Hillbilly Trail Riders
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 23 พ.ค. 2021
The Hillbilly Trail Riders are a few old men who get together occasionally to ride some of the trails in Virginia, West Virginia and Kentucky...or wherever else they may take a hankerin' to go!
The videos are generally of blue or black trails but one or two of the guys may get to feelin' a little frisky and try a double black sometimes.

The Hillbillies First Ride In 5 Months!
มุมมอง 5592 ปีที่แล้ว
Our first ride since March 30 which was the day that our riding buddy, brother and brother-in-law Howard Smith went into the hospital having memory problems. Howard never made it back home as problems snowballed and he passed away on June 24th. This ride was bittersweet as we were thinking of him.

The 501 - Ridgeview / Coal Canyon Connector - Spearhead Trails

The HTR and truancy suspect Steven wander the trails of Ridgeview and Coal Canyon trying to escape the law while wondering why 65 (CC) is black and 30 (CC) is blue!
Trail 25 - Ridgeview - Spearhead Trails
มุมมอง 1.1K2 ปีที่แล้ว
The HTR take a leisurely ride on blue trail 25 at Ridgeview on a nice early spring day. We ran upon a 5' blacksnake basking in the sun and several deer and turkeys along the way. We had Steven along for this ride and you can hear him getting excited about the snake around the 8:20 mark. Near the end of 25 we for whatever reason shot off onto trail 7 which is a connector back to the main trail, ...

A couple of the HTRs stir up some dust on blue trail 37 and splash through the mud on green trail 9 at the Ridgeview trail system. The temp this day approached the 80 degree mark, not bad for the end of March!

Riding The 50s - Mountain View - Spearhead Trails *(as it turned out this was Howard's last ride)
มุมมอง 1.4K2 ปีที่แล้ว
The HTR cruise around on the 50s numbered trails at Mountain View. These black trails don't appear to be ridden a whole big lot, possibly due to them not showing on the hard-copy maps. The online maps show these trails but can be a little confusing. Overall some real good riding! *Howard Smith, who was driving the 4 seat Honda Talon, went into the hospital on March 30, just a couple weeks after...

