DIY Sim Rig Roof Enclosure - 3d Printed Hardware - Budget Sim Racing Build
I've been building the most ridiculous enclosure for a budget sim rig and I've had a lot of people ask questions about it. So here I am trying my best to show you how it works, what it is and what you can do to make your own.

Nice clean build 👍. I have had a 'booth' for a couple of years also and added black fibre panels from the bottom of the monitors to the ground, which really helps, with immersion especially as I have a motion rig.
Yeh this is pretty sick. I went the vr route for the same "isolation" reasons. Plus I do flight stuff which is cool with vr for the head tracking.
Yeah for flight VR is unbeatable. Head/eye Tracking on monitors sucks 🤢
@iansmashracing truuuue but feeling around in the dark for controls is bootybuttcheeks.... I like the idea of having spatial awareness.
i think this is one of best solution i´ve seen so far. if not even the best. if u dont want to build such a fancy cabin with roll cage, fire extuigisher and that sort of stuff. I think this is the way to go
@@Crustinho99 thank you! 🙏 That was exactly my intention. I like driving lots of different cars but focus on formula/open wheel. Having a visually specific cockpit would be so goofy driving in a mismatched car. I wanted to build something kind of universal that felt like a “sim racing cockpit” so it would work for everything more or less
Great project it looks awesome. I have a sim rig with roof myself and dynamic lights and one thing I had to solve was the reflections on the screens that I saw you have. I used dark paper to stop the light. Good luck with your rig, and thanks for the video!
Thanks for the tip! I made some 3D printed shields that slot onto the bezel. But I think I need to extend them longer to completely kill the glare
NICE build man i just started to some youtube and building on my rig ! Just order wind sim now :D thats the next step then igot the mounts for tripple 3x32" :)
Nice! Good luck on the build!
How much did that cost? Thinking about my next project
@@GinaDeWitt-o3d for the roof? for me maybe like $50? But I had the extrusions and some other stuff already. All in, including the lights, fans, cost of 3D prints, buying extrusions, foam, vinyl, acrylic piece. Maybe $100-150?
Freakin awesome dude!! For the love of Sim racing 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
@@kyleshepherdmusic yessir!
Awesome rig, I have the same wheel and pedals but you put it together nicely in this rig
Thanks! I definitely put some effort into it!
carbon fibahhh
If you still want to upgrade you could get those ambilights to give it more ambience
So the lights in the roof are actually connected to the sim via Simhub They’re from a brand called Govee and they’re super affordable!
Nice, I’m working on something similar atm, trying to automate it too. Reminds me of watching power rangers as a kid every time I get in 😂
@@electivire1001 holy shit thats awesome
Awesome simple build, ur funny, subbed
@@kevinkev1530 thx bro I try 😅
Thank. Just gave me what I needed to take the next step while am in a rebuild
Pimax Crystal Light + VR = worlds better immersion (I used to run triples too}. The difference is you're watching the game, while in VR you're IN the game, not watching
Yeah I'll never go back to screens after VR.
As much as it feels cool to use VR, I just can’t handle the motion sickness on long sessions. I’ve used a few high end sets (varjo was prob the best I’ve tried) I like to drive for a few hours at a time so i feel like triples just works better for what I want to do. IMO there’s no wrong way to do it though.
This will be my next sim racing project. Thank you so much!!!
Mean whack off sessions in there huh? Lmao jk.. jokes aside. That’s pretty sweet… ever thought about getting asus bezel free kit?
😂😂😂 Bezel free setup is on the list but I’m determined to diy it instead of paying Asus $185 for some strips of plastic and throwing away the rest
Like what I see. Subbed

Ooh thats dope!
Thanks! 🙏
Nice! Thanks for sharing. My rig is forever evolving and the roof is one of my bugbears that I really want to improve. This looks amazing!
Very Very Cool
What’s the front vent above you? I saw the fans but the duct looked to run behind to the pc maybe ? Curious what it’s for.
@@tnev22 lol so it’s kind of hard to explain A while ago I made this huge Dyson style fan to go on my pc and boost the exhaust fan on it (kind of just a junk science experiment) But it actually worked. So I didn’t take it off even though it was kind of impractical. So then I decided to pipe in a duct on the other end of the blower so pull hot air from the cockpit (since it’s blade less the air comes out after the PC exhaust, so it technically doesn’t matter what temp the air is coming in…I guess hotter is better?) So depending on your perspective. It’s either an extra heat exhaust vent. Or the intake to my PCs electric supercharger 😂 I should make a video about it but it’s really stupid for how big and complicated it is. I get 1 degree or so of cooling benefit and the cockpit has more heat vented out 🤷♂️
@ sounds interesting. At first I thought it was a dump for the pc exhaust which made me scratch my head lol. Supercharger inlet sounds a lot better tho. Love little projects that get way more attention than they deserve. Keep creating.
Impressive!
amazing sir
Hello good job with the roof! What size and resolution monitors are you using?

