When I was fifteen, I fell in love with a sociopath that dated my friends and neighbors after we broke up, even though he lived an hour away. One day, when things were still good, I put string lights in my favorite tree that I grew up climbing. I put a little table out with a plaid picnic table cloth. I made a mix cd of all our songs to play during the dinner. He somehow still didn't like the songs I chose. I got him Captain D's because it was his favorite, he complained that it was cold (reasonable...). I also laid out caramel hershey kisses (he was obsessed with them) in a trail leading from inside my house to the backyard. He saw them, looked down and everything, and then proceeded to step on them. He told me in other words that it was stupid because he couldn't eat them off the ground. I told him, that's why I bought another bag, it was for decoration. Anyway, eventually I told him that if he doesn't want to be with me then he shouldn't, that I could sense his hatred towards me. He broke it off, cussed me out, told me not to tell anyone I lost it to him because people think girls that do that sorta thing are trashy. I spent at least three years pining over him, going places just to be where he once was, like that movie Waiting for Forever with Rachel Bilson. I went to the bowling alley just because I knew he was there the night before, even though there was no way he would be there. I just wanted to walk on the same ground he walked on, at least, if I couldn't have him. That song, Kiss Me, by Sixpence None the Richer, I always loved that song; used to sing it on Karaoke Revolution with my best friend and dream about the day I would have a love like that. Later, when he dated my friend, he put the song on his profile to dedicate to her, something like that. Any time he would post a song, I would dream it was about me, damn well knowing it was about her. I compared myself to every girl that ever existed, I still have a hard time with that, even though I was always very confident. I gave everything I had to him, just like Abigail. And he literally put my heart in a blender. This song got me through it, I played it over and over again. My best friend, who I grew up next door to, basically my sister, she tried to console me to no avail. So, she rubbed/played with my hair and eventually I was able to fall asleep, it had been awhile. We played this song together all the time too. I'm not friends with her anymore, she is in a cult, basically, and she couldn't hang with a free-spirit that doesn't let society shape them. But I will always remember her doing that for me and I love her for it. Anyway, Taylor really did raise us. God Bless you Taylor, thank you for getting me through the hardest time in my life. Also, just to add, my ex couldn't sing and was super insecure about it because he played guitar. My current partner of four years has written me numerous songs, he has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. AND he plays guitar. I encouraged/maybe convinced? him to go to school for it because he is truly that good at music.
