Flower Art Photography - Introduction Light
Without light there is no photography and it is the quality of the light that has a huge impact on the feel and mood of an image. In our flower photography we aim for a soft light on the flower, but next to that also the light on the background plays a very important role on the picture. Flower Art Photography Post processing Fast and quickly
มุมมอง 3.9K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
I create my images in-camera but that doesn't mean that they don't need any post processing. Although most magic will happen while shooting the macro pictures they mostly need some minor adjustments. The post processing I perform is mostly limited to adding contrast correcting color and dodging and burning certain areas to make the images more alive. In the flower art photography masterclass We...

In flower art photography, the goal is to capture dreamy and painterly macro portraits with a shallow depth of field. This means focusing on the details of the flower while blurring the background, creating a soft and artistic effect. Where to put your focus point - shallow DOF
มุมมอง 2.8K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
Where to focus and how much of the image should be in focus? It can be a difficult question to answer, especially when you are shooting flowers with the selective focus technique. We want to create a dreamy painterly look straight out of the camera. And to do this we use a shallow dapth of field. Should the focus sit on the front of the flower, the center, on the stamen or on the petals. It can...
Manual focus fast and easy
มุมมอง 2.4K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
Manual focus fast and easy When shooting macro images or flower portraits your focus point has to be spot on. I shoot my flower portraits with a shallow DOF and to get my focus point at the right spot I can't rely on autofocus. Manual focussing can be tricky when you start with it, but in this video I explain how to do it fast and easy. Subscribe to our newsletter and receive series of free vid...

Jewels of the rain forest - frog photography
มุมมอง 1.7K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
I have always been fascinated by frogs and it is through them that I started my journey in photography. I have been breeding poison dart frogs for years and have also taken many pictures of them. Poison dart frogs are the jewels of the rainforest. Beautifully coloured and, on top of that, they have a very interesting biology. They come in all colours of the rainbow and can be found in the centr...
The key to good photography: time!
มุมมอง 2.6K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
To take good pictures you really have to concentrate and take your time. It takes some effort to focus and find the best frame, and with the distraction of the many choices we have to make, like, camera settings, lens choice, subjects, possible angles or compositions, vertical or horizontal, we often lose track. As a photographer, you have to be patient but with today's fast pace, it's not alwa...
Low noise high ISO when shooting hand held
มุมมอง 9K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
Low noise at high ISO or even extreme high ISO is possible without losing image quality. Just by shooting a burst of images at the same settings and averaging them out in photoshop. This gives you more freedom when shooting hand held in low light conditions. On a tripod you're able to set a longer exposure, but hand held your shutter speeds need to be fast enough to avoid camera shake. So you o...

Thank you very much for good explanation on dreamy flower photography. I'm so inspired by your art. Should I use my 60mm macro lens on micro four third Olympus or rather my helios 58mm lens with macro filters?
Another great tutorial. Presumably you are going for that nice soft look, so diffraction will not be an issue, and you can stop right down to f22. I wonder if you also use a filter to get that softness in your images?
Great tutorial Dirk. It looks like you are using the RAW files in the stack. Have you processed them beforehand, or are they RAW files straight out of the camera?
Super ❤
When photographing dart frogs do you use a polarizing filter to reduce the glare caused by the backlight? Do you use TTL or manual flash in the field? I’m going to Costa Rica in December and your video provided good info. Thanks
I love it 😍! So wonderful!
Vielen Dank ❤
It's an awesome technique that not many know about, tks. for this video 🙏 , I find though that still Tripod is best for bursts and the more photos you stack, the less noise. I learned about this from iPhone photography Guru David Addison , another explanation of how this works th-cam.com/video/EvQSGUgOXrQ/w-d-xo.html

