Good luck with the Texas Sweets. Still ain't gonna be a Vidalia.
@@charlesdavenport2543 agreed. But they will still sell well here.
Packed with inspiration. As soon as it cools down a bit here I plan to build another greenhouse, RDWC ( 2 pools 12m x 3m ) with floating rafts just for lettuce, and the old NFT greenhouse (100 x 3 meters channels) will grow larger leafy greens. I've tried Brussel sprouts but it never gets cold enough for them to finish off. love the channel washer.. we only wash 20 channels a week but yes that would save a lot of time. thanks mate.....
It's amazing that most people don't know how much is involved so they can eat.
What kind of pump do you use?
@@sunnyjones682 each rack/side has an alpine 8500 gal per hour submersible pump. So there are 2 in the nft reservoir. The distribution riser valves run about 1/2 open with this double pump setup. I could run it all on one pump but it would be maxed and I would have a single point of failure. A crossover valve at the reservoir enables running both sides from either pump in a failure.
Looks like you have a draft. Becky's pants legs were shaking.
I totally understand how life gets in the way. Started in Nashville 3 years ago and we're still in North Alabama. I cringe every time the phone rings. Thinking what is it now?
Good stuff mate 😊

Why the cups? I thought you didn’t need them in the NFT channels.
@@robindevellen7038 it depends on which media plugs you use along with the opening in the lids.

That's Georgia people for ya. I've raced riding lawnmowers in the past. If it moves, we'll race it!
update the mobile hydroponic trailer. do you plan to add grow lights?
Wheeler Lake dropped about 6" yesterday. Guess we'll get about a foot coming down the river from Chattanooga and east Tennessee in the next few days.
I emptied greenhouse #1 last week, 80 bato's, some were over 6 months old and 8 to 9 meters in length, but none of my bato's had roots coming out of the bottom of the buckets, the buckets were packed solid with roots, Perlite is replaced after each crop, the old perlite is mixed with potting mix for indoor plants, and I even mixed a few hundred litres into the cement mixer...
I don't know how youtube's algorithm brought me here But very informative. I never knew about these things!
@@RubenAndK thanks for watching and commenting. 👍
Gotta make racks and have at least 4 shelves so you can expand vertically. also how to manage the water and other things moving around when the trailer is in motion. Companies already produce green house shipping containers ready to grow, what would the benefits of having it on a trailer be?
@@Sarlekos thanks for the suggestions. We have schools and other venues/events wanting us to bring the “greenhouse” to their location for education purposes.
@@steveale0711 ah that makes sense. I’m all for making hydroponics more popular, really cool to see in person how much less water and nutrients they require since there’s no runoff

Yes, we have a portable heater we can use on cold days. Good comment.
Good morning Sir , can you tell me the dimensions the NFT you are using in this video please . Thanks in advance
@@terrytriton6387 the channels are 12’ long with 18 holes. The channels are the 3.75” width. Our holes are round and take the 2” netpots. Later designs went with square holes and you put the media cubes directly in the channel.
Great video, recently started a hydroponic farm based in the Caribbean. What packaging works best after you harvest
@@tch4133 for lettuce we use boxes but insert a plastic liner then fold over the top of the liner. We do 24 heads to a case. After harvest they go into a cooler then delivery.
Getting projects finished! I'm so jealous. I've only got about 4 more pages left! (College Rule notebook).
lol. I feel your pain. Becky and I were just talking at dinner and she says “I watched the video and we need to paint the ceiling”. 😂. It’s not finished I guess.
It is finished now!!!😂😂 Couldn’t leave it halfway done….It was indeed time consuming and a bit of a struggle making my way under the wires etc to get to all of the areas. As per usual, nothing is truly simple when it comes to BOATS is it😮😮😮😂😂😂Gotta Love it though ❤❤❤❤❤
@@beckyalexander5196 Voltaren creme and B.C. powders are my "next day" go to.
As soon as i heard "edge of the..." Knew right where it was going 😂 Hope it didn't give you too much of a hard time.
It took a couple hours and a good set of bolt cutters. Luckily it didn’t damage the tiller.
Looks good, I have a few questions. How far are your lettuce spaced apart? And is that 4" PVC at the end of the NFT channels? Did you use silicone or PVC cement to join the end caps and elbows? Thanks
There are 18 holes in a 12’ channel. So they are about 8” apart down the channel. The drain pipe is 4” diameter. The channels can fit into the drain at different widths but most of the drain holes are on 6” spacing. The end caps are nsf pvc glued. We add some glue occasionally after cleaning to insure we don’t develop any pinhole or hairline crack leaks at the drain end cap. The 45 degree elbows are not glued on, they are just hand fitted. Thanks for following our channel, hope this answers all your questions.
Oh nooo!! But thanks for the info🙂🙂🙂
We gave up on finding a washer/dryer unit. Now we keep a jar of quarters on the shelf.
What system is this?
It is identical to crop king but has no markings. It was in the used greenhouse that we bought, dismantled and moved to our farm. Thanks for watching. Message if you have any other questions.
Who would do a terrible thing like that!
It was a prior renter of the ground. They missed a panel in their clean up. We got it out and no damage but it took about 2.5 hours to get it cleared out of the equipment.
I’ve got the same system and we are just getting ready to set it up. I’ll be following along watching.
Thanks for following. There are several videos on the system in the farming playlist.
It's not in any manual, but bilge work will require a tube of muscle cream and a bottle of ibuprofen. Especially after age 60.
I did invest in a good set of gel knee pads which helps tremendously.
Just use white roofs instead they are way more effective at keeping the surface cold, then spraying water on a roof that is not white but it is another colour. Having white roofs keeps the temperature cooler because it reflects sunlight heat back to space.
Working in the bilge is not being a contortionist, it's called boat yoga.

