Valor L210 blue flame kerosene heater
มุมมอง 2.1K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Valor L210 kerosene heater that I just picked up. Took a lot of cleaning but all the guts are in good shape. This is the first time attempt to light using the original wick which I cleaned up. It lit amazingly well and produced an immediately blue flame. I will clean up the outside and repaint the blue parts in the spring.

Wraping up a day at the lake. First outing with the new to me 1960 evinrude 3hp lightwin. Great fit for the mariner 4.

Just a little cruising with my nephew on Cameron lake, Vancouver Island B.C. Canada. Intex mariner 4 boat, new to me 1960 evinrude 3hp lightwin. Nice little motor. Ran great all day. 80psi compression on both cylinders, new impeller according to previous owner, running 20:1 mix, updated coils, new recoil spring, fuel tank and carb clean, and made a new fuel strainer for the tank using fine mesh...

great little 3hp evinrude from 1960. 57 years old. Healthy 80lbs compression, good impeller, updated coils, only needed throttle butterfly linkage hooked back up to run. Bought this thing for $30 today. Needs a new pull rope handle but that's about it.

Decided to take a look at the pump since engine was sitting for around 8 years. Pretty happy I did. New impeller works great.

Intex mariner 4 with homemade transom and 1969 johnson 1.5hp. Boat is old but was only $100, Made the mount out of lawnmower handle tubing and some heavy duty plastic I got at Industrial plastics and paints In Nanaimo B.C. only 5 bucks for a slab of plastic. Bought the motor for $75 and put a new coil, plug wire and impeller in it. It runs mint, 120lbs compression. I can start it by hand. Sweet...

    Hey right on I camped there a long time ago in 1998. Isn't there not a trestle railway bridge on the North side of the lake? If I remember correctly, there was a trestle train bridge that was quite impressive. I wonder if it's still there.

    • @sandys9791
      @sandys9791 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes there is a train trestle. The railway is carved into the mountain across the lake. A train supposedly derailed many years ago and ended up in the lake

    Superb. I'd really like one of these, I'm in the UK and have not been able to heat my home this year. So we have used an open fireplace (had the chimney cleaned and fireplace renovated), electric blankets etc. It still cost a heap of money using a gas boiler to heat water. Anyway, something like this would be smashing for nights when you've been busy and don't want the trouble of making a fire.The sort of night when everyone's been busy until late, and it isn't worth the effort getting a fire going because everyone is going to bed in a couple of hours. Still, it is not nice to sit there in the cold after a tiring day!

      These little parafin heaters are great for that. I still use one of my more modern Japanese built heaters when the power is out. I burn diesel in it so it costs next to nothing for fuel. I have a couple that are like lanterns, called toyotomi moonlighter. They have a glass chimney and look really cool when burning.

      Just Googled them, they are nice! Yes! I have just won an old Valor 56R on eBay, so I am well on my way to happy times with that. I like the black ones. Easy to restore as black stove paint is always available.

      @@sandys9791Hi Sandys! How can you use diesel in your moon lighter? Doesn't the wick become useless? Do you have a trick? Any tips? I will thank you very much!

    The Aladdin blue flames are nice (I've got one of the "Model 16" versions), But they're no more efficient or powerful than any of the other 3" circular wick "blue flame" type heaters, so they're no more use as a heater than a Valor, or any other 3" BF unit......... They do look cool with their "Exoskeleton" cage around them though. :D If you're still looking for an Aladdin blue flame, it's probably best to go for one of the variants that have the vertical wick height adjuster knob on the tank and the link arms that hold onto brass nipples on the wick, rather than the one's with the horizontal adjuster and tube wick carrier though. The tubular metal wick carriers of the more common (In the UK at least) Blue flame 16, 27, 32, and 37 models DO eventually wear out, and they're pretty much unobtainable as "new old stock" everywhere now. Serviceable used wick carriers are currently going for almost as much as a rough version of one of the whole heaters that use them ! With the scarcity of them, the simplicity of their design, and the inflated price, I'm surprised no enterprising Chinese company hasn't started using any CNC laser cutter down time to cut out blank sheets of tinplate to make short run batches of these yet? Also, if you restore an Aladdin BF, when reassembling it, you need to make sure everything lines up properly. Fit the burner basket to the tank and check the central wick tube has an even gap all around it for the wick. Adjust that by carefully distorting the angle of the central tube. Then fit the tank to the frame with the full chimney installed. The chimney can move about a little, but not a huge amount, so to make it line up with the burner, you need to use the (About 1/8") clearance that the font's mounting studs have in their holes on the frame. If this isn't enough adjustment, you can distort the frame slightly to get it perfect. once all this is done you should get that nice iconic "Flame crown" with the same height and angle of flame all around the wick. Where you can usually get away with even up to a 2" blue flame burner in your home without too much trouble (Depending on how draft free your home is), the 3" burners are pushing that a bit, and even when setup perfectly, they tend to put out just enough carbon monoxide to be a concern in a modern draft free room, so anyone reading this who's running one, get at least one of the CO alarms that has an LCD readout, and keep an eye on it. Using that you'll be able to work out through trial and error how much you need to crack a window open to get enough fresh airflow and keep the carbon monoxide below the 9ppm level that all the health authorities seem to agree is the maximum safe constant limit. Most 3" burners will kick more than enough heat out into a room to overcome the amount lost through a slightly open window.

