    Technically, these are an 'adaptation' of the true Tetsubin. True Tetsubin are not enameled on the inside but simply bare cast iron. They are never used for anything other than heating water for. The iron actually gives the water and tea an extra special character. These are nice for actually brewing tea because of the enamel.

    Geen teas like Sencha are NOT brewed with steaming hot water for 3-4 minutes. Everyone who says that has no experience in tea making. The correct brewing time and temperature is usually printed on the package. Sencha tea for example is brewed with a water temperature of 50-60° Celsius (120-140° Fahrenheit) for 2 minutes.

      Clean the pot with water and a soft brush..then fill it with used tea leaves and boiling water and let is sit for 20 min ...discard and rinse out well. Tannic acid in the tea reacts with the rust and forms a natural seal,which wil help to prevent reooccurence of rust. I read this on a " care instruction sheet " when I bought my iron teapot.. ..hope it helps

    tetsubin plain iron, for boiling water, not for tea. Kyusu, lined with enamel, smaller, is used for steeping tea, and not for boiling anything - not for that kind of stovepot heat!

    Okay so what is the tiny blade piece used for on the opener? Is it to cut plastic off the top?

    • @homeportonline
      @homeportonline ปีที่แล้ว

      The tiny blade at the top is called a foil cutter. Usually you would use it to cut off the foil at the top of the bottle close to the lip like we do in the video. The plastic "foils" usually have a little pull tab that lets you remove it without having to use a blade, sort of like on a pack of gum, but otherwise you would use the blade for that as well. Hope that helps!

    I recently got a Heritage Steel 4 qt. saute pan with a lid because I already know and have used 316Ti cookware and it is the only stainless steel I know of that does not leach ANY metals, ever, into the food. But what I wanted to say is, although they used to make 7-layer pans it appears that today they do just the 5-layer. Sorry to say, even though they are made in the U.S. to do import some of their materials. I think the 5-layer is fine, but sure wish we still had our steel industry in the U.S.!

    • @homeportonline
      @homeportonline 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We couldn't agree more! We were very sadden that they didn't continue the 7 ply versions of their pans; as it truly made them unique. We have tested the 5 ply pans and they perform very well and are still one of our most favored choices in this category. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. -Mark (Homeport)

      If an industry has left America, blame government regulation driving up costs of labor. Mandatory unions in northern states killed jobs. Then you had the "everbody go to college" and "everbody gets paid a fair wage" mentality further killing unskilled labor AND trade skills. Then you had the privately controlled central bank printing fiat currency and devaluing the dollar causing inflation.

    Sorry bud, your explanation of the “dimpling” was off. First, it’s not “dimples” dimples are the opposite of what those dots are, they are closer to stippling, more accurate would be pimples. Second, they are there to relieve surface tension, the moisture pools on the inner lid surface on all Dutch/pots with lids, the pimples break the tension and draw the moisture onto them thus releasing the moisture downward across the entire lid. Most other manufacturers have flat inner surfaces, except for the center of the lid which has a screw, most of the moisture gets to the screw and drops down like a funnel. That’s why you have puddles in the middle of your cook. Lots of reviewers dismiss the effectiveness of this pimples, but I have both styles, and can state Staub produces a more even braise.
