I'd heard of the Train for Life mission, I always thought the 20s were hauled dead the whole of the way.. Cool footage of them actually running in Europe! And it only took 4 minutes for locals to complain about the noise they made....
Whilst BR was bad, its undeniable that privatisation was the worst decision that could've gone through. BR definitely needed a management change but it also needed funding. If we kept our railways nationalised, we'd have railways that are on par if not better than the Czech Republic or poland, two nations who's railways saw rapid modernisation and improvements in less than 15 years, from rolling stock to railway lines. People before profits. A service provides, not takes.
I’m prepared to bet ANYONE reading this, that at some point, someone said ‘lessons will be learned”……..
Niger and Nigeria aren’t the same country. That’s Nigeria’s flag and Lagos is in Nigeria
Thanks for the video. Can't help but think that the XPT would be a better offering for Mexico becuase it was designed for the heat & dust of Australia (the Class 43 derived power cars having twice the cooling capacity of a standard Class 43). The XPT carriages (based on a Budd design) are also more at home in the heat with more powerful AC & reflective double glazed windows to reflect the Sun's rays. Modern vacuum toilets from day one and, I believe, improved frontal collision protection (horizontal bars at low level under the spoiler, not better at higher level). Some may consider a slight disadvantage .... the XPT has Paxman VP185 engines rather than MTU (albeit more vocal thanks to a different Silencer system).
I didn’t realise that British rails were compatible with Europe’s. I always were under the impression Britain had narrow guage and Europe a wider one.😊
Britain came first with standard gauge, and were followed by Europe, except for Spain, which has wide gauge.
Fascinating indeed. Thanks for posting.
This has to be the most British event in Biritish history
Poor poor Candians.
Such a shame that more of them weren’t built to replace the slam door trains.
He was litteraly center metres from the train I don't get why some people just think they need to stand that close to the edge of the platform
Random question for a story, could you do about the Network Rail trains about what they do around the train lines? 🤔
ROSCOs are an issue, but it's not because they're private companies, but rather, how the UK went about in privatizing British Rail. The operating structure makes no sense at all. Although I'm not a fan of nationalization, GBR needs to nationalize every aspect of British railroads, from Network Rail, to the TOCs, and especially the ROSCOs. There's no reason for a "railroad" to own the infrastructure and make the timetables, but not own their own trains.
Great doc,I was on the end of the phone, doing the overtime, loved my time at CX
They're leaches and they've got to go
It sounds like simple maths tbh. The operating costs the ROSCOs have exist with or without them because somebody's got to manage the trains, so one would wonder how anybody could think slapping a profit margin on that would in any way turn out to be cheaper than having to deal solely with operating costs. Plus dividends to shareholders? Ew! Imagine those 2 billion had been reinvested instead of disappearing into overseas pockets somewhere.
R.I.P Class 165
I thought a worker was killed in this
As a former BR and current railway employee, the wheel is about to turn full circle again with GBR to form in the next few years, privatisation has been an expensive folly that is now realised and government ownership once again beckons.
Great to hear you talking in inches and yards. A true English man!
This is a great documentary, and really gives an insight into the difficulties of operating a railway. I started on the railway in 1994, and many of the issues still apply today. Non railway people don’t understand how demanding the hours are (up at 02.00 for a 05.00 start time for a 07.10 departure) no certainty about when you finish, every day (including bank holidays) is a working day, the only two days you are guaranteed off are Christmas Day and Boxing Day, but remember you can’t drink 12 hours before starting so no drinking on the evening if you’re starting at 04.00 . People are then mystified when the railway struggles to recruit and retain staff. Not to mention that we are all drug tested!
Some locals protested because they didn't want any affordable store to be built. Have to keep the proles out of course. Turned out that this just one of Tesco's online forays. :)
unexpected item in tunnel area.
Same trains, Same length of trains, Same Seating Capacity, Same Timetable, the only difference is that with an INEPT, Irresponsible, Inexperienced, Incompetent LABOUR Government, is that only the Paintwork & Logos will change and you the Taxpayer will be Paying for it.🤖😈
I live here and use this train line frequently, this was covered up to the local community for years even though we all had seen it happen
"clean up in isle 4!"
Who brought the Class 165 onto Tesco 😭
rich of canadians to reject the mighty pacer after bombardier essentially ruined trains
I’ve been saving my Tesco club card points religiously for three years. Now I’ve nearly got enough to get a single train ticket to the next village (if I book it online three months in advance, obviously)
I’ve heard of Tesco express but this is ridiculous
A train just hit Tesco. Asda. No, Tesco
they also serve in australia as XPTs!
The driver needed a meal deal
Oh My God! That Was Wired
Just a reshuffle I'm afraid. A fudge in all but name.
Great video. I subscribed. 👍
It's not just Canada. KTM Railways of Malaysia bought a metre-gauge version for their railways back in 1980's as well for testing too. Apparently it didn't last long though and by the mid-1990's it was most likely cut up for scrap after sitting unused for ages.
Lol so they only hauled it about halfway
Wish we still had them! Some are being preserved in the UK surely
Big Mistake given the Mexicans our Ex HSTs if this is how they treat them .
Can’t wait for the British Rail Sandwiches to return🤮
Nigeria- not niger
remember British Railways and how well that went.
The privatized railway network takes more from the government in subsidy than BR ever did
That train is so noisy whenever it comes past and I am on the platform
Don't forget that Australia also built hst trains under licence in the 1980s called the xt125 😊😊
Great to see they are not being scrapped and used elsewhere where. I recall seeing a video of a 1st gen Eurostar train being left to rot before it was scrapped - tragic!
