Welcome to Hwy 49 RC! Uploads come as and when I feel like it but if I am uploading it is usually once or twice a week. My Instagram, Patreon, and discord server links are below!
But can my 10+lb WATERCOOLED Slash 4x4 Even Perform on the Track?
Soooo the splash ate another motor. Yeah... I know I have it geared too tall but it's the only way I can get a water jacket around it. I think the reason the motor cooked was the electrical tape melted and the windings shorted. Oh well, I got a lot of hours out of that thing over the years. Not sure what motor I am going to put in it this time but it definitely needs to be a lower kV considering the gearing. Aside from that, it does perform amazingly well on the track despite being over 10 pounds; it's really stable with the 1/8 buggy shocks and is very well balanced. Fun rig to drive I just gotta get a new motor for it. Anyways, cheers y'all!

Thank you all for being patient with me while I have been slowly getting Rambii the turret lathe ready for use over the last few weeks. Still a couple more little things that need to be done and made but this has been the majority of what I have been working on. Been struggling to get the first RC project rolling but I just gotta knock some sense into myself and get to it ya know? Cheers guys! ...
Shafty on OG SCX-10 Axles Explores a New Crawl Spot!
มุมมอง 1782 หลายเดือนก่อน
You locals will most likely recognize this spot, and this particular day 5% was underwater so we decided to give it a go and I would say it's a pretty neat spot. The shafty did quite well out there, these were two of the more impressive lines I was able to do that day. The first one though was REDICULOUS. I mean there was a 10ish foot drop behind and it still managed to get up past that ridge w...

As promised, a second vid for the weekend. This one was filmed a couple months ago but I just had it stashed up the pipeline for a bit. Very happy with the editing I did on it but even happier with my boyfriend's filming; all the clips turned out awesome!! So huge thanks to him for making this one happen! RC Crawler Course REVAMP '24 |Ep 3| Staircase Reconstruction and Rope Bridge Integration!
มุมมอง 6232 หลายเดือนก่อน
Short episode this weekend, but I will upload a second video for the weekend to make up for it. I am very pleased with how the far side of the rope bridge ended up turning out; I think it will be very sturdy and the tightrope through the tree should be fun. Also glad to have the staircase back together with far more supports and reinforcements. I don't know who actually reads these but I feel l...
I Painted a Trinity Speedworks 350 Themed Body!! (With the help of some liquid mask)
มุมมอง 1633 หลายเดือนก่อน
I finally got around to doing this paintjob and I am glad to have it done, it was bothering me not being able to run my touring car just because I didn't want to thrash the cherry blossom one. And having a body on the car makes a HUUUGE difference in handling so it's kinda important. But anyway, For this one I tried brushing on my liquid mask as it was suggested to me and I am a fan of it. RC Crawler Course REVAMP '24 |Ep 2| Building Retaining Walls and Tunnel Excavation!
มุมมอง 4513 หลายเดือนก่อน
Lots of great progress today, we got one set of retaining walls holding up a new raised bed in the back corner of the course and a second pair along the fence to more clearly establish a walkway along said fence. I also managed to nearly complete the tunnel under the tree root! So much digging, so much rock, and some very sore hands later, it's looking awesome! Again if any of you have any idea...

