I don’t know what it’s like these days but back in the 90s Shimano had the market. You can spend a lot of money on Iowa or whatever else but Shimano definitely had the smoothest reel. I doubt that things have changed since then… Other than there’s probably a lot more choices out there, but still Shimano is the brand for people who know what’s up.

I used to have a red Curado. Believe it or not, back in the day you could send your old reels in to Shimano and they would send you brand new ones. True story.

Had something like this happen to both my spin cast and baitcast in the past. Hold the spool and see if the line is spinning. Line is slipping but you can’t see the spool on the baitcaster rotating like it should because its topped off. You reel, it slips. you set the hook, it slips. cant imagine gears and friction disks giving out so fast.
