It’s so good, I’m so pleased with mine! I did buy mine because of you haha
I'm officially an influencer 😂😂
Damn, I didn't realise DJI had built the Osmo to pair with their existing wireless mic, that makes so much sense! Sound can elevate the quality of a video way more than a little extra resolution can
Yes, the Mic 2's and Mic Mini both work with the Osmo Pocket 3, and the Action 4 & 5 Pro. Super handy if you're in their ecosystem! Sound is super important, I can't watch videos that have bad sound 🙈
Youve got a great plan for 2025, love the organisation. Glad you said about leaving a video to settle before worrying about getting another one out. Now that I've finally posted one, I was worried a bit thinking that I need to be posting all the time. Not sure if you've done videos like this before as i havent gone far back but id love to see some editing videos. How you edit your photos, what software you use, the raw vs the final product. It's all very new to me. Anyway, enjoyed the vid and your vision for 2025 and lovely photos throughout. 😊
Thanks Izzy! Yeah don't worry too much about it, as long as you're semi consistent I think it's fine 😊 Definitely doesn't need to be once a week. I have done one editing video, but it flopped 🙈😂 Bu it is something I would like to try again in the future. I'm also toying with the idea of live streaming the next batch edit that I do, and then I think I can have the live stream posted as a video afterwards. Not sure how well it will do, still testing things out haha!
It might have been Dan Mace or one of the other guys in that circle that said that Mr Beast has a 21 day or something upload schedule. So TH-cam will just see that you’re consistent, doesn’t have to be every seven days or whatever. I looooove planning videos. Hate shooting them. Loooove editing haha. Also wowweee Wales looked frosty AF!
That's so handy to know! I'm definitely going to take my time going into this year. I feel like I'm the exact opposite 😂 I hate planning but love filming, so so when it comes to editing. It was COLD 😂
Hi were did you purchase the aluminium extrusion from please
I purchased it from eBay. There are quite a few different companies that sell it on there.
@chrisjwright_ ok Thank-you
Cool Lens😎
Indeed!
Just wonderful job , Mate ......go ahead next Chapter please ....all the best from South India .
For the focus point, just use the touch function.
@@D.Trider I have started using that a bit more since this video. It is useful, but I still miss the joystick haha 😅
The touch-to-focus and touch-to-focus-shoot are great on the Ricoh camera,
Thank you for an engaging video! We'd be happy to answer any questions about Dehancer.
Thanks guys!
Short answer, yes!!!! I just got mine today second hand, and I’m blown away
Nice! It's such a great little camera isn't it?!
@@chrisjwright_ Exactly! Not perfect of course, but this is the one you can have with you all the time.
yeah i've owned this lens twice and don't see that it's as soft as people make it out to be.
Agreed! I think the image quality is perfectly fine.
It's not the best. And, some parts of it can be pretty soft. But, overall it's good enough for a travel lens.
@@JLHBio Oh really? I've never noticed it to be a soft lens, I don't really look for it though tbh 😅 Definitely a great one carry, all-round lens for travel though!
I love this camera so much, it's just fantastic. About the price, it's not that high for camera with IBIS. Most affordable you can find with IBIS it's probably OM-D EM5 mk III but the kit will cost the same yet it's m43 so smaller sensor. For precise point focusing it has touch screen focus which I like more than joystick. It can even focus and shot on touch. Yet it has tracking focus, not super catchy but most of the time it works fine for aim and reframe - it will keep focus where you aimed.
I'm loving it as well! There's just something about the size of it that makes me want to shoot more. I did actually see another video recently showing the touch focus, not sure why I never thought about using that before! I'll see how I get on with that technique going forward 😊
As I mostly like street photography, this is a camera I'd love to try some day if I can find a good second hand. The lack of viewfinder means it should be used the way Daido Moriyama shoots, with a loose and dynamic way of moving and framing, somewhat casual and very much different from what landscape photographers would do. Yet, it doesn't mean the images have less value. I think I've seen external viewfinders options attaching to the hot-shoe, the way rangefinders did it, but that would slow down the process. Moriyama was one of those (the first?) that used a no-finder approach.
It's a great camera for street photography. Hopefully you come across a good deal on the used market 🤞🏻 The prices for used ones is pretty crazy at the moment! The lack of a viewfinder does make me shoot differently, it's quiet a fun way to shoot tbh. I'm just so used to using a viewfinder, that I keep forgetting it doesn't have one haha. I have seen those external ones, but personally I think it adds unnecessary bulk.
