Absolutely beautiful thanks to Johann and Sir James. I wonder how/why Bach wrote it in F minor...Rampal did it in G (lovely) and now people play it in A minor. Really makes not so much difference although the original Key has a depth of expression for the lower register of the flute.

Thanks for posting this. I had this Phillips recording years ago and it seems it is no longer available. It seems they have cobbled some of these performances for the “Amadeus” soundtrack. The fact that you cannot find this recording in its entirety is just criminal

I hear that this performance and recording and performance may be the gold standard of all times. For me, it's a little fast but it is indeed sublime. However, for my tastes, I'll choose the Bernstein recording/performance.

Why is it that this wonderful but short piece of classical music doesn't get the audiences that it deserves? This particular version is vibrant, melodious and perfectly played by a great group of musicians that really know what they're doing! I have heard dozens of recorded performances of this symphony. This is my favorite. The pacing is ideal for the first movement.
