I think 07 was the last year in this generation for a coolant gauge. But unless you're telling me it's something I will definitely need even if i do a good maintenance schedule i would have to say I've had a lot of vehicle's over the years with just a dummy light. You could always install one. Overall I think I'd rather have a 2004+ Impala LS 3800ii or HV flex 3500. But as far as it goes i wonder which one would actually be a better car overall for the duration? I think with the Impala one already knows what to expect from the engine transmission components provided an equally good maintenance schedule has been done/or is being performed. Financially I'd rather have the better overall mileage but I'm not a very good miser in the 3.4 mpg better mpg average regard. Comfort and quiet I'd rather have the Impala. Crash protection I'd rather have the 04-05 Impala or a..i think 09 up. 08 or 09 up. Insurance institute not the easier one. If every crash were head on and they're not the head on would be relevant. Side impact is a big deal. My body hurts too much to want to have to be tinkering with it much but on the other hand my body hurts too much for an uncomfortable seating position. High speed driving isn't an emphasis for me since I prefer the 2 lane roads rather than the 97 tractor trailers per mile interstate. Race car handling isn't the big deal either since neither are to start with. But whatever I'm in I'll have tested the limits so my reflexes are almost automatic if and when. There's more to maintenance than chasing after the oil and filter. Owner's manuals are to be read and believed. I would ignore any manual that tells me hydraulic fluid lasts a lifetime because we know very well it breaks down and creates varnish. If hydraulic fluid has never been serviced at 150,000 miles it might not be a good idea to do anything other than add some lubegard. It might, depending on how it's done. (Not all at once, and not flushed.) For every single person who's claimed they hadn't done anything to their car in 250,000 miles there's 6 more with a better memory. I've read some of these like the similar year Civics and Ford Focus have tire wear issues due to engineer's or their manufacturing accountants deciding rear camber didn't need to be adjusted. And someone figured out it did because tires are expensive and part of the overall cost of ownership.

I was debating between Si or hatchback Sports touring with manual. I ended up with hatchback top trim. The seats is not comfortable at all for me in Si, and it’s a sedan! Other downsides for me is dealer’s markup for 5000!!!!!!! I got manual hatchback top trim with 800 markup, no regrets. I love Si, but I ask myself, how many times do I throw it into corners every day? Do I race all the time? No, the hatchback has more than enough control for every day driving with all features I want and manual fun.

The Mirage has a CVT and on top of that a 2 speed automatic planetary gear(box). So, if you will a low gearing and a high gearing. You start in low and the small hesitation you feel is when the planetary gearbox switches to high gear. At that moment the transmission computer tells the engine computer to take back some power to spare the dry clutch. The Mirage has (as all CVT's with a belt) dry clutches to engage reverse and in this case also high/low gear. The main "clutch" is a traditional torque converter. Not bad for such a cheap car! The CVT also has a cooler (Nissan uses the same CVT with no cooler and higher power input). The low torque and power of the engine in the Mirage combined with low weight and the extra cooler for the CVT makes this CVT far more reliable than in the Nissans where they are also used, provided you religiously change the CVT fluid on time and do not have a very spirited driving style. The Mirage engine also has a balancer rod that turns twice the speed of the crankshaft to limit vibrations. Only much more expensive cars have that (it is a Mitsubishi invention).