Thanks for this video mate really helpful. How does it shoot in low light? For context, I go to gigs often and don't want to lug around my dslr as often. Was wondering how they'd fare in those situations.
No problem! Glad you enjoyed it 😊 I've not fully tested it in low light yet, but it was dark in the forest on that day, and photos came out great! The lens is an f2.8 fully open, so it should let in a fair bit of light. The stabilisation is great too, and it seems to handle higher ISO values pretty well.
I think from a performance point of view it's probably a really good camera but the one thing and I just gonna say it's the ugliest looking camera I've ever seen. I couldn't pick it up. It would not inspire me to pick it up whereas I look at a Fuji they make you want to pick them up. This camera does not make me want to buy one just by looking at the ugly black camera. They could've at least made it in some colours or something. It's just so terrible to look at.
That's one of the camera's perks, it's incognito. The Fuji cameras are better looking, but they're also more prone to drawing attention to themselves, especially the popular X100 series. This camera blends in, most people wouldn't notice it. They do have some over special versions in other colours though if the black isn't for you.
@@chrisjwright_ that's probably a really fair point to be honest it's almost like a spy camera in a good way. I never thought of that actually good point.
It is like a spy camera haha! Perfect if you do street photography.
I think I'd have to agree with the ugliness point. When I moved from a Sony A7R3 to a Fuji XT-3, it felt like moving from a 4K monitor to a CRT one. The camera feels slow, quirky and sometimes unreliable, but it's one I like to use and the Sony feels like a brick, efficient, making great images but while feeling bland. The Ricoh GR could do with a little facelift, and not just some coloured accessories.
@@77cats-2 I feel the same way about my X-T5, I love the retro feel of it. Hopefully the GR IV isn't too far away.
Thanks so much for this review! I’ve been eagerly waiting for it! I completely understand the appeal of a more minimalistic kit that you can carry with you all the time. We use the same main camera, and I’ve also been looking for something more compact to have with me constantly. That said, I know myself, I like having the flexibility to switch lenses. For example, like you, I tend to prefer a 35mm or 50mm. Right now, I’m using a 23mm on my Fuji, and I find myself struggling to achieve the results I want. The fixed focal length of the Ricoh is my biggest concern, but I can’t deny how appealing its portability is (let’s not even talk about the price, haha).
No problem! Hope you found it useful 😊 I was in the exact same mindset, I wasn't sure how I'd find having a camera with a fixed lens, but I've been really enjoying it! Maybe look towards the iiix if you prefer the tighter focal lengths. Yeah the price isn't fun 🥲😂
So interesting because this camera was recommended to me by a friend a few months ago so this is helpful thank you! For street photography purposes. Tis spenny though.
It would be great for street photography! The best way I could describe it, is it's like the photography version of the Osmo Pocket. Small, easy to carry, but really good quality files. The price is hard to swallow though 🥲
Love your filters.
Thanks!
Great video! I enjoyed the adventure.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it 😊
nice
Thanks!
Unlucky that all four days were cloudy/rainy 🙂
@@shiragoose The weather was frustrating! We probably got like 3 hours of sun the whole time we were there 😂
Portugal at its best! Great photos!
Thank you! It's such a beautiful city.
Thanks for watching, hope you enjoyed this one! Was a lot of fun putting this together, even though I did have to battle with the weather (Not something I was expecting in Portugal 😅) Let me know which were your favourite images in the comments below!
Fun video, I’m suffering a similar slump and this has been helpful. Fantastic fleece btw.
I think a few creatives are feeling in a bit of a slump at the moment! Hopefully we all get our groove back soon 😅 Thank you! It's from Passenger Clothing. I have a 10% discount link in my bio if end up buying anything from there in the future 😊
Great video. 👍👍
Thanks Stephen! 🙌
Lovely photos in this video mate, great video too! I definitely relate to some of those feelings, I personally always struggle for motivation during the summer months. I'm just not much of a 'summer' person, and conditions don't often suit my visual style. I have tried to break this mindset this summer and I got a few shots i'm happy with, and I've realised that there's always benefits in just getting out, even if it's just to scout out locations for later in the year.
Thanks Chris! I'm not much of a summer person either, but I need to remember that going out and getting a few shots that I'm semi happy with is better than not going out at all. I think it's also easy to forget that it's more about getting outdoors, rather than the shots you come away with.
Will you be putting a rock and roll bed in this?
No, the plan is to have the side bench seat turn into a pull out bed.