Whats the current limit? I imagine its quite low, as in 1 or 2 small LEDs as servos get power from your receiver and not from a motor controller output.
What is MOA?
It does better than I thought great job where is that?
The radiators are behind the front shocks shrouded from air flow when moving and no fans, pure water transfers heat better than coolant boiling is not relevant at such low temperatures. Metal coolant lines and coolant tank would dissipate far more heat than plastic and silicone. Don't think IC cooling system temperatures no such thing as to cool with electrics except the battery.
I have a few boat ESCs and a boat motor all water cooled and am into planes their is a 40 gram 12 volt 5 watt aquarium pump but you gave me the idea for what to use for radiators no problem with a propellor for a cooling fan. I think car and boat motors from the same makers rust use a different housing or even a o ringed water cooled housing over the same housing.
Put your shocks upside down for lower center off cravety. And for a smaller footprint off esc's I use castle micro sidewinders. And smush them together resonlder the cables on the print. Is this a Berg? Greetings from Wim from Belgium
Very inventive
Great video thanks so I hit the sub button 🤘✌️
Hey Erika...what tool/lathe are you using? I am rebuilding a motor and I'm looking to smooth out a comm. I've never had one but I do like running brushed motors on my vintage cars, so it might come in handy. Let me know!
I am using the team orion darren's quick set lathe, but I have heard good things about the team cobra lathes that are fairly easy to come by on ebay. Only thing is mine, can't say for others, wasn't made for 550 motors so I had to mod it as I mentioned.
im glad your okay...thought you where resting...the course is looking amazing...great job kiddo
Yes, and then no.
ikr lol
That thing seems to perform much better than I expected, i think the extra weight makes it drive much more stable compared to a regular slash. It seems a little back heavy because of the overflow tank, but it seems to fly pretty good!
Yeah it is really stable and gets better grip compared to a normal slash. The tank is pretty heavy but it's fairly well balanced overall. I am really happy with it, just gotta get a good motor in it
@@Hwy49RC yeah I figured the motor may not last very long since it has to move around a lot more weight. You might have to upgrade bigger than a 540 size. Maybe a Maxx motor
@@NOTTApro142 I'll have to do some looking around and see what I can find that would actually fit since there's so little space between the bottom of the water jacket and the chassis. Though I was thinking about making a water jacket that was like a pipe that slid over the motor with o-rings on both ends so the water would actually be in direct contact with the motor can
@@Hwy49RC there are also boat motors, those electric ones sometimes have a premade water jacket on the front the factory. I just dont know how much power they have
I remember the days I tested my ESCs, on my truggies I always had them geared for 40+ MPH and nothing got really hot. There used to be a lot of great info on a forum rc-monster used to have. There were plenty of people cooking their motors and they couldn't figure out. Some had under geared their motor and it cooked and binding somewhere could've been the issue. Others would gear their motor to the moon trying to go 10000MPH lol and sometimes the motor would be warm and sometimes it would get cooked. Every time I read stuff like that I would try to replicate it just to see if the same would happen to my motors and it never did. The freakish motor I have is a 2 pole 540 motor I used on my Mugen Truggy and that motor survived when I was trying to kill it. I opened it just to see what kind of magic was inside it and it was just a simple slotless Hacker copy motor. Now you have a perfect motor to rewind though and maybe it'll be better than factory.
Siiiiick
I love this trick! Such a RAD build! Bunch of ppl heading out to deer creek tomorrow morning at 7am to crawl before the heat hits if you're interested!
Why not portals?
I'm not aware of any portal MOA axles on the market right now, let alone this scale
It looks awesome, what is the make and model of the chassis?
Made it myself based off the dravtech super sudu chassis. Check out the previous episodes to see how I made it!
Way clever
hi, what is the viscosity of the oil you are using ?
Pretty sure I would have put 35w in it, at least that's what I usually run these days. Sometimes 40
Nice work
You are killin' it! It's fun to watch your progress, as it helps the rest of us consider options for our builds, and methods we may have not considered otherwise. Keep it up!
Thanks! Yeah I have been slowly getting better at the dual stick controls, definitely messes with your head at first
