    Awhile the early 70's. Best time to be and live at Tahoe. Lived in Incline from 74 to 96. 96 was getting to crowded and with the IVE GOT MINE BUT YOU CANT HAVE YOURS attitude across the area. Went from a small town to a political nightmare. Where to me still remains that way. I'm so glad to had lived there then.

      Typical "mountain town native/local" attitude... (which I loathe.) • hates any development of said town • hates population growth in said town • Cares not for economic growth in the town as if it's infringing on their sacred place • lives in the past (lol) • has no concept of what's actually good for the growth of a town in the long run • ends up moving out of town anyways (lol)

      To be fair, ANY ski resort town in this country was much different 50 years ago then they are today... I don't get it when boomers say places have "gone to shit" or "it used to be so much better... Sure, from your perspective I bet It has become more populated and more developed, but that's how the world works, and how population growth works. Can you really blame people for wanting a better life in the mountains? And furthermore, did you expect a place like tahoe to stay "small town" forever? I just moved here a year ago from living in mammoth/bishop and I feel it's a much more livable place and i absolutely love it.

    📚 This man's life truly deserves an authentic biography documentary, one that focuses on him, his personality, the way he though, felt, and believed. The subjects, such as: career, hotels and gam8ng, auto collection, are subjects that were decision related, however, our personalities are tied to our True Self, our Soul Self, and rarely do we choose to adjust this. The Physical 3D subjects are reflective of our situations and choices. These are important to our total experience, but understanding the Individual is the foundation of understanding the choices made. I wish all ind8viduals wrote their Autobiographies, for they offer a look from the Inside out, we can largely only look from the Outside in. I remember Tahoe not having the big buildings, but seeing Reno with no big buildings looks weird. Always remembered Reno in the 70s as a kid and seeing all the big hotels down the strip with the old Reno arch. I was also there in 88 when they took down the old arch and put in the new one. They had a laser and fireworks show to celebrate the lighting of the new arch. The old arch was sent to Willits, CA and is still there today with the Willits sign.

    I have a 1950 I think map of Tahoe, before the airport was built there was a big fresh water marsh there. I wish I could have seen it. Wait...they were going to build that monstrosity on the side of Mt. Talac??? I never heard of that old plan. I was on Pope Beach when Harvey's Wagon Wheel was bombed by that guy who lost a lot of money there.

    • @ABQRT
      @ABQRT 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We lived on that meadow for 46 years before leaving Calif. It was used as a cow pasture. There are numerous concrete dams between the airport and the Lake Marsh, to back the water up to irrigate the meadows AND in the winter when they froze the Dunlop Family cut blocks of ice and stored them in double walled ice houses using sawdust from the mills for insulation, along the Upper Truckee River so they could operate their dairy and creamery in the Spring and Fall, before trail driving their herd back off the Hill before the snows closed the roads. Yep Harvey got bombed BUT then he was allowed to build the tower they would not permit beforehand. Locals often wondered about that and there IS a lot of history in Lake Tahoe. I knew people that lived at the Lake back in the days when during the Winter there were less than 10 residents. speaking of Harveys Wagon Wheel, they stopped using the glass elevator some years ago I believe, and I was gifted, by a family member the last "High Roller" lapel pin that ID'd High Rollers to Staff. No I was in that category BUT they were my neighbors. The locals used to hang out at Little Harveys, Harveys Inn, which became Lake Side Inn and know I understand the local hospital is converting it to medical applications. There used to be an airfield just to the east in that meadow and across the street from The Inn there had been a casino in the old days with a spring loaded dance floor!
