Steam Show in the Snow - Startup/Shutdown & Full Defrost Cycle
Since there was high humidity and I had never caught a defrost cycle in the snow before, I figured it’d be a great time to fire up the 2021 Lennox Merit Heat Pump that serves my Finished basement. I waited around in the snow for a defrost and defrost it did!

Caught this 31,000 BTU (just over a 2.5-Ton) Stamped Octagon RPKA defrosting while I was waiting for the ICP next to it. To say it was a nice Surprise is an understatement, as I wouldn’t expect such I picky unit to defrost when it’s in the 40’s out. Not my best defrost video but good enough. Video of a 2020 Rheem Classic (RP14) heat pump finishing up a defrost cycle, as well as a Startup & Shutdown. Located at an office building near Greenville, SC. This building was built in 1981, meaning that none of these units are original. Aside from the 1990 Carrier TECH2000 38YG, I also show a 2011 York LX Heat Pump, a 2024 York LX Heat Pump (Which replaced a 2002 Carrier 38YCC), plus two 2009 Carrier Base 13’s, which are straight cools.
