Cooling Fan Diagnosis and Repair 1990 Olds 98
มุมมอง 8628 วันที่ผ่านมา
In this video, I'll show how I diagnosed my faulty cooling fan motor on my 1990 Oldsmobile 98 Regency Brougham. Be careful when messing with electrical. Jumping alligator clips from the battery to the fan motor burned my finger tips due to a short in the motor. I repaired the fusible link with an in-line fuse holder from Walmart, using a 25 amp fuse. Hope this helps.

      @koolkatkustomdiecast801 Your AC probably just needs recharged. As far as for running cool your thermostat is either stuck open or the seal around it is worn. I did find the correct relays by the air cleaner later on, but that shorted fan motor was definitely the issue. All is well now.

    Can you please help me? I have an ‘89 Oldsmobile 88 3.8l with 81k that I bought few months ago. When the cars cold (or even after 5-6 hours) it will crank excessively before starting and than finally on the second attempt it will start right up, every subsequent start after it fires right up like normal. I hooked the fuel reader into the schrader valve and saw the fuel pressure was very low when doing the “key dance” and it also bled super quickly. I started with the easiest thing and tried to replace the fuel pressure regulator which unfortunately didn’t work. I assumed from there the only thing left would be to just replace the fuel pump & filter which I went ahead and ended up doing (OEM of course). Again, nothing same issue. I really don’t know what to do. She has new spark plugs, air filter, ICM was done back in January, fresh oil and filter when I first got the car, and I replaced some really corroded battery terminals. The car runs and drives perfectly otherwise it’s just this one issue is driving me crazy, if you have any suggestions please advise !!

    • @caayydenn
      @caayydenn หลายเดือนก่อน

      @inandoutofreal1ty Could be a weak fuel pump relay. Easy to test if you have one of those test relays. When I had this issue it was my FPR, which you mentioned you replaced already. Makr sure your new one isnt faulty as well. Hope you figure it out.

      @@caayydenn yeah I replaced the relay aswell hoping for an easy fix but no luck.

    • @caayydenn
      @caayydenn หลายเดือนก่อน

      @inandoutofreal1ty Do the bleed down test again on the new fuel pressure regulator to make sure it actually works correctly. Hard to think of this being anything other than a fuel issue. Could also check injectors by measuring the ohms on each one. Should be around 13-17 ohms. Might try some fuel injector cleaner as well. Low miles means it's not used often, so stuff can get gunked up I suppose from sitting.

    have your replaced the thermostat yet. wonder the right way to do it . With it so different with it pretty well hidden and the only 1 bolt housing. I ask because I'm on my forth time trying to get it right and not to leak. So instead of forcing the housing down with a bar that fits thru there. Probably where I'm wrecking the seal. 3 x before as when I take it out every time my o ring is damaged and reason it leaks . This time ( removing the throttle body) almost have the throttle body removed so I can see what I'm doing. I wasn't even bad ended up being my extra coolant tank bottom hose was plugged giving a false coolant level , so it was just low on antifreeze. But I thought as long as I purchased a thermostat. I didn't know i would have trouble with it. It's a 88' Electra Park Avenue LN3 .I haven't really done anything to it much it always just always works.

    • @caayydenn
      @caayydenn 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I always make sure the O ring is nice and wet and then get the bolt started. When it starts to pull one side down I get like a 6" extension and tap on the opposite side of the bolt. One time i just tightened the bolt without tapping the other side down and it just sprayed coolant out the side. They're a little tricky but not impossible. I always have trouble finding the correct seal to go around the thermostat itself.

    • @janbill79
      @janbill79 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@caayydenn exactly what I did on the 3rd try , now the throttle body is almost off I'm sick of wrecking seals. Just can't figure out what's holding the throttle body everything I can see is off. I thought I had it on the 3 rd try when I used another new seal and this time use silicone grease. but coolant went low on 2 mile test drive and there's green under there I thought I had it all blown out of there with the air compressor. I just want to be thru with it, If I could just figure out what's holding the throttle body it wigglers a little.

    • @caayydenn
      @caayydenn 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @janbill79 There is a small coolant tube that runs through the throttle body on the bottom of it and goes into the intake. I believe it uses an o ring on the end of it to seal. You have to remove the 10mm bolt holding it into the intake to completely remove the throttle body. I'd post a picture of it if I could here.

    • @janbill79
      @janbill79 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@caayydenn That's what it is then, That's holding it . Makes sense to as, a few hours ago I watched the GM video where they probably had there mechanics watch it back when they revise the unbalanced 3.8. I do remember them saying coolant goes thru it to cool the , what would it be the air? I guess. And I though to my self wonder where that is makes sense to must be under Neath because i have never seen it. I'll bet I get it off right away in the morning now thanks a bunch.