New to channel, where did you get your greenhouse and hydroponics channels, nice video
Thanks for following us! I looked at a few abandoned greenhouses locally. I knew of this one which had been bought out so the buying company effectively bought the customers this business had built up in the ATL market. They consolidated the operations into their own infrastructure and left these abandoned. They wanted it gone so they could sell the real estate. We made an offer for pennies on the dollar of new. It had all the nft systems still in it.
@@steveale0711 Thanks
Hey you guys , where did you get the grow channels? Looking to start doing hydroponics
Hi! These were in the used greenhouse we purchased and moved to our farm. These appear to be crop king channels. There were some others that looked like the ones on amhydro. But the UV made those brittle over the years and they would break or crack when moving. Looks like none of them are cheap.
@@steveale0711 that’s what it looks like to me , that’s a cool greenhouse good luck with it you guys should do good , thanks for getting back to me .
My only complaint has been with very fine round seeds. It likes to grind up kohlrabi seeds into a meal cracking each seed until 3-4 pieces! Not good hot germinating! It has performed flawlessly with corn, peas, carrots, buckwheat and rye…. It even handled home harvested carrot seeds that still had burrs on the seeds either no problems. I might try something like this.
so just thinking about your modification.... What if you used 2 small nuts as jam nuts under the lid. That way you could set the friction loose on actual mechanism. Then you could just snug the peanut butter lid just enough to hold plate and it wouldn't be responsible in adding friction to the gear mechanism. Cool video
Good suggestion! So far it’s working pretty well with just the wingnut and washer. Now in season 2 using it. Planted about 1000 bed feet last week of a variety of seeds with no issues.
Hi,love the videos! How big is the greenhouse ?
Each bay is 30’x140’. It’s gutter connected so it’s 60x140 single space. That is about 8,400 square feet.
@@steveale0711 thank you for sharing
Your EC isn’t too high pH should be 5.8 -6.2 I would cover your reservoir with a dark lid of some sort. Love the green house! Chuck
Thanks! We did cover it. This was a first step setup. We now have in ground reservoirs and intellidose controllers. Appreciate you watching our channel!
LOVE the Tennessee River! A side trip to Chattanooga, and even further to Knoxville, is such a great addition to the Loop route!
Part of your prep for the Loop should include building a box for Becky to stand on.
This is Becky!! And I agree 🙂🤪🤪🙂Thank you for making him aware of that😂😂And thanks for following us. Time is getting short and I still have oh so much to learn but getting better day by day. Am I a bit nervous, well maybe but I am in 100 percent 🛥️🛟🚦
Yeah Charles…thanks for adding another “to do” for my list. 😂😂😂
Thanks for sharing 👍.
Appreciate you following our channel!
That looks like a lot of hard work. Is it just you and Becky?
We had my mom and sister seeding one day. Another day a guy who works with us came and seeded about 6 hours. Becky and I seeded those days plus one additional. I now know how much labor is in each tray, good news is going forward we can labor hire all the seeding and still have a decent net in the effort.
I don't know how you're ever going to do the Loop. You've got more irons in the fire than anyone I follow.
lol. Yeah I feel it. Trying to find our farm manager. Winter won’t be a problem but I have to have that person in place for the summer if we are going to do the Great Lakes.
I would try gluing a metal washer to each plate.
😂i have an old earth way 101 planter. I got mine in 1983. Then only problem i have had with mine is with the okra plate. Round seeds would try to get under the plate and frame. I cleaned the inside of hopper and the back of seed then put paste wax on both surfaces. Now works great. My plate is white.