I'm wondering why doesn't a company make one of these ?? that's a great invention
@@ali09gaming58 I think it would be hard to make it compatible with lots of setups and also look good tbh Too expensive to manufacture ton of different sizes/shapes
Thats an awesome build, was gonna say about carbon dioxide build up then i saw the fans
One word…… FUUUUUUUUUUUUDGE 😮
Do you have an old computer screen? U can use the light scattering layer in the screen to remove the bezels. Google DIY bezel free
don't use my video like it's fucking instructions 😂😂😂😂😂😂
That looks great. Would be cool if some company that does motion rigs hooked you up so you could build a V3
Yeah definitely!
Nice job bro. Thanks for sharing!
Nice video and a nice setup! You can put the Lovely Dashboard on the screen in front of you as a Windowed mode. All the best to you!
Bad ass your getting some traction!
This is a really cool idea! Thanks for posting this. What size and resolution are the monitors?
@@Advisory_Vessel 31.5” 1440p from BenQs Mobiuz line
@@iansmashracing That's nice. Keep up the great content!
From the build, to the video itself; this is one of the best over all sim racing videos I’ve seen
@@davidlee-rc6gr Hell yeah thank you bro 🤟
This wasn't helpful for me at all. (But I use VR) I like the concept though and if I ever return to triples, I will likely use a few ideas here. I imagine this really improves the audio as well.
The roof was dope as hell, I've noticed that you've added fans for ventilation, and i thought it would make for great wind simulation thingy ( idk what they're called ) You have it installed, so why not improve the immersive feeling.
@@Alyslay_jc I’ve thought about it but tbh I just haven’t gotten around to it. Originally I bought a pack of cheap fans not knowing the difference between PWM and non. So these don’t actually work for wind sim. So it’s really just about buying a new set of fans and working it out. Generally though, I can’t imagine the wind sim will give me much performance-wise so constant airflow is fine with me. At the end of the day I really am on a budget so I guess you could say I’m just saving up ✌️
Makes it so much more real...waving at the guy you hit. ;-)
Awesome build, if I ever get the time/money to do a full rig something similar is definitely added to the list. If I could give one piece of constructive criticism though, when you're filming something mostly black in a dark room, the compression artifacts from TH-cam make it look like I'm looking at JPEG artifacts, grab some cheap lights and point them at the roof or wall to get some soft ambient lighting
Yeah I’m still working out the process. The worst part is I have more lights and a much better camera than what I used 😅 I was just hoping to make it easier on myself. Noted for the next one though!
@iansmashracing all good man, aside from that it's a good video 😁 keep it up
This is really nice! Good work on the rig. I am building my own, and I love that you went full-on isolation there. The pod with a hatch, lights, fans, etc. is really great. Also, what is that sim that you're running at the end? I love that the center support of the halo is a bit transparent. Because we have two eyes, we can actually see right past it, and this is the most realistic approach to depicting the halo that I have ever seen.
@@numbr17 thanks! Yeah I really went for it. Night races during the day is how I ended up with the curtains. Too much glare from windows in the house! The sim at the end is iracing. My favorite for sure. It’s a little pricey compared to the others but it’s awesome.
great work man
@@aviation8871 ✌️✌️ thanks!
What lighting did you use for this and was the glare visible to you in sim or was it just because of the camera on your glasses. Love it man!. Saw your post on r/Simracing
@@jonathanmc9321 govee h5650 lights. They have a bunch that work with simhub but they must be “dreamview” compatible. There is some glare but not nearly as bad as it looks in the video. I’m using a GoPro on “superview” to get as much cockpit in frame as possible and it makes the reflections/glare look crazy. I made some small “blockers” to cut the glare down and they help, but they need to be a little longer to completely fix the issue. Hoping to get to it in the next couple of weeks
@@iansmashracing thanks for the information! I have a complete rig similar to what you have, but no roof. I was thinking of putting some sort of small black light or ambient color to light up the area around my wheel and controls. Your work has certainly motivated me to reach higher.
I’m thinking about adding a dim orange light to mine to help when it’s particularly dark (like when I’m on my black background desktop and simhub doesn’t light up the govee bars at all). I

I use a full face helmet and a gripper mount from amazon. Mount to mouth area and raise it from there. Yours looks better then mine imo and I think yours will work on a motion rig also. Pretty cool man!
@@MicahAlvarezRacing yeah I can honestly jump around and it doesn’t really shake Helmet I could imagine might bobble some on big bumps. I’ve been daydreaming about building a “sim” helmet with an integrated cam behind the visor and some fans and stuff but I can’t decide if it’s a good idea or a waste of money 😂 I’m not racing irl so I don’t have/need a helmet otherwise
I got a fan enclosure for my GoPro. It's big makes it very hard to do stuff with. I will send you some links, could give you some ideas. I don't race irl. But I think I am getting a open face racing helmet to see what I can make with it. But everything is so expensive and the projects are never ending 😂.

I've been looking for a website with good prices like that! How long do they take to ship on average? Good vid, good info
@@GarageRCR it’s pretty quick but depends on where it comes from. They have an American warehouse and European ones w different inventory. My order shipped from Germany but it only took like a week or so.

@@ethandeel1077 for what it is, including the PC and everything, it’s pretty reasonable. It could definitely be a lot more expensive 🤷♂️