Im rebuilding same van with a very similar design. Bed size please?
Awesome! So I never actually got around to making the bed in my original build, that's one of the main reasons I went ahead with the rebuild. Hoping to have the bed designed soon 🤞🏻
Hey Chris just found your channel and had a binge watch of your camper van videos. Love them! Especially the fact you’re so honest in them. A video per subject would definitely appeal more to me. You might also want to consider two channels one for your photography and one for your camper updates/adventures. Hope you don’t mind me saying that. All the best! Geoff
Hey Geoff, thanks for the kind words, really appreciate it 😊 It's always good to hear feedback from viewers! In regards to having two separate channels, my decision to keep the van and photography on one channel is due to the fact that once the van conversion is done, I won't really have much van content to show, apart from it featuring in photography adventures. The main focus going into the future will be more photography adventure style videos 😊 I don't know whether I've actually mentioned that in my videos previously, maybe I should 😅
Happy i found this video, i was 50/50 for flexible panels or rigid. Hopefully, everything works out for you 🙏
It ended up working in the end! But if I was to do it again, I'd definitely choose a rigid panel.
Wow! That floor is so pro! I am impressed
Thank you!
Take the stepout and replace with wooden floor
I did think about that, but I wasn't sure if it would be ok because I usually stand on the step with wet/muddy shoes.
Two or three jobs per video would be my choice
Noted! I was thinking this would be the better approach. I'll probably do that going forward, especially if they're small jobs
Cheers
Hi Chris roughly how much carpet did you use thanks keep up the good work
Hey, to cover what I've done up to now, I used one 11 square meter roll. I've also got a second roll for the sliding doors and tailgate which I'm yet to do. It's a SWB van too if that helps 😊
@@chrisjwright_ Thanks Chris I have long wheel base no side windows Window in tailgate I may put on window in side door in the future I'll run stealth in the meantime do you think 2 11mtr rolls should be enough
@@harleyd028 Yeah I'd say that should give you enough coverage
how do the ai features work for you?
They're ok to play around with, but personally I don't find them that useful really.
Apologies again for the wind in this one! The annoying thing is, I have a lav mic to combat this, and I had it with me on the day! I was just against the clock trying to film and capture the sunset, so I totally forgot about setting the mic up 🤦♂
Nice video👌👌. Which app you use for photo edditing please tell and is better than lightroom ,snapseed etc.
Thank you! I use VSCO & Lightroom to edit on a phone. Skip to near the end of the video and I show how I edit 😊
Nice
Thanks! 🙌🏻
Hey Chris, so with the ecoflow do you need to charge that via solar? Or does your engine charge it?
Has to be recharged by solar, or you can bring it into your house and charge through the mains. I have seen EcoFlow have a new accessory that allows you to charge through a vehicle alternator, but I think it's only available in the US at the moment.
I had problems lining the screws up too. I’m glad you decided to get one, I’m so happy with mine 👍🏻
Yeah the screws are tricky 😅 Got there in the end! I've not had much chance to use mine yet, but it does seem like a great piece of kit. It pulls so much air at 100% speed.
Never thought of using aluminium extrusion like that, seems like a good idea. What size is it?
It's becoming a really popular option lately! It's 2020 sizing.
A lighter coloured van would be much cooler in the summer months, even a white roof can make a difference .
Good to know for the future if I end up switching to a different van 👍🏻
Good luck xx
Thank you 😊
Cool video mate 👍🏻 good luck with the build
Thank you!
Nicely done!
Thanks 🙌🏻
Looking forward to watching the rebuild progress👍
Thank you! I'm working on the van today actually, so I'll hopefully have a new video out either this week or next 😊
Golden hour is the best time to shoot in my opinion. For me, it is all about the shadows and the angle of the sun. Golden hour plays nice with my lens and camera when I shoot directly into the sun as well. All of my landscape shots are beaches. Something about golden hour and the beach....
Golden hour is one of the best times of the day to shoot, for sure, but it's not always feasible for everyone. In my opinion, it's good to be flexible and go out with your camera whenever you can. Beaches and golden hour are a perfect combo though 🙌🏻
Keep an infrared filter in your kit and those "boring" bright blue skies will be super dramatic black. I am convinced there is no such thing as non-photography conditions. Just different.
I've wanted to try infrared photography for a little while now, maybe I should invest in a filter soon! But agreed, there's no such thing as non-photography conditions 👏🏻 Use whatever weather you have to your advantage.
