform won't control the LBZ transfer case, and the LBZ 4wd control module won't talk to the computers/switch in the GMT900. I added an Arduino module and programmed my own 4wd controls that work off of the stock GMT900 4wd switch, but will control the LBZ transfer case. Very difficult, but less expensive than getting the LMM transfer case.

@@BlackHorseRanchIdaho damn i was hoping i could somehow make the lbz eng/trans harness work with my yukon gmt900 platform. I read somewhere that the lbz ecm had capabilty of using GMLAN high speed? Trying to find the eng/trans harness for lmm is kinda hard in my area without buying a whole other parts truck

The LBZ does use the GMLAN high speed, it's just that GM changed how everything was wired and the order the comms were connected to each module. They also changed connectors and everything. Your LBZ engine/trans harness is physically missing wires, not to mention the fact that the LBZ harness won't plug in to your '07 fuse box. I guess you also know that you can't use the LBZ ECM, TCM, Glow Plug Control Module (GPCM) or transfer case control module (TCCM) from your LBZ? That is because GM changed their low speed class 2 comms to GMLAN low speed. Nothing will communicate with your vehicle modules and so you'll never get it running. I got all of my modules and harnesses from Hicksville Auto Salvage in Hicksville, OH. They specialize in Duramax and shipped everything to Idaho for me. I know the TCMs are especially hard to get right now. I got mine for $250 - now they are $1,300 and no one has them in stock!

Unfortunately priorities changed on the farm and we didn't end up continuing the stock dog training. we would loved to have continued with it. If we ever get a chance to try it again, hopefully we can document the whole process.
