    I have a 68 in my 07 3500, with a 6.7l, I am on my 4 th rebuild, I have not made 3000 miles out of a single one, all professional rebuild with the stage 3 capacity, and over 15 k into the transmission rebuild, I pull a trailer of only 12,000 loaded, and I am very disappointed with it, I would like to know what you are planning to do to eliminate this problem? I have been looking at the Alison transmission, what is your thoughts?

    Hi Aaron, you sound like you're in East TX. If so, would you be able to help me identify if I need a complete rebuild or if I just need the basic kit? I'd appreciate it!

    GPZ clutches have a known failure where they actually crush losing tolerances, they are currently working with many builders to fix it. Currently most top builders use borg clutches

    6400 miles on a 21’ Cummins with a 68rfe…, on a trip with my family in bfe, and egr code p0402 and now very hard shift from 1st to 2nd. I’m absolutely disgusted and hope the dealer makes it right. I was just about to delete too…glad I waited!

    You can get the 68 to do better with those same clutches. There are some tricks that 99.9% of builders don’t know, but the GM performance, Allison etc engineers that designed these things know about. Will warp your perception of what’s possible.

    No brand built auto transmission is going to hold 750whp for 100k miles.. Completely unrealistic!! Especially when auto transmissions are FULL of wearable items.. 40k miles on a built trans is actually very decent considering your power number!! A harder material or "more aggressive" clutch material will wear out much fastest as they are not designed to slip as much as a softer clutch material! Revmax actually recommend the 700 for longevity over the 850 for these reasons! All in all informative video thank you for your time!!

    • @th600mike3
      @th600mike3 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually the friction material harness just changes the engagement feel. It doesn't dictate how long it will last etc. The materials inside it determine how much heat/slip/friction at every point will make. And there are clutch materials that will do all that. But they're not made by Raybestos, and not available from Alto. Some of the Borg materials are truly ridiculous with how good they are. The HEG Allison style clutch, its a grey graphitic, does awesome for slip, smooth shift, and durability. Not the most grip ever. But will eat the steel up before it burns. That's probably the best all around material made by alto. Their g3 is ok. Carbonite is also real good. Graphitic by Raybestos is the ultimate they have for durability and grip. Really probably the gnarliest material out there. But shifts won't be smooth at all. Will last and last and last. Take whatever heat you give it too. Won't destroy the steel. But it's going to be one choppy shift.

    Who's trans tuning were you using, it plays a big part in if your built trans lives or not?

    • @aaroncrow7411
      @aaroncrow7411 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      TCM was purchased directly from Revmax.

      @@aaroncrow7411 Right, those trucks have a separate TCM & ECM unlike the newer models which use a combined PCM. If I'm not mistaken the RevMax TCM is essentially factory tuning (from 07.3-09) with increased line pressure. That means the shift points, TC lockup, etc will be unchanged. Since then a lot of progress has been made with transmission tuning. Even current factor trans tuning is leaps and bounds better than what was offered back then. That aside, the 68rfe has overlapping shifts from 3-4 so there's going to be unavoidable clutch wear. Depending on how much power the truck makes, how often shifts are happening under full power, what material the clutches are made of, and a few other variables, will all influence how long the trans will last. There's no real way around this and btw, RevMax is essentially the best in the 68rfe market. Idk what you think would be a better option, but I'd be interesting in hearing it.

      @@monsterram6617 The revmax tcm does more than just line pressure. A while ago I compared it to a stock file with hp tuners. I'm no tuner, and I don't remember exactly what is changed. I agree the newer trucks are much better than the older trucks. I feel like it is safe to say that the same transmission will last longer in a 4th gen than a 3rd simply because the computer controls everything so much better. That is not really something I had considered at the time of making this video. It's also safe to say that trans tuning for 3rd gens won't ever get any better. It is a dead platform, and the capability of the tcm is limited.
