Carla Sciaky’s musical career spans five decades, beginning in the folk world with touring and recording, winning awards as a songwriter, and most recently being inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame. Concurrently, she has been a performer of early music, with a critically acclaimed Carnegie Recital Hall debut in 1980, eventually leading to her present position as baroque violinist with the Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado and her baroque quartet Sémplice.
Over the past two decades, Carla also found herself drawn into the world of healing. Coming into it with a history of health issues, depression, and an eating disorder, she now has come to see pain and suffering as an invitation to explore the deeper dimensions of our lives. Her practice, Doorway to Healing, implements the use of EFT/tapping, guided visualization, breath, energy work, coaching and strategizing to navigate and interpret through this journey.

"There Are Many Roads": finding our inner strength in connection

"There Are Many Roads"
by Carla Sciaky, ©1994 Salonica Pub/BMI
There are many roads we have traveled
In the lives that we have led
And there are many roads that lie ahead
Sometimes we walk, and sometimes crawl
Sometimes carried, sometimes shoved
Armed with hope and love
Armed with hope and love
There are many days we are grateful
For the roads that led us here
And other days we shed an angry tear
And when are dreams are broken
And our hopes are frail and thin
Then up we rise and walk again
There are many times we are tempted
To return to where we've been
Rather than to feel the fear within
But if we walk together
We can face that great unknown
For we need not walk alone
All of us find we grow weary
Somewhere along the way
And either we can give it up or we can pray
For hand in hand and step by step
We can find that strength we need
To go another mile and sow another seed

Here is the last verse - the one that took 10 years to come through me to end the song called “Something": “...We all lost something and it’s quite the hero’s journey To glean from the losing I tell you this with ruby slippers on my feet I had it all along the way…” It’s the 4th track on my new album Heart of the Swan

Carla, we're so lucky to have your voice, sung and written, helping hold our hearts and hopes together!
Thank you David! Just doing what I'm here to do!
Beautiful song, Carla, beautifully sung!
Thank you so much! And thanks for listening -- good to "see" you!
I have been searching for this version of the song for more than 30 years - heard it sung by Pete Sutherland when he was in Würzburg playing a live concert. The cassette I bought that day went everywhere I went and finally ended up broke. - Thank you so much for bringing this song to life again!
Absolutely fell in love with this!
Beautiful and very comforting. Thanks, Carla.
Goosebumps! Just stunning, Carla and team! Thank you for this gift.

I like your melody for this poem. Truly inspired by the meter and rhyme. Lovely voice and guitar work, too.
Carla - I know you stopped performing years ago. It's wonderful that you're back to singing/teaching. You still sound great.
Thank you so much, Dan!

Thank you so much! This short presentation rings so true and connects with so many other things in my life and consciousness, and the songs were perfect.
Jim, thank you!! I am really happy to hear that it resonates with you.
Just beautiful, Carla. I just discovered this video; like you, I've always loved this song, although I never learned it. Thank you for sharing your own gorgeous version!
Good to hear this song Carla. I can relate to this song in my life too.
Hi again Carla, I hope you have had a nice day. I was listening to your 1972 album. Propinquity on TH-cam. I enjoyed hearing this early album you were part of. Was it ever released on CD and is it available for purchase? Are you in touch with any of the other members of this group? Are any of them also still involved with music? You were all so young. It is is a really good band and very talented at that young age.
Yes, here is the link: www.carlasciaky.com/propinquity.html
This is one of my favourite Paul Simon songs too. You do a really great cover! I read all about the girl that Paul wrote it for, a girl he met in England. I am from England myself originally and makes me think of all the times i was running around to folk clubs in UK, to hear folk music every night.
Carla, I absolutely enjoyed hearing you sing this heartfelt song. Wish you would have gigs lined up in California one day. What album is this on and how can I send for it? The actual album that is.
Thanks so much, Suzanne! It is going to be on the album I am about to record! It will be a few months down the road, so you can either go to my website and sign the email list or keep watching here on TH-cam for the announcement. I really appreciate you reaching out!
@@carlasciaky3030 Hi Carla, I look forward to getting this album when it is out. I will check back on your website. Are you by any chance familiar with a folk singer named Dayle Stanley? She was from Massachusetts and had two LP's out in the 1960's. She played at folk clubs in the eastern U.S., mostly, during the 60's. I am fortunate to have both LP's (never released on CD's) All her songs are available to hear on TH-cam. If you have time, have a listen to both albums. There is one song in particular that is very good, probably my favorite called, "Letter from the Willow Tree." Also, lovely cover of "Shenandoah" Sadly Dayle passed away in a January 2021 in her late 70's I believe but not sure exact age. I was wondering if "Letter from the Willow Tree" would be of interest to you to cover? I think your voice would be great to cover it. There is only one singer out of UK that covered it on a CD released in UK. I believe the song was written by Dayle's ex -husband, Steve Scotti, from Mass. He died several years ago now. I met him once many years ago when I was visiting Mass. in the 1980's. He was a writer and I think also involved with the theater back east where he lived. I never met Dayle though. It is kind of an interesting story how I came to find out about Dayle. Many years ago, in the late 1960's, (still in my teens), and when Woolworth's was still around, I was at this store in dtwn. L.A. They sold LP's and 45's there. So I see one of Dayle's albums.. I was already into folk music, Joan Baez, Judy Collins and Dayle's album looked very interesting with songs that were folk. The album was sealed as they did not sell used records. So although I had never heard of her, I paid maybe $3.00 for it. Got home where I lived with my parent's and played it and liked it immediately. Then years later I found the other Dayle Stanley album (not at Woolworths though) and bought the second album. Only two were ever released.
@@suzannelawson9215 Great story! Thanks -- I had not heard of Dayle, but now I will look her up!
I have been working on this song and have to complement you on nailing a very demanding and intricate guitar accompaniment to a very wordy song. Your guitar playing is sublime and nuanced. All the best to you From Victoria BC
Jim, thank you so much! This song has held a special place in my heart for a long time.
I hope you are able to work out this great song you are working on. It is one of my favourite Paul Simon songs too. Do you also sing?
I have been working with a friend who has a much better voice than I and should have a version ready to post soon. I pick songs that i sing very carefully to fit in my very narrow vocal range. Cheers
@@suzannelawson9215 I just posted our attempt at Kathy’s Song. I hope it is up to the high standard set. Jim

Thank you. Beautiful and heartfelt.
