What a beautiful memory. So sorry for your Dad's passing.
Awesome video, Kenneth! Y'all were like Staee Park Pioneers"! ha! ha! And was that an old Rambler Nash, in the opening footage?
Wish I still had them
Great stuff, Kenneth! So many things reminded me of how our family was, back then.
Beautiful story .. very warm memories .. cherish those memories.. you honored your father wonderfully . I’m sorry for your dad’s passing .. Lionel trains especially o gauge will always have a special place in my heart as like many .. today as in yesteryear I still run those old trains with a gleam and great memories .. still have all my stuff and continue to add to this very day . True passion never fades
Do you know what happened to the Hargrove Road?
Great video! You had the trains I longed for but never got. These weren’t cheap trains.
I know of only one batch of "cheap trains" from my Christmas stuff. My dad's sister worked in the PX at Ellington Field AFB outside, tipped my father off to Lionel extruded/streamlined baggage cars for $4 apiece. Dad got me four. Our Santa Fe Super Chief had more baggage cars than the real train!
Love the times
Outstanding! Thanks for sharing! Those were the days! Pax Domini Sit Semper Vobiscum.
Thank You Happy Holliday's
This was great. Thank you for sharing!
Absolutely wonderful I was a child in the fifties.I especially enjoyed seeing your trains running. I still have my lionel from when I was a child.
Breaks my heart to see those trains sold. Your mom more than likely sold them because they reminded her of your dad. Glad you have these memories. Thanks for sharing them.
Tengo uno
Great Video! Beautiful presentation Sir. Thankfully, you have great memories of your family recorded on film, and now in the "cloud." Thank you for sharing. I still have my TYCO Trains from the late 60s and early 70s, plus the TYCO Steel Hauler set I bought in 1981 to add to the collection. I also still have my Hot Wheels cars an sets from 1968 and after, until about 1973.
I believe all these old trains carry some kind of story. But rarely do we get to know that story when we just buy a locomotive off of Ebay or something. What you have here is special; thank you for sharing! I hope someday in the future you'll get to see Mr. Anthony once more.
Of all the accessories my brother's train set had, the yard man with the lantern who came out when the train passed and the lantern lit up from a light underneath it was my favorite thing.
We had that exact same carpet, wool, lasted for decades! My brother's Lionel Trains, loved 'em then and still do!
My compliments. Excellent production .Your dad other family members as well as Joshua Lionel Cowen would be proud. Have you read the history of Lionel ?
My dad started bringing home model train magazines in 1951, and I ended up subscribing to 50+ years worth, so I have read many articles on Lionel history. I think one specific book about Cowen, but I don't remember specifically. Thanks for commenting.
It is a shame model trains are waning in popularity
Not really, they are becoming popular again due to the Pandemic
Reply to Abel G. The Tule Lake lift bridge, the track over it and the nearby interchange yard are gone. A new much large yard has been built on north side of ship channel and several miles west of Tule Lake bridge location. I am not exactly sure how TexMex/ KCS route traffic to and from north side of Port...
Are any of the tracks in these scenes now abandoned?
7:12 I always end my Christmas layout videos with a shot like that, to honor the reason for the holiday...
...love the Texas Mexican and the Southern Pacific and Mr. Anthony's voice,...please make more videos
just ran across this video searching you tube. Man does this remind me of my childhood my family and I went every summer to Gander state Park from 1959 to 1972. Thanks for bring back such fond memories.
That’s so wonderful. Takes me back when Christmas was so special. Thanks.
I miss the late 90s and early 2000s. Better times that will never come back.
Well done...
you had the christmas' many children dream of. sorry all the trains were sold ,but there are ample original replacements these days on ebay if you wanted to re-create what you had.again you got to live the childhood dream.
Kenneth Anthony, Sorry for the loss of your Dad. Both you Dad & Yourself are very creative! The additional baggage cars mirror the prototype railroads practice , in the 1960s, of incorporating more mail & express cars into passenger trains. I did some filming of my HO layout with my Dad's Super 8 movie camera back in the 1970s. What scale is your " Elder Pike " ?
Petemonster62 asked about my present "Elderpike" layout. It is N scale Santa Fe in island seaport of Galveston, Texas. Past N layouts: Santa Fe in piney woods of East Texas, Santa Fe in generic southwestern desert, generic railroad in Colorado mountain scene, Navy blimp station on-base railroad.
@@kennethanthony7125 Those are some unique ideas for model railroad layout settings!
My "elder pike" is N scale, as was my "Santa Fe in the East Texas Piney Woods" I operated 1980-2005.
That is incredible! Thanks for sharing.
What a great way to honor your father. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I just started a layout this year with my fathers’ tinplate trains from the 1920s and 1930s. It makes me feel like he is still with us.
Mr Anthony, that was such a great collection of your home movies. I can tell that your dad really loved his family. Thanks for sharing!
Very cool
great video
Thank you for sharing this really special home movie. Warm regards, Donny
Wow, what a GREAT video of a time long passed and the trains. It appears the house and tracks are still there after all this time. Thanks for sharing your memories, as they also brought back memories of my own magical time at Christmas.
Very nice video, but a bittersweet story. I'm sorry for your loss even though it was long ago. I'm sure it was tough on two young boys. Did you ever get back into model trains or did you go on to be an actor? Thank you for sharing your story.
Never much interested in being an actor. Wanted to direct & produce. About age 16 or 17, started into HO trains, and when moved away from home at age 21, into N. Built 8 or 10 N layouts, 2 featured in "Model Railroader". Now building "Elderpike" for an old man (me), which I can operate from wheelchair if necessary. 18 years as TV news cameraman, reporter, editor. 20 more years as producer of local TV commercials. And made many short "fun" films. See "The Notorious Norton Brothers" on TH-cam.
Wow that is very interesting. Thank you for the bio. I see a lot of videos and wonder what happened to people afterwards. I should have guessed you would be into production rather than acting when you said you had made the sci-fi movie, LOL. My childhood was similar with trains. My father had an HO layout before i was born, so i started with HO and had N in my early 20's. When my son was born my father gave him a Lionel set, so we have been putting it up at Christmas ever since adding to it as we go. My father passed away last year so putting up the layout has even more meaning now. I've subscribed to MR throughout the years, so I've probably seen one of your layouts in it. I was inspired to make my N scale layout by an article in MR. I never heard of an "Elderpike" but now i know. Hopefully you'll never need the wheelchair aspect of your layout, but it's good to plan ahead. I will be sure to check out your other TH-cam channel. Thank you for the interaction and Merry Christmas to you and your family.
god bless you kenneth your really a great man i hope you have a great chirstmas my friend i do have most of the trains you show in the video 1950 trains only on my layout i have so many n scale trains to lost count haha but i think about 100 engines but the lionels just pull me in my uncle got me going on that hes gone now he was a great guy every time i run the trains it reminds of him i want him to live on in my mind the trains do that
I got back into trains from age 17-19, but then movie-making and college took over. Became a TV reporter/newsreel photographer for 18 years and producer of TV commercials for 20 more- at the same TV station, And made my own "movies." nd I have been doing N scale trains since 1969.
Incredibly beautiful video, Anthony! I was with my family at Garner through the same time frame - though a *bit* older than me, those kids could be from our family, too. See nickwallingford.com/photos for a few of our family slides. Who knows? We may have met way back when! Nick Wallingford nick@wallingford.nz
It has been a very long time since I have seen a Nash . Kenneth , probably most people have never seen a Nash like your family drove .
Loved those days. Most fun a guy could have in the summer. Dancing the night away at the pavilion. Swimming all day in the Frio river. Camping out for days.