Hi Dirk, do you use a flash? With a diffuser? Or is flash usually not needed?
An excellent tutorial. I can't believe that it has so few views! When you shoot from beneath the mushrooms, do you place your camera on the ground (perhaps on a bean-bag), or use something like an inverted tripod?
I purchased flower art photography masterclass, I have not look at it for long time and forgot how to login, please show me how, thanks
I love your technique for photographing flowers and nature. I am also enjoying your teaching methods, I can’t wait to get back out to the botanical garden and practice. Thank you for making this available. 4:19
nice
Excellent series. Something worth mentioning is that there are health concerns when working in these environments. I was recently diagnosed with Blastomycosis. A potentially fatal fungal disease. One local woman died from it, but many can naturally fight it off. I caught it when working in the wetlands around here (NW Wisconsin) and I might have had a cut on my hand that allowed it to enter but possibly entered by breathing in the spores. The cure is long-term, several years and the only medicine I can take is costly; $100,000 a year. But my insurance covers most of it. Wear gloves and wash them often. If symptoms appear, do not wait to see a Doctor. Get in early.
Can this be done with different exposed images too? So you'll get noise reduction and hdr in one step?
I find that bracketing in low light, and then using HR software does get rid of the noise.
Simply superb and beautifully produced and explained. Many thanks.
beautiful images. thanks for taking the time to make the video and sharing how to take dream like images.
Maybe my question is "odd", but I wonder about the color temperature of the flashlight that is used? Does it matter? Are they all similar or all very different?? Do adjustments need to be made in editing for different light temperatures if they vary?? (again, I'm referring to the light coming out of the flashlight)
If you use Helicon Remote, you don't have to worry about any of your mushroom being out of focus and you can keep a shallow depth of field in the background.
Your videos are amazing ! Thank you for sharing.
Excellent video! I learned a lot watch it. Thank you!
Excellent instruction, Dirk! thank you so much. I also have a Canon and can do MEs but I struggle with soming up with intersting images ike you have done here. Clearly I need more practice!
Dirk, I am really enjoying your free mini-course! You have excellent examples and sum things up very well. Thank you!
Wonderful!
what gear do you use? I don't have a macro lens. I have the canon r6 with 50 1.8, 24-70 and 70-200 2.8. thanks
WOW amazing! Thank you again!
Wonderful, thank you again!
Best explanation about exposure compensation. I finally got it! Thank you for all your videos and flower Master class. It is worth every penny!
exposure made clear, thank you
Beautiful photos
A small correction: Nifty-fifty is 50mm f1.8, costs about $100. 50mm f1.4 is a better, more expensive lens, it costs about $400.
Lovely video, thank you! May I ask what macro lens you use?
I've been taking photos for YEARS - mostly of architectural abstracts. I've recently moved to the countryside and have had to change things a bit. I have a macro camera and have a few florals that look...ok, but this video changes everything! I can't wait to get out there again and do things very differently.
Love all your light painting clips. I am searching the clips where you teach how to edit a multiple shots. Please direct me to that clip 🙏
Absolutely wonderful. All I can say is thank you so much for uploading this.
It’s always hard in a place you don’t know to find compositions. I felt you did extremely well, Dirk, and yes, you need the time and effort, especially when things are new. Learning about a place beforehand helps considerably. Love your flower and woodland images! So much easier using digital than film, which I remember very well and I’m not returning to it!
Very useful advice, Dirk, and such beautiful images! Unfortunately, we are heading into autumn in Australia, but there are still flowers around, and in my garden, so am getting out to follow your advice, before they all disappear! Thank you, Dirk.
Thanks for the suggestions in this video. Love your photography!
Very lucidly explained Sir , with appropriate & suitable images . Thank you .
The first picture is actually better before than after ;) But the rest of them are cool :)
Excellent presentation of exposure. Really clear and thoughtfully put together, well done.
Very helpful clarification...useful instruction. Thanks.
Another great tutorial. your post processing technique was was simple and elegant. I wasn't expecting a processing tutorial however, I'm very happy that you did this. It was very educational for me as I'm sure it was for many of your subscribers.
Glad it was helpful! Post processing is part of the game. For me in-camera doesn't mean that you don't do any post processing. Post processing's always involved, you can choose to let the camera software decide how to do it or you can take it in your own hands.
Thank you so much for these tutorials that I discovered about a week ago. Your subjects are so fascinating and your explanations are so easy to understand as well as full of really good information. I am now a subscriber and look forward to your future tutorials. 😀
Where are the daisies?
This video really takes photography to an art form.
Why not just use noise reduction in LightRoom?