We are here in the R/C Crawler news helicopter watching Erika take on this very difficult section. Notice how she is using reverse on the rear and forward on the front, absolutely amazing. There it is, she has done it. Thank you for another great video Erika.
I love it haha
Insane build! I did a warthog with rear gladiator links and driveshafts in front and rear. Thing was so unstoppable that I took it apart and built a regular crawler just for the challenge factor. ❤
Right on, thanks for watching!
Erica, u mentioned runnin out of dirt for fillin in your boxes. Wat about puttin some of the logs your wantin to get rid of, in the boxes, then cover them with the dirt? Its a win win. Yall are doin a good job on the revamp!
That's a good idea, if it comes down to it I will definitely do that. Thanks! Can't wait to get back out there and work on it but its just been so dang hot recently, like 95 by 10am, yuck!
@@Hwy49RCi feel u, been that way here in bama too
Looks amazing! Great job both of you...I would love to have a backyard RC track. Maybe when I retire and move out of NY 😂
Thanks from both of us!
lights would be pretty cool to give a glow under bridges and other places that don't make them seem like giant spot lights
Ooh yeah! Maybe rig up some solar ones that turn on at night?? That'd be sweet!
Looks like its turning out great but lots of work. Nice video 👍🏾🔥
Looking awesome 👍
Girl, that looks fantastic! Feel like the roots in the tunnel would need to be more clear though (say I send my GSpeed through it, may not be wide enough), but that's just me. LOL Keep on, keeping on, hopefully will get looking good! ✌🏼😎🤟🏻
Haha sounds good, thank you!
@@Hwy49RC yup. 🤟🏻
Looking like a world class crawler course. Thank you for another great video Erika.
😊 thank you
What's good for the goose is good for the....Grapplers? Great vid!
Thanks man!
How well did the needle bearing differential holdup?
You know, it;s not been too bad, the outdrive is a little wibbly wobbly on that side but it's been holding up to the 10lbs of 3s brushless torture I've been throwing at it so far lol
👍
It was at 14:16 that I fixed my hair for the picture rofl. I was watching the ROAR nationals and missed your live stream. Yes, Lexan needs heat, there's a video of a guy that makes rc vehicle bodies and he explains everything. He did mention the heat because his set up iirc is on a timer and his oven and/or heater elements got cool which messed up one of his bodies. Which is the reason I mention some sort of angled piece that you can use and bend the Lexan over it. To make the cover, try to make a mold that way you can put the Lexan piece over it and you heat it up and bend it into shape. Can't wait to see the finished guard. Thank you for another great video Erika.
Haha, good tips, thanks!
thanks for the video
If I were to send you a vintage 4" dia 3 jaw chuck for free, where would I send it? Also, on the 30mm X 3mm spindle thread: is it a 6H class right hand thread?
Oh! Well you can message me on Instagram or Discord, or if you have a good e-mail I can shoot you a message and we can discuss. For the thread, yeah it's 6H right hand
Riley you are sexy and what you do is sexy! That chuck is super low profile. Wow.
Even the most skilled of machinists break parting tools. They’re an essential tool but can be a pain
My brother has a 1946 Bradford lathe that was built right after ww2 ended. It’s big n heavy but still works like the day it was made. I had a 50’s bench top Atlas, and he had a big craftsman before he had the Bradford. Old lathes are so much better than that Chinese stuff available today. Love this Erica. Great video
Thats super cool!! Yeah old equipment was just built waaayyy better for sure
A beat the creek chuck! Just kidding but its definitely mint. Wickid awesome 💯🤸♂️👍
Yeah it's in great condition!
I'm a sucker for cool old tools and this is crazy cool
Thanks haha
Skills that most will never have, yes including me rofl. Thank you for another great video Erika.
Thank you!

Next time he hits that ledge tell him to use the front dig he would not have fell over 💪🏻👍🏻

Awsome build! Need new tires. Love my hyrax or I did…but What amazing coastline? Where in world are you located?
Thanks! Im in northern california
Nice to see you made it to deer creek! How'd you like it?
I'd say I'd give it a 6/10, its pretty cool, a little far out of the way for me though so not sure if I'll go back too often
Nice work I do masonry stone work of all types so respect the rock work! Great course to play on!!
Nice driving 4ws Shafty? Very nice custom work!! And excellent driving skills got that rear steer down!! Awsome footnsave!
Thanks haha yep, 4ws shafty indeed, its based off the AX-10
At 1:24 that crab walk was perfect, first time I've seen it used in crawling. Thank you Erika for another great video
Thanks! every now and then it comes in VERY handy haha
