The Lass of Aughrim - Susan McKeown

"The Lass of Aughrim" (La ragazza di Aughrim) è una canzone tradizionale irlandese. Viene citata in "The Dead", ultimo racconto di "Gente di Dublino" di James Joyce. PS: "Dubliners" è un libro che consiglio a tutti, specialmente se letto in lingua originale. :-)
Parole a caso - Mauro Pagani feat. Morgan

“If I die young” -Taylor swift) throw me in the lake and throw an party in my name
Really looking forward to my wake now
Hi folks ! Would anyone know the name of the reel played in between the verses ? Thanks a lot, cheers
If you’ll be the lass of Aughrim As I am taking you mean to be, Tell me the first token, That passed between you and me Don’t you remember One night on yon (lean) hill? When we both met together which I am sorry now to tell Oh the rain falls on my (heavy) locks the dew it wets my skin; My babe lies cold within my arms; but none will let me in
I wish we were still allowed to live this happily. 😊

Tim Finnegan lived in Watling Street A gentleman Irishman mighty odd He seen a brogue so soft and sweet And to rise in the world he carried the hod Tim had a sort of a tipplin' way With a love of the liquor now he was born To help him on with his work each day Had a "drop of the craythur" every morn Whack fol-the-dah, oh dance to your partner Welt the floor, your trotters shake Wasn't it the truth I told ya? Lots of fun at Finnegan's wake One mornin' Tim felt rather full His head felt heavy which made him shake Fell from a ladder and he burst his skull So they carried him home his corpse to wake Rolled him up in a nice clean sheet Laid him out upon the bed A gallon of whiskey at his feet A barrel of porter at his head Whack fol-the-dah, oh dance to your partner Welt the floor, your trotters shake Wasn't it the truth I told ya? Lots of fun at Finnegan's wake His friends assembled at the wake And Mrs. Finnegan called for lunch First they brung in tea and cake Then pipes, tobacco and whiskey punch Biddy O'Brien began to cry "Such a nice clean corpse, did you ever see? Tim mavourneen, why did you die?" "Aarrgh, shut your gob" said Paddy McGee Whack fol-the-dah, oh dance to your partner Welt the floor, your trotters shake Wasn't it the truth I told ya? Lots of fun at Finnegan's wake Patty O'Connor took up the job "Ah Biddy, " says she, "You're wrong, I'm sure" Biddy gave her a belt in the gob Then left her sprawlin' on the floor Then the war did soon enrage Woman to woman and man to man Shillelagh-law was all the rage And a row and a ruction soon began Mickey Maloney lowered his head And a bottle of whiskey flew at him Missed, and fallin' on the bed The liquor scattered over Tim Tim revives! See how he rises! Timothy risin' from the bed Sayin': "Whirl your liquor around like blazes Thunderin' Jaysus! Do you think I'm dead?" Whack fol-the-dah, oh dance to your partner Welt the floor, your trotters shake Wasn't it the truth I told ya? Lots of fun at Finnegan's wake

If you grew up in the household that I grew up in then you knew all these great Irish Catholic ballads, hearing them many decades later brings tears to my eyes and goosebumps to my skin. LONG LIVE THE IRISH.

I came here because of iZombie and the fact that I’m Irish and now I’m obsessed

Reading Sally Rooney's "Beautiful world, where are you" I came upon this song (page 303), sung by character Felix. Both the book and the song are moving, wothwhile reading Rooney !!
Funny, that's precisely what brought me here. Great book. Great song.
Proud to be Irish and pray one day my funeral can be half as fun!

Idk about where you guys are living, but this makes 2 years in a row with no St Patrick's Day parades (we have 2 in buffalo Ny) & it really sucks. So we gotta go bar hoping all weekend....the festivities begin at 1:00 pm EST. Happy St. Patty's to all!
