Mindfliers that posses the weave after transformation, are considered a failiure of transformation, since the weave allows them to retain a certain semblance of their former selves... that is actually part of the lore. Such mindflyers are either destroyed or become outcasts. Omeluum and Emperor are both good examples. If anything this probably means that weave is bound to soul, and retaining weave allows a mind flier to retain their soul.

i always thought this was the best ending, particular for the dark urge. it really did have to be you that made the sacrifice to become an illithid, karlach didn't deserve to lose herself, orpheus had an enslaved people to fight for and the emperor couldn't be trusted, and beyond those practical reasons you're the leader so you're responsible for the party, not to mentioning durge having a lot of sins to make up for. as for why i think dying is the best option it's just the most realistic, if you don't die you'll be forced to feed on minds which will slowly wipe out your own mind anyway (that doesn't change with having a soul either), so in my mind it's better to lose your life than lose yourself. also it's just very fitting, you'd already righted the wrongs you caused but it was one last act of penance along with sticking one more finger to bhaal

I met Aradin in my run too, the dumbass tried to rob me of the prize for bringing Aylin to Lorrokan and I had to put him in his place. Lorrokan followed soon after as punishment for trying to defy the gods.

You know when NOT killing Cazador is a good ending? Its when youre Asta origin and take over the brain. You can literally brainwash and torture him for centuries to get a full blown payback.

I honestly so rarely used him (I got him rather late), but I enjoyed his commentary. Maybe next playthrough I'll try to get this one (though I manage to have everyone alive at the end and spawn Astarion doesn't go to the underdark). The jail one is funny though, especially when you tattle to jeheira about it.

Not just an illithid person but a drone of a hive mind. Stay under the control of an elder brain long enough and your soul fades into nothing. Ceremorphosis is required, but not the cause. Like drying a wet log and setting it on fire. It's not on fire due to the drying, but it would have never caught fire without it. This could also be the source of emps' duality. He was a true mind flayer for a long time, but he isn't entirely gone. Just halfway. And omelleum is just the GOAT. My favourite character in the game honestly. If anything we where told about mind flayers was true he wouldn't literally try to sacrifice himself to save ravengard on the iron throne.

My guess as a complete tourist is the apparent lack of souls is due to the fact that illithids don't want to give themselves to any of the planes, thus cloaking their souls from other creatures in order to ensure they control where that soul ends up. The Illithids do operate on the idea of uniting their minds, so their souls being linked to ensure that none of their secrets fall into the hands of gods, devils, or demons would make sense.