Uhhhh. Looks intense.......
Those look like some steep hills. Are they doable on a 4 wheeler.
Nice! I'd love to have a side by side. Do they have trails that are wide enough for Jeeps?
Black Mountain is fairly well known for having rock crawling and Jeep trails although some of the trails in this particular video may not be wide enough.
@@HillbillyTrailRiders Thanks!
I miss seeing quads everywhere. I don’t miss the ride of a straight axle Honda 😊
LOL, you got that right!
Awesome trail took on a atv 2023 let's go!!! Love the Hatfield trails always a good time no trails like this in Michigan lol
I see how the river gets muddy.
I've been to Black mt at least a dozen times and cannot remember this trail. What number trail is it? Or what is it branch off from. Thanks enjoyed watching your vidio.
It is near Little Stadium...runs off trail 12 there around Frankenstein.
Where did you stay at. Was it close to the trail head. Excellent video.
We all live nearby, however, there is a campground right at the foot of the trailhead at Leeman Field in Pennington Gap. r.search.yahoo.com/_ylt=AwrFGIaLBINjhfkgiZJXNyoA;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzIEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny/RV=2/RE=1669559563/RO=10/RU=https%3a%2f%2fvirginiacampgrounds.com%2fcampgrounds%2fleeman-field-rv-park%2f/RK=2/RS=FCkOjtH8qRGXmzu2_S2j4Vyre9I-
There is time this is the trail running that is needed. Nice. Good camera work.
That’s the best shape I’ve seen 24 in a long time.
So sorry for your loss . Im sure he will still be riding with you all in spirit every time your out riding your sxs !
Thanks! Yes, we miss him greatly and think of him every time we ride. It is so very different to not hear him on the radio hollering to take the black trails! He was an adrenaline junkie!
I like the commentary added to the video. Russell CO here. Keep up the good work!
Sorry for your loss you’ll meet him again one day hopefully if y’all need anything let me know
Thanks bud! Much appreciated!
Rode this trail going the other direction in 2018, very slick and muddy on the steep grades.
Yep, that trail is interesting on rainy days!
Sorry for your loss from a Russell Co neighbor!
Thank you
Sorry for your loss . A good friend is hard to find and harder too let go.
Thank you
Camera's never do it justice! lol. Beautiful trails, nice video thanks.
What were the trail numbers on the vidio?
Best I recall, those were mostly the blue trails on the Haysi end of the trail system at the beginning and then trail 25 towards the end of the video.
I want to ride this trail. Some videos say... oh it's steeper than it looks, but you don't really believe it. This one however, towards the 3/4 part, is like... holy cow.! That's steep.! I will be heading down there on the 20th of August. Riding on ATVs looking for more difficult trails than the general wide easy side by side trails. But this looks interesting.
I really miss those creek bottom trails.
In the late 80’s he had a Yamaha Warrior before moving up to a Banshee. He would ride up and down the road and swear the front wheels would never touch the ground. Great times.
Yep, Howard was an adrenaline junkie for sure! Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
Thanks for posting...looks like good cruising trails.
Check out trail 80 if you are looking for another good black trail there. We have done 2 videos on that trail and it's a pretty good one!
The first part of 96 is the best lol
Awesome video! What kind of action camera you using? The video looks very smooth with very little wind noise!
Thanks! The cameras are a GoPro 8 looking back at the Polaris and a GoPro 10 looking forward at the RMax.
Heard there was a fatality this past week on 21 . I don’t see where that could happen!! Now my old lady is scared for our memorial trip lol
21 is a nice long easy trail with one or two blue spots. I hadn't heard about the fatality. I noticed on the latest map that trail 22 is missing. If it is closed that eliminates a nice loop back up to 45 and 26.
Thanks for sharing great job 👏 🙏
Looks great
It only gets difficult when you meet someone coming from other way.
Yeah Spearhead needs to get there stuff together and open up these closed trails. Pocahontas has trails that have been closed for over 3 yrs !! I support and buy a permit but if trails are not opened next year I will not come back. Coal Canyon was good liked it, but not going to buy a permit for one system. Thanks for posting !!
Sweet rides guys!
Is 93 on the current map? I see 91, 92, 94, and 95. Great video!
93 is on the southern end of 26 on the St. Paul side. It may be listed as 93c on the map. If you hit 26 off of 1 and go down the hill, across the stream and start back uphill a little, 93 will shoot uphill to the left. Be aware that around the stream there are a couple signs that say 93...which I assume at one time led folks to ride the stream. Don't look like that particular part of 93 has been ridden in a long time though.
@@HillbillyTrailRiders Thanks!
Nice video. We rode Stone Mountain for the first time this past fall and really enjoyed it. The overlooks are killer. It’s a Shane more people don’t ride and experience that trail system.
That's very true, just watching the videos makes me realize how much I missed while riding! The views were awesome...even on a rainy, foggy day!
That’s a beautiful trail. Where is the trailhead located in Pennington Gap and can you view Martin’s fork lake on the Ky side?
It is at Leeman Field which is on US Hwy 421 just as you are leaving Pennington Gap headed towards Harlan KY. I don't think Martin's Fork is visible from this trail. It is more down towards the Rose Hill VA mountains. www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1KHs92M7rAYGytyUGN0CN71Bx_h4z0PU0&ouid=0&ll=36.78653875411537%2C-83.00371700000001&z=12
Nice trail like the view thanks for the video
Thanks Bob! Appreciate your comments!
That’s my favorite of all the Spearhead trails. You did an awesome job capturing it. It’s definitely got the most hardcore trail opportunities. I used to do all of them when it first opened. They’ve either gotten more difficult or my front brain lobe finally developed. 😂
Is that waterfall on bear wallow, if so where
The waterfall is on trail 13 on Rockhouse...just off trail 33.
Next to the tree 🌳, you know that one.
It's not hard. Nothing at Hatfields is hard. But it's fun!
Love the music and the trail
21 looks awesome. Did you take 22 then
Yes, the end of this video is actually not the end of 21...but it does lead on into 22. We then ran 22 to 45, 26, etc.
@@HillbillyTrailRiders I figured. Isn't there a bridge that connects 21 to 22. Want to hit this in the spring. Didn't get a chance to in the fall.
We hit 21 just a 100 yards or so from the Rockhouse trailhead in Man and then about half an hour later 21 runs into a short secondary road which leads into 22. So...we never hit a bridge. There is one, a CSX converted to ATV bridge, just a hop on down the road from the trailhead to the left on past the high school there which helps you stay off the 2-lane a short distance if you elect to go that way. If we go into town we always go to the right, towards Wendys.
@@HillbillyTrailRiders thank you
Awsome trails nice video thanks .
My favorite system
Nice video. I like to see some of the easier trails. Going in the spring.
Beautiful spot to ride eh What kinda side by side ?
Yep, awesome scenery! The SxS with the camera is a Yamaha Rmax, the 4 seater is a Honda Talon and the one out front is a Polaris RZR XP 1000.
Now. That's a trail. Nice work. 👍🏻
How do you like the Rmax. Excellent video.
Thanks! I love the Rmax so far! I've had it 5 months. Getting close to 1000 miles on it.
Good job we ride those often thanks
Where is this?
The Mountainview system trailheads are in Coeburn and St. Paul VA.