      This is a good explanation. I have many Perfection yellow flame type heaters. All of them emit no CO. I was extremely disappointed in the Alladin Blue Flame Series 15 as it emitted CO despite the blue flame.

    nice kerosene heater. I bet because it is blue flame, it is odorfree.

    • @sandys9791
      @sandys9791 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I get no smell from any of my kerosene heaters. These things get a bad rap for smell because people think they can burn stinky old kerosene in them. Kerosene is just like gasoline in that it goes bad and developes a bad smell. If you've ever smelled old varnished gasoline you know what I mean. Burn old stinky kerosene and its gonna smell really bad. Fresh kerosene in a heater will give you odor free heat. I have many kerosene heaters and you cant smell any of them burning.

    • @sandys9791

      I GPS'd it and got 7km/h average. 9km/h was my top speed. Not fast, but works good for the lake I go to that has no public boat launch. Sure beats rowing. I have a johnson 2hp as well and it is about the same speed with the 2hp.

      thanks i just changed the gear oil like you mentioned. it was pretty bad. going to change spark plugs...could you tell me if i should buy this? www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/ngk-marine-spark-plug-2-pk-0183600p.html#spc

    • @sandys9791
      @sandys9791 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      crosshair I found that the recommended plug is a Champion j6c which I got at Canadian tire. Couldn't find online, they use weird numbers, but they have them in store. They are sold individual tho so you need 2.

    • @jeansandmyshirt
      @jeansandmyshirt 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      sandy, i tried starting the motor but it doesn't start. the propeller rotates for few seconds but nothing. should i change spark plugs next? not sure if i have buy coils too.

    • @sandys9791
      @sandys9791 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      crosshair Check for spark, if it ran last year the coils have definitely been updated and should be fine. Pull one plug at a time, leave wire attached and touch the metal body of the pulg against engine block to ground it. Pull motor over and see if there is spark. If you have spark, dribble a little fuel in each plug hole and see if it fires. Might be a fuel problem.

    great. how do you mix gas and oil? what kind of oil and gas?. i'm going to buy an older johnson for my mariner 4. cant wait to get it out in ocean waters. did you make custom engine mount or its intex mount?

    • @sandys9791
      @sandys9791 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      crosshair the mix ratio on this old girl is 20:1 which is pretty rich but doesn't smoke too bad. My johnson 2hp takes 50:1 mix. Both really good motors for the mariner 4. I made a custom mount that replicated the stock mount. I didn't have access to buy stock mount so I made my own. If you can get the intex mount it will work fine.

    • @sandys9791
      @sandys9791 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      crosshair Actually some say the mix on this motor should be 16:1 some say 24:1. I run 20:1 and it works great. Regular outboard 2 stroke oil, and ethanol free fuel of your choice. Make sure it is ethanol free. For anything small engine Ethanol free is a must. No ethanol in small engines period. Best thing about these little motors is that service parts are easy to get, and cheep, even on this old motor. The angled drive also seems to help transfer power through the boat instead of pulling the back of the boat into the water.

      great. I appreciate your help. im going to pick it up today. it'd be my first gas motor, hopefully it'll start and work. the owner said it worked last summer. I'm planning to take it to indian arm and lakes around vancouver.

      @sandys9791 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      crosshair no worries, let me know which motor you are getting, and If you need any advice let me know, I've been through a bunch of these little motors and they are pretty easy to work on with simple tools.

      thanks sandy. i have only done oil change on my car so i have no idea about outboards. i'm getting this; vancouver.craigslist.ca/van/bpo/d/3-hp-johnson-2-stroke/6385965620.html hope it doesnt have major issues because parts are hard to find. i guess if prop break or something i wont be able to get an aftermarket one. lol
