Rolex 39mm Explorer 1 maintenance 214270 service
มุมมอง 1.3Kหลายเดือนก่อน
A maintenance service of a 214270 in the now discontinued 39mm diameter. A model I often recommend to customers looking for an investment. Not a massive transformation, so I've tried to show a few different angles and processes.
Rolex GMT 116710 - Missed service windows
มุมมอง 2.5Kหลายเดือนก่อน
This watch is a typical example of a Rolex which has missed service windows. The main tell tale sign we see is the excess movement in the rotor bearing which causes it to damage the movement plates.

Please enjoy, like and subscribe :) This video was recorded a while ago, so it is a bit of a step backwards in audio quality. I decided to upload it rather than delete it as it is still watchable and may be of interest. Please don't send comments about audio quality and closer filming, we are already aware that we have room to improve both and are in the process of doing so, but the lighting, p...

Rolex Watch Service - 16233 Worn until it fell off the wrist
มุมมอง 22K2 ปีที่แล้ว
The restoration of a Two Tone Oyster Perpetual Datejust. It has been approximately 18 years since the last service. We give it some much needed care to take it from abandoned in a draw to full working order as a daily wearer.
8:32 Interesting! Wristwatch Revival never oils the escape wheel teeth which I find a bit strange. I assume each watchmaker has their own opinion regarding this?
Great video! So interesting to see "my watch" taken apart and put back together! Thanks for the upload.
Thank you for the video. Excellent details and quality. My Rolex Explorer I 39mm just stopped working. I purchased it in the summer of 2018 from my local AD. It got more wrist time at the beginning, but in the last two years, I have worn it less, like 2x per month. I’ve taken good care of the watch and it’s still looks new but without babying it. This was supposed to be a workhorse, forever watch produced and created to the highest standards, not a very expensive paper weight. I’ve contacted the repair center, and of course they want me to bring it in to have it looked at. Can you explain what could be going on and what should I expect as far as repairs, service and cost? Also, is there anything I need to tell the repair center to do specifically or not to do…? Thank you very much.
Thank you for excellent video and explanation!
nice one, keep it coming bro
Great work!
Cool video. I don't recall seeing a movement quite that filthy for a long time, and I have never seen a pinion tooth break like that.I suppose it's a testament to the rest of the movement that everything else was still able to run long enough to get to the point of weakening the pinion tooth
I would be curious to hear your take on 2824, SW-200 (either brand's original, -1 or -2 variants) and their clones' handwinding issues. I have 4 watches, one with a 2824-2 (Damasko DS-30) and three with SW-200-1s (Tudor BB36, 2 Oris) and ALL of them spin the rotor like a top if handwound and I have only ever handwound them to see if the issue was there and sure enough, it was. I've sworn off that movement for this exact reason, though shaking or wearing them winds them just fine and there are no other issues, but I'm not paying $1k+ for a watch with a movement that can't be handwound while I have to stand there like an idiot doing the Seiko Shuffle. Its staggering to me that neither ETA nor Sellita are able to resolve it though honestly why would they, the movement _somehow_ has a good reputation even though its an antiquated POS and its being thrown in everything from $500 microbrands to $50k Ressence's. This Rolex's issue reminded me of it and what I wonder is if you work on those do you see that a lot and what you think about that as a watchmaker?
The fact that you have to replace the entire automatic winding assembly just because the rotor bearing is worn seems to be a bit of an engineering oversight by whatever company made the movement for rolex. It is a profitable oversight for rolex though; no surprise there.
The reversers also wear and need replacement and as you can see from this movement things like pinions can wear and break too over time. There is a lot of load applied at this end of the train so it's not surprising things will eventually fail. Replacing the assembly is a good solution in this case but you can just rivet in a new post if preferred. Replacing just this assembly after 20 plus years to restore perfect working order is actually quite reasonable in my mind. Not many products last that length of time in a throw away society.
That's a swell watch. Wish I could feel one, bet the weight is perfect for an 8" wrist
I love watches so much I now own all watch tools except hands puller and hand put them back on tool with..lol😂 I have used seiko (weight pendulums) on two different seiko watches (that broke off) in the watch and the balance spring on the one when the spring couldn't be fixed or regulated on my Pepsi... no one to service them in my area...and they both run beautifully...
Lovely job 👏 👌 i like that some of us actually use our tool watches as intended
Im guessing if a watch fails the wet test its a complete disassembly and then into some kind of dryer?
They always pass. By the time we test the case it has all new seals, waterproof grease and is tightly sealed. We also test the empty case first earlier in the service so we are pretty much certain it will pass by the time the movement is inside. The final test is more of a formality than anything. We usually do it for the customer to see so they know we have sealed it properly.
Excellent footage! Forget the haters, please keep sharing this work for us watch lovers and customers!
Great video! thanks for sharing
I wonder who serviced the watch prior to this video.
A GMT isn't rated for 300m like you mention in the beginning, but 100m.
My God, that bracelet was mankyb🤢🤮
Great video. Your stainless tweezers...what are they. They're nice and thick.
Nice Video! Like the other commentor, I'm also curious why only Rolex seems to have that rotor pivot problem.
