Kick start has quite an increase in ratio to turn the engine so removing the generator cover and using a breaker bar directly on the crank end bolt will apply much more effort to the seized parts. The worst siezed pistons i have seen were totally fused to the bores and required the conrods cutting to get the motor apart. With the price of parts today a replacement engine is your best bet!
@@MrTench8 yes all sorted now turning over well
That tank is worth more than the whole moto. Looks like old school coffee bar special. It's horrible! I love it!! Would not change a thing!(Maybe a front fork brace). Ultimate Rat Cafe!!🍺🤠🍺
Turns over now, must get back to it. Wheels going on my Vincent Drag Racer
Rust remover contains acid, not good.
Take the plugs out and tow it slowly
Rusted distribution chain?
I think it is needing a refresh, the bike needs some work but will be awesome when up and running!! Take it apart freshen things up ( clean and check ) reassemble; enjoy!!
A mechanic friend once demonstrated the amazing abilities of Coke Cola, to unseized stuck pistons, on a FORD Granada engine. He filled each cylinder, after removing the head, with Coke Cola, on a Friday and by Monday, the engine could be easily turned over by holding the flywheel with his hands. Previously, with two of us pulling on an attached steel bar, the engine had been stuck solid. Phosphoric Acid, found in Coke Cola & Doctor Pepper, dissolves rust, oil gunge and other engine crud, very effectively.
Drain the crankcase, then go get some AE Half and Half, a 50/50 of milk and cream. I know it sounds strange, but I've used it on several stuck engines, and it has always got them broken free. Try it and see. What do you have to lose ?
Even if you can get it turning you will be stripping the engine and replacing big parts, the easier rout would be to try and find another engine.
As soon as I saw these on the thumbnail I recognised them from this week's Junk & Disorderly!
@ResidentWeevil yes he bought them for 200 bit high but so cool. Yours for 130
@@MotorcycleReclamation Only if they come with a free Vincent Black Shadow to fit them on...
I would at least pull the top cover to see what kinda shape the value train is in and scope the cylinders. If the top end is all rusted up you're probably wasting time. JS
Sorry this is sold and on the road now. See website for stock Motorcycle Reclamation
What's asking price ?.
I hope you get it running mate. Get to the pub and have some beers and things won’t seem as bad👍
If you are 100% certain the bike turned over when you purchased it, I think that flooding the bores is not going to help. It may be that a piston ring has broken or the crank has seized once debris has been lifted from the sump and into the journals. I would get a borascope in the spark plug hole first and then try to get the head off to determine whether it is a piston issue or a crank issue. Fingers crossed for piston ring issue because a crank issue will probably make the repair not financially viable. Hope this helps! Oh. before you do that have you tried to see if the engine turns backwards? There could be debris on top of the piston, not allowing the engine to do a full rotation.
Looks cool, Old school!
@stevedando7226 Called Silver Arrow, Good if Henry to put them in TV last night. I bought from him at Stafford
Seized crank. unless you specifically want something to do over the winter, bin it and get a 400SD motor from a breakers.
1, Acetone + hydraulic fluid 50/50 mix. Leave 24h. 2, case cover off, big spanner on crank backwards and forwards , a LOT of heat on barrels, plumbers gas bottles too weak, go oxy, you have to get the steel liners quite hot inside. ( from experience)
If that's the case I doubt you're looking at simple ring to bore stickiness. Acetone and ATF 50:50 has always been the best easing oil I've found but that's on stuck stationary engines with iron barrels that don't have the degree of rubber/synthetic seals that acetone can beat up. I'm thinking it's had water ingress through an open valve and you've got a seized crank. They're not difficult to strip and it'll probably be quicker than pouring gawd knows what down the plug 'oles and crossing your fingers. At least you'll know.
stick it in high gear and rock the bike backwards and forwards
@JOOLZNED Done but will try again now it's had chemical
Hi Ithink the problem with the frantic is all that glass, but especially the Mag type open wheels, they are not allowed at MX tracks for safety reasons look in the ACU hand book. Sorry you had a wasted trip but that is for everyone’s safety
Love the Megaton alloy end cap Zorsts !
As an ex-Mocheck Honda mechanic, doing the engine is the easy bit because they’re very straightforward to work on. Time consuming on the cycleparts etc are seized nuts and bolts. There shouldn’t be any rust in the tank as it’s aluminium. You’re looking at a complete gasket set, also for the carbs plus battery, liquids, tyres, brakes and maybe even clutch. Once up and running it’ll make commuting fun.
@SherKhan-b1kes just applied for V5 it's still not free will get the big gas on heating up soon
@@MotorcycleReclamation then wish you lots of success. Not sure if getting a frame with a logbook being an option.
Lovely rolling chassis and set up well...but choice of engine is questionable..they weren't the "Fastest twin on the planet".....nice find all the same.
They don't allow older bikes!!?? Disgusting.
@bananabrooks3836 Won't even allow Mrs to ride Honda XR250R
It deserves a second chance, go for it. 🔧👍
It’s a h*nda - just put it back and nobody will know you had one
Do it back up as is and put it back on the road! Looks like great fun!
