I mostly grow artichokes for how beautiful and unique they are. My daughter loves eating artichokes but if she doesn't come to visit and pick them then they are strictly a great pollinator in my yard that can grow and live for how ever long they want to continue. Love them for the beauty.

Very cool! We are in the PNW near Salem, OR, and this is our second year growing sweet potatoes. I'm trying out 15gal fabric grow bags, with 2-3 plants a piece. Some of them have a pepper, tomato, or Basil also tucked in as experiments. But in our main bed, I've added a 2-3' wide strip of 6mil plastic on each row, cut a hole and inserted the plant. When temps are only getting to the 80s, I'm slinging some fabric row cover over top (we have a pvc tunnel frame over it) to help hold in some additional heat. They seem to be really loving it so far. I did try putting a few fresh slips in without roots, and the leaves burned to a crisp during this heat wave. But otherwise all the other plants are looking awesome. Though the grow bags really need to be watered frequently. They dry out so fast. Can't wait to see what the haul looks like in October!

That's how sweet potatoes are propagated where a leaf grows from the vine that node is what grows the new plant.

I'm in the Willamette Valley, near Salem Oregon, and I'm itching to get my slips in the ground. I started setting slips into grow bags over the last couple weeks, some of the bags are in our 6x8 hobby greenhouse and taking off like crazy already (it's getting up to 85 and 90 in there on some of our sunniest days). I'm just waiting to pull the garlic and potatoes that are in ground along the south of our house before I plant the rest of our slips in ground. I'll be hilling rows and laying some clear plastic over (with a layer of wood chip mulch underneath to protect the soil), which will help increase the soil temps, and then cutting slits and planting every foot or so. We also have a PVC low tunnel constructed last year, to which I'll add a fabric row cover during the shoulders of our growing season, just to eke out a few more weeks of growing degree days. It's amazing how much more heat we can rack up even with just the fabric over top. We got about 35 lbs of tubers last year without manipulating the heat, but I know we can do a lot better this year with our updated setup.

Hi,, I have never grown sweet spuds before. I'm wanting to try it this year. I'm getting confused tho. lol Searching on Google & YT Videos says... It will only grow from,,,, Slips, Only the organic ones will grow. Slice it long ways lay it on top of the soil. Slice it in chunks & bury them deep. AND , this is the best,,,, It's really hard to grow sweet potatoes.. lol No wonder I'm confused 😕😕😂🤣🤷‍♀🤷 I have finally found the prof I need lol Thank you. I have a Question .. In your opinion, What ones are true? Could I treat it like a normal spud. Cut it in half then bury it in the garden, or in a big fabric bag? Or does it have to be a hole spud? I have 8 Rubbermaid bins in my dining room lol , full of Red Wiggler Worms. The more I grow of anything in the summer, The more food to bag and freeze to feed my worms all winter. Cutting the spuds in half, planting them a foot or so away from each other, would they just grow the same amount as they would if I just left them hole ? or would there be more?? I'm so happy I found your video about this Thank you Cheers from Toronto Canada

Thank you so much. We do not have the money to go and buy a large farm in the country so I pretend, lol. We have so many trees and plants to hid from the city and to grow most of what we need. Every 5 gallon bucket planted with an edible plant keeps you from having to depend on commercially grown food. Please enjoy your garden what ever the size may be !!
