Should not ride with highbeams on, it does not improve your visibility - apart from annoying the hell out of drivers any hope of them being able to determine your position/rate of approach in the mirror is lost. Also it'd make for a boring ticket if stopped.

I had a K1200S.....it pushes forever and cornering is a razor on the asphalt....not the best ofn the short cornering but a great motorbike!

oncoming cars flashing their lights generally means there is a cop ahead for you to be careful of. OR.. there is something in the road ahead for you.. or your headlight is not on when it’s getting dark.. I have had four deer collisions, my wife has had three, and my two sons have each had one. two of my collisions with deer happened while I was on my motorcycles. One of them was on my Honda pacific coast commuter at 7 o’clock in the morning. The second Deere collision happened on my BMW K 1200 LT, a 900 pound motorcycle, at 70 miles an hour.. I was traveling south on a four-lane road just past sunset by about 15 minutes.. it was in a rural area with a golf course on my left, and a cornfield on my right.. I was approaching a traffic light that had just turned yellow. So I rolled on the throttle to beat the red light, because there was no one around anywhere. This is a rural place like Cary Grant’s seen at that intersection in a cornfield in North by Northwest… so I got through the light, at approximately 70 miles an hour, because I was doing 60 before I got the yellow light.. in an instant, there was an impact that sounded like a paper bag filled with fragile plastic pieces that was blown up, and smashed by my hand to pop the bag. Hundreds of little cracking sounds all at once. This was a fairly large deer. It crushed my fairing stay, my headlight area, almost all the way back to the steering stem.. I was very lucky the deer did not get tangled up with my front wheel, or come over my windshield. I knew about two seconds after the impact what happened, and I just coasted to a stop in the near dark… The Deers leg whipped my right leg on the outside of the calf. I still have the mark. But other than that, I was lucky, no skill involved, it was just luck that I did not go down or panic or freeze.. deer are not standing in the middle of the road, giving you a choice, whether or not to go around them on the left or the right, what happens is, they run into you. The deer took off my front fender, crushed the forward part of my faring, the faring stay, both mirrors popped off and went straight to China because I never saw them again.. 2010 prices, $5500 damage. The mirrors alone were $492 each… I let the insurance company fix my BMW. But I fixed my Honda pacific coast because I did not keep full coverage insurance on that machine. Thank goodness for used parts availability on eBay. My Pacific coast cost me only about $800 to repair… I didn’t go down on the Pacific coast either with that deer collision at 35 miles an hour. The deer just came from my left and was going across my path, and I just hit him in the hip as he was crossing my front wheel. He took off my front fender, and the right side of my fairing, bent my fairing stay.. Here where I live in Pennsylvania, I looked into the statistics with deer collisions. Every year, every driver in Pennsylvania has a 1 in 59 chance of hitting a deer. after those collisions, I put deer, whistles or deer alarms on my motorcycles and my pick up truck. I was at my local post office, one day on my motorcycle, and a postal worker, driving a van, saw the alarms on my motorcycle, and had a chuckle and said those things don’t work buddy. So I strolled over to him and said, how do you know that. He said, he hit 16 deer driving the postal truck. He goes from post office to post office, picking up and dropping off mail at each post office on a route between Pittsburgh, and Saint Marys, Pennsylvania every late afternoon into the evening and night.. that is pretty rural country. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if there are more deer in some of those counties than people… add postal worker told me that he tried every type of deer whistle deer alarm deer alert, ones that are activated by the window loan, and other ones that emit a high frequency tone that the deer can hear. He said that he thinks that those devices can be heard by the deer, but the deer panic at times, and they will run from the middle of a field on his left, and they’ll run right across the road to go in a direction where they feel safer. He believes that those deer alerts can actually cause more collisions than they prevent, because when the deer are startled, they will run to where they feel safe, and many times, that can be right across your path.. he said he has the record for the highest number of collisions with deer in the entire state. 16 so far… Dusk and dawn are the most dangerous times. Dear tend to be off the roads may be under our tree somewhere, taking a nap in the middle of the afternoon. but they do start to make their rounds at dusk. And especially in late October through December during rutting season, the deer are like zombies. I have seen them run right through four lanes of traffic as though they couldn’t see the traffic on my way to work one morning. A buck with a pretty big rack. .. he was staring at something and he was running through a field on my right while I was waiting at a red light. And he ran right across four lanes of rush-hour traffic without getting nailed… I had two acquaintances that were killed while riding their motorcycles by deer. One of them was a writer for motorcycle consumer news from Pittsburgh. Larry Grodsky. He was killed in Texas by a deer… A coworker of mine. They found him and his girlfriend dead, while he was riding his motorcycle with her on the back. Nobody saw the accident, but there was deer hair in bedded in parts of the front of the fairing and headlight and front fender.. that one really went through the entire company of about 1600 people I work for. A utility company. He was, I know everybody always says this, but, he was one of those guys that everybody liked, always smiling. He had two daughters they were each about four years old at the time, to two different mothers, and the girls were born one month apart. He was dating both women.. when he found out, they were both going to have a baby, he couldn’t marry either one of them and spiked the other one. He loved those little girls, he would take them lots of places together, dressed exactly the same, like they were twins, and he would have one under each arm, carrying them with big smiles on his face when he would show up with them. that was a tragedy that he was killed by a deer, and one of the mothers was killed..