Tell them to stick it. plenty of other tracks and clubs who'll take you... PS.. a rare Fantic🏁🏁
@Team-fabulous Yes going to fo Enduro the Lincs series is really good. Thanks, the bike goes well
@@MotorcycleReclamation keep her lit 🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
Greetings from the jersey shore. Our local MX track has become more for advanced riders.Way dangerous for beginners but they still allow not with those bikes you have.
The CB400 super dream engine is one of the best bike engines ever made for reliability, id love to see that turned into some sort of street scrambler, styled on a '60s British bike, the Snetterton seat and tank have to go elsewhere, but that engine will run forever with regular oil changes, I had a 250cc super-dream and that was a lovely bike for plodding around on, very friendly and forgiven engines. some t**t stole it and wrecked it, when I found it it had blood on it from the thief, happy days,
@sicks6six Engine still not turning over but will soon, I have a good spare motor though
Looks like a lot of mis management going on considering in the past you've ridden there ok.
@wombat1238marsupial Not a great day. Was looking at buying a new MX bike last night will probably do the Limcs Enduro series now, done before it's great fun
That needs saving and put back on the road.
Debatable ! 🤔 life’s too short etc.
@ oh I’d make time for a funky superdream like that!
Rolling chassis has potential , definately needs a better motor though
I would be tempted to do it up, tank looks like it was made to fit an oil in frame Triumph
@JOOLZNED Yes I think i need to make it run
Absolutly GORGEOUS !!!🥰🤩🤗
Thank you! 🤗 I'm doing a few jobs already
super nice bike!
Dude!
i had one in 1980 in coventry x mcn test bike
Nice bikes them. Common fault is the gear selector but it’s a cheap easy fix.
@ the gear selector springs are weak, it’s a known fault, luckily the selector does not go through the crankcase like normal bikes and is just behind the sprocket cover.
@@anonhunter5191 Happened to mine and a friend's. As you say, comparatively easy fix.
I just wonder if you are going to sell it a bit too cheap....🤔 I really don't know how many CBX's are still running on UK and what are the prices in there. But in Finland these are very rare bikes and what I know Honda import did make me a offer to buy my CBX at price of 4000€!!😬
❤ I love it!❤
Did it sell?

Dammit, I had one so many years ago. Very zippy and pulled well. Never seen one since. Enjoy.
Got 7x 250cc and 1x 125cc.... bring cash :)
Very good point and I fully agree. To put some of your worries at bay; I'm 25 and my only mode of transport to my mon-fri commute, is and has been for the past 3 years, motorcycles. I've gone from a 2001 cg125 to a 1986 vt250f, after getting hit off that I went through both crf300l and cb500f hire bikes, and am now the proud owner of a 1989 xbr500. I have to agree that there's not a lot of us... but we're out there!
Love an XBR got 4x here and GB400TT had my 1st new in 86
It's not for you to 'do' anything. They don't like what you like.
Coming from a 25 year old, most of them/us have just been scared into thinking they'll die, that or they haven't had any form of introduction to it so it's alien. It's not that they wouldn't enjoy it if those things were addressed more.
Get rid of these electric scooters.
@BatterseaBill Would help, dangerous little gits, no manners, no lights... no police interested in doing anything though
As someone taking my test, I will tell you. It’s a nightmare.
@jendrizzyy yes seems so, hope you get through it with not too much pain as it is worth it
All of my friends, everyone of them gave up their bikes in the 80s for various reasons. I always ran at least one bike even during my leanest time. Theres always been 5 or 6 since the 90s to the present day. A right mixture from 1930s to current. Friends that pop round invariably gravitate to the garage with a cuppa and the sad looks in their eyes is haunting. I say, " come on, the kids are grown, you've got plenty in the bank", and the like but SOMETHING is holding them back. Damned if I know what it is though. I get comments like, " its alright for you, you're lucky", but it's not luck, it's dogged determination to do the one thing for ME that gives me something back and keeps me happy and young. There is hope my neighbours lad is learning. He's already had his vintage GS125 round to me for surgery and a teaching session or two. But I get your point, there are no gangs of young lads on scruffy barely running bangers any more.
Im sure I remember the saying "The lost generation ", young guys who would never experience the fun of riding/owning a bike, probably because they were put off by the fact that the bike test has got more difficult and costly.............
i'm a lacks biker, last time i had a bike was in the late 70s, never past my test but i could ride a 125cc, and if memory serves, which it normally doesnt, you could go up to 150cc, 175cc, anything under 250cc you could ride without passing a test... i recently had the thought of getting myself a bike again, and the rules now are just stupid, cant even have a bike without taking the CBT, which only last two years, and you need two modules to pass to get anything over 125cc..... even then you have to have learner plates for a while... it just puts you off, it did me anyway, seems purposely anti biking that, this is why most of the bikers now are my age, they past a simple test back in the day, and it still stands today, where new riders have to jump through hoops
@@simtime7591 you can ride 125cc but can do the easy access course to full size bikes
