I love JDM Watches! This all started a few years ago when I was interviewed and then rejected by a Rolex authorized dealer to buy a watch despite me having the cash (and arguably the status). After an angry foray into reps, I embarked upon the rabbit hole that is Japanese Domestic Market only watches. They save the best for Japan!

Seiko SBTM323 with Clasp Upgrade

This watch is nearly perfect but in typical Seiko style, a few things let it down. Bracelet and end links are a low point. Thankfully, the latter is not too hard to correct. The style is conservative but classy.

Casio Oceanus OCW-T200. The watch that started it all for me! One year review.

What a watch. This got me into JDM watches and ever since, I've been addicted. So much to this watch. Although every watch has it's inevitable negatives, in my opinion the positives far outweigh any cons.
can you tell the dimensions of the clasp?
18mm. Here is thread on how I changed the clasp. www.watchuseek.com/threads/sbtm-323-clasp-ubgrade.5589463/ It was a bit of an effort. I had to invert the last links to fit onto the clasp to make it work. Hope this helps.
This watch's AR doesn't seem as good as SBTM. Is that true?
The SBTM AR quality is very good, make no mistake, but it has a cartoonish exaggerated feel to it. The Citizen just looks like an exceptional well made luxury watch. Put it this way, the Citizen is better than my Grand Seiko's AR and therefore better than most watches out there. I never feel like it needs more AR. Hope this helps.
@ Thanks
The NB1050 has an almost identical design. Beautiful.
Similar design but this is GS quality
This is a great watch but a terrible bracelet. I have that same bracelet on the NB1050. Citizen ahould release a better bracelet for this exceptional watch and not this uncomfortable junk of a bracelet.
I personally don't think it's that bad. I've learnt the system to get a good fit which is to consider that two half link are about 1 and 1/2 full links. The build quality I reckon is very good. Although Grand Seiko don't have a good reputation for their bracelet, this Citizen bracelet is better in my opinion.
@@JDMWatchManiaI absolutely think that this is one of the best watches out there and Citizen represents the finest watch technology out there. I hope to have a "The" in my collection one day.
This is a beautiful watch. Have the same since last Monday and love it.
Thanks for this great video! How would you say the material build quality and feel compares to the AQ1000 that you have? Is it virtually identical? It is funny how you have the AQ1000-66A and I have the AQ1000-58A and I was just looking into getting a black dial watch! I am torn between the one featured in the video and the Grand Seiko SBGX261.
Ha! Because I can't make my mind up, I have the AQ1000, AQ4080 and the SBGX263! Build quality between the AQ1000 and AQ4080 would have been the same when both were brand new I presume. Unfortunately, my AQ1000 is pretty scratched up. As the AQ4080 is basically brand new, the polishing really pops and it looks like it is in a different quality league. I think the hand finishing is better on the AQ4080 though. Thanks for watching.
@ Thanks for the reply! That would make sense, that the duratech coating evolved over time to become better, and the fact that they use this is also a big advantage of The Citizen I think. It’s really cool that you also have the SBGX263! I saw in your new video that you don’t really think it is all that different from the AQ4080 in quality. Still, if you had mention differences in finishing/overall feel, what would they be? Also, which feels more comfortable to wear and which is more “stable” on the wrist? I tend to wear my watches on the looser side, and I feel like the overall “balance” of the watch matters in how often it accidentally slides forward. Furthermore, I know the thinness sizes of both, but which one “feels” thinner on the wrist? Lastly, is it true that the GS bracelet is more substantial and of higher quality than the AQ4080? Thanks so much in advance!
@@RA-gs8ye They both wear very similar as far as thinness on the wrist is concerned. The GS has slightly more "pop" but I think most of that is the champagne dial as opposed to the black of the AQ4080. Overall, the finishing on the Citizen is similar or maybe slightly better than the GS. Comfort and stability is also identical in my mind and both the cases feel similar in weight. As far as the bracelet is concerned, I prefer the Citizen. It has the much maligned pin and collar system which is much easier to size in comparison to the GS tiny screw system which is a real hassle. The Citizen also has slightly thinner links and has a slight taper which I prefer. Hope this helps. Thanks again for watching.
@@JDMWatchManiathanks a lot for the detailed reply!
I appreciate this watch. It appeals to the geek in me. After thinking about it, though, it has more in common with the Apple Watch to me which isn't a bad thing, just different. I hope it still brings you joy.
Are all links removable?
No. Only about 8 closest to the clasp.
Nice video mate - dont suppose you own any G Shocks?
Nope. I did once upon a time though. My age and lack of activity is best suited to a traditional 3 hander. Thanks for watching.
Another informative video mate 👍
Thanks 👍
Enjoyed the video mate, and i appreciate the Aussie perspective 🇦🇺
Glad you enjoyed it
I purchased this a few months ago. This is literally the most underrated watch right now.
Cool
Fantastic watch! I have the 58A, it looks extremely similar. I love the bracelet too, but I ended up switching it out for a leather strap because I tend to get wrist pain from bracelets sadly.
Thanks for watching. Many of the AQ1000's sold on Japanese sites are in fact the 66A though they are labelled 58A. I believe the 58A has no lume and the 66A has luminous markers and hands.
@@JDMWatchMania Right, and the power reserve indicator is basically "rotated" compared to the 66A. By the way, I just came across an interesting watch, which I am considering buying. I thought I'd share it with you in case you have not yet heard about it. It belongs to the Seiko astron line, and is titanium. It is also solar, and has a perpetual calendar, like "The Citizen" watches do. It is the SBXY-029 (or the 033 in black, which is maybe even better?). Maybe a "Baby" "The Citizen" haha?
Thank you for starting this channel! I am pretty obsessed with JDM watches, so I wish you the best of luck, and looking forward to the content you’ll make! This watch in particular has piqued my interest. I am considering getting it as a present for a family member. If you are able to create a short clip of this watch with a leather strap, I would be very interested in seeing that.
Thanks for watching. I'll try to get round to posting a short clip with a leather strap soon!
@ Thanks very much!
@@JDMWatchMania Thank you! I ended up ordering the SBTH011 in the end. Functionality-wise it is less advanced since it is not solar, nor does it have a perpetual calendar. That being said, it is considerably cheaper, which is good because the person I am gifting it to would probably get mad if they found out I bought anything else than a sub 300 dollar watch. Also the dial looks incredible on the very few videos I found about it, so I am looking forward to receiving it in a few weeks. It is a new model, released in November of last year in Japan.
Can you please share the AliExpress link where you bought the clasp?
Was on Ebay actually. This link may not work: www.ebay.com.au/itm/195951268247?var=495799675659 Alternatively, just try searching for Watch Buckle Fold Safety Milled Clasp Replacement Stainless Steel Watchband M5T1
Thanks for the review. The case size is 39.5mm, can you mention what is the dial size to see if it will wear big or small
Thanks for watching. I measure the dial size at 33mm. I would say it wears true to size or if anything, slightly smaller with the negative endlinks.
@ Cheers
One of my friend has one. Nice looking watch, looks more expensive than it is. I wouldn't buy it to be honest, date window is disturbing. I would go for Vaer solar diver, I like rotating bezel. Also I have Casio AQ - 230 for 80s look. Casio is great walue for money, I had Rolex Submariner and Grand Seiko 9F before, sold them with good profit. My next expensive watch definitely will be some Asian microbrand not legacy brand as Omega or Rolex. P.S. Great video, I wish you more subs! :)