Its definitely not only Rolex, we just work on a lot of Rolex watches. Rolex movements are great. In fact when Rolex's leave our workshop we give a 2 year warranty. For most other movements it's 1 year warranty, this is because Rolex movements are so reliable.
Awesome that you're doing more videos. Thanks! I do have one question, is it more or less common to have that rotor issue on older Rolexes? I have a 16610 Sub and I have never noticed any issue with the rotor, in fact I've never noticed the rotor at all. I did just have it serviced but they mentioned nothing of that. Thanks again!
The rotor fault can happen, you have to bear in mind two things though, 1, we see a lot of watches that have never had any attention and they are with us because the owner has noticed they aren't winding fully. 2, we are only featuring the watches on TH-cam that have visible faults as they make more interesting videos. There are other watches coming into the workshop without any issues and thousands more on peoples wrists with no issues. If yours has been serviced and they didn't find a fault, there is no need to worry about it. The 3135 movement which is likely in your watch is one of the best movements ever made if not the best.
nice
the owner must be scruffy as f, disgusting
I think saying the watch missed few services is an exauration, this is a relatively new model, and Rolex recommends a 10 year service interval. However, it also depends on the wearer, which in this case seems a bit careless. Although the watch case and bracelet are relatively in good condition, the watch is really dirty, and this can be easily cleaned by the owner by using soft teeth brush, soap, and clean water. As for movement condition, the owner most probably wore his watch in a very rough manner without paying too much attention to early signs of problem. Having said that, fact is Rolex Service Center will change every worn part in the movement without charging extra and give you 2 year international warranty in addition to changing gaskets and doing complementary polishing. As for other parts, like crwon crystal, hands, dials ...etc these are changed for a fee. Econmically, only service your watch when you start noticing a problem with its accureacy, power reserve, and / or any other mechanical problem that you may face (pressure test every 2 years). You will save alot of money.
This model was introduced in 2007 so they can be as much as 17 years old. All mechanisms need fresh oil and cleaning. Rolex movements are great and their service centres are second to none. I personally would never leave a watch over 10 years without service, but it is up to each owner. It is definitely true that with a good clean and replacement parts they are as good as new but I personally don't like to wear them until they get to that stage. As someone who works in the industry and has personally worked on hundreds if not thousands of watches, I would definitely say missing service windows is a false economy. I have seen repair quotes from some major brands that would make your eyes water.
@cerberuswatches7287 Different schools of thoughts, I will service a watch when it needs to be serviced and not before as long as the overall condition is good and timegraph readings (amplitude) does not show any problem and power saving is within spec (Accuracy and beat error can be adjusted without the need for servicng).
Very enjoyable, thank you for posting.
So great to see you back! I hope you do continue to provide more videos. The way you guys are improving the videos with new cameras and audio will make your videos amongst the best. Well done!
Thank you! Will do!
More in depth is always good.....
I agree but as we very often work on the same calibres I am trying to avoid repeating the same processes in every video and show some variety. On the more drastic restorations I will produce longer videos showing more in depth.
hey hey another video! I'd almost forgotten about you guys, but another great video. Please don't stop just because wankers are in the world - just ignore them. Plenty decent folks around who can give constructive comments on cameras.
Thanks for the kind comments, we'll keep making them
Finally another video. Please never stop uploading videos, these are some of the best. Edit: ugh you need a hazmat suit to work on this one. Gross!
Thanks for the kind comments. We'll keep going. We have an Air King coming up that was even dirtier. Ill upload that over the weekend.
How do I find out about watch servicing with you?
you can contact us on our site cerberuswatchmaking.com
How long has this watch been unserviced? thanks
It was unserviced since new, we actually filmed this a while ago so I cant remember the exact year of the watch but it would have missed at least 2 services to cause that wear.
@@cerberuswatches7287 thanks a lot! appreciate your videos!
Can someone tell me what the PAM number this model is please?
Quite sure it is a PAM111
I owned 16233 model with diamonds point. Take care look like new with blue venegette dial. Really appreciate Rolex model

More content guys! This is great!
I enjoyed watching this. It's quite relaxing.
How do I know the names of the spare parts
Thanks so much for this amazing video. Skilled professionals like you simply amaze me. I wonder what your thoughts are on the new panerai in house auto p9010. Cheers
Great restoration! Might wanna consider zooming in some more next time so we can see the finer details of the movement 🙏
I have the same watch, same issue I think! Ive emailed. Hope you can help
Fascinating to watch to see what’s inside such a beautiful watch, great work
The patience this man has is unbelievable.
Oh by the way this was a great video thank you so much.
Talking about embarrassment my Rolex two tone date just is 35 years old and it has never been cleaned. Taking in for a cleaning this week.
I love seeing a really nice watch with years of wear. Someone enjoyed that watch. Good for them.
BS
Amazing
Nice work on that Explorer, my favourite Rolex ever. Nice to see that you're wearing a Tudor BB (blue bezel?) . I own a BB Black (41. mm) and the BB GMT and I'm really happy with both after more than two years of wear. Many thanks for the video.
Great watch!
